Appeals Board Approves New House on Otter Creek Drive Lot
Bar Harbor Historical Society Party on the Piazza a $37k Success; Recent Real Estate Transfers
BAR HARBOR—The Bar Harbor Appeals Board heard the appeal of Caresse Hanson who has a property at 155 Otter Creek Drive. Hanson had hoped to replace two existing nonconforming structures by creating another structure in a different location on the lot.
The lot is in the Otter Creek zoning district. Her request was presented by Nicholas Wood of Acadia Modular Housing. Hanson was ill. No members of the public attended.
Lucinda Baliss’s letter in support of the demolition of the buildings and creation of the new home was read into the record by Chair Ellen Dohman.
Staff Planner Cali Martinez provided the board with a memo stating the staff’s opinion and listed findings the Appeals Board needed to determine. It also included an analysis of the situation.
The request was unanimously approved.
“It’s going to be a great house,” Wood said.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Ellen Dohmen as Chair, Anna Durand as vice chair, and Robert Webber as secretary. They were voted in as a slate, not as a rollcall vote. There were no other nominations. Member Cara Ryan attended in person. Member Heather Peterson attended via Zoom.
BAR HARBOR HISTORICAL SOCIETY’S PARTY ON THE PIAZZA
BAR HARBOR—The Bar Harbor Historical Society’s Party on the Piazza Saturday hosted 107 people. Over 40 businesses donated to the silent auction and the society raised $37,000. Last year’s event raised $30,000.
“This allowed us to match a $10,000 grant from the 1772 Foundation, which allowed us to repair and replace gutters for La Rochelle and install snowguards that will protect the historic windows in the winter,” said Executive Director Erin Cough. “The money raised, beyond for the gutters, will also help preserve the items in the archives.”
“We are thrilled by the support and how many people attended,” Cough said.
The BHHS welcomes its current members and interested community members to its annual meeting at La Rochelle on October 4th, at 5 PM.
The annual meeting will feature a presentation Board President Dickie Cough, on the History of Postcards in Bar Harbor!
