Are You Ready For Some Football? Youth Jamboree is This Saturday
Harding Memorial Golf Tournament Raises $37,690
BAR HARBOR—Are you ready for some football? This weekend has you covered with three games on Friday and Saturday. The MDI High School Trojans start things off Friday when the team hosts Spruce Mountain. It’s the last regular-season home game.
This Saturday, October 7, any kids in grades 1-7 and their adults, are invited to attend Acadian Youth Sports (AYS) “Next Year Jamboree.” The jamboree is a football game night for the two teams (MDI 2-4 and MDI 5-6) and they’ll be playing at the Mount Desert Island High School beginning at 5:30.
“Fall equals football!” AYS Coach Eben Salvatore said. “Whether it's the Patriots, the Black Bears, or the Trojans, anyone that is a fan of the sport always looks forward to the start of the season. It's really special to go out to the high school and root for the Trojans, especially when some of the players are the kids of my team mates."
For kids and parents and fans on Mount Desert Island, football plays have been filling up their Friday nights and weekends.
Anyone is invited to attend the Saturday night event, especially kids in grades 1-7 who might want to participate next year.
"Football is fun for the kids at any level,” Salvatore said. “Kids are full of energy and getting them out on the field where then can really let loose is great for them. On every play there is a responsibility for every position, so they quickly learn the importance of doing their job and working as a team. A few of our 2-4 boys started last season but most of our team is playing for the first time. They have worked hard at learning the game and it's starting to really pay off."
Acadian Youth Sports has been putting in hours and years into making sure that there is a football program for kids along with the basketball, baseball, and cheering programs it supports.
"This community is really lucky to have something like AYS available for our kids. So many hardworking volunteers put in countless hours to give our local youth such a rewarding opportunity," Salvatore said.
"When I was a kid growing up on MDI football wasn't an option until high school. Many of the teams we played had developmental programs and got a bit of a head start. It's great to see how much the MDI program benefits from the early development that AYS provides," Salvatore said.
The MDI High School Football team has a 4-1 record thanks to a 38-0 win over Lake Region at Lake Region last Friday. Lake Region’s record is now 0-5.
