Bar Harbor Firefighter Honored in Ellsworth For Helping to Save Bub Anderson's Life
Doggy Joy Ride Draws Concern
HANCOCK COUNTY—A Bar Harbor firefighter was one of seven people honored by the Ellsworth City Council award. Brandon Eugley received the Civilian Life Saving Award for outstanding performance and the saving of a human life on May 20, 2024.
That life was Richard “Bub” Anderson’s. He’d been involved in an accident on Kingsland Crossing in Ellsworth. When Ellsworth police arrived, Deputy Chief Troy Bires said, they broke a rear side window to gain access to the vehicle because Anderson did not have a pulse.
Officer Nick Bagley received a significant cut to his hand by breaking the window, but continued to assist. Corporal Kelvin Mote began compressions and CPR. Eugley, a firefighter and EMT in both Hancock and Bar Harbor, arrived and assisted with chest compressions.
Bub Anderson survived and he continues to recover.
They “helped save the life of Richard ‘Bub’ Anderson that day,” Ellsworth Deputy Police Chief Troy Bires said.
Anderson stood to shake each man’s hand and hug them after the ceremony.
A social media post by the Bar Harbor Fire Department on Tuesday read, “You being in the right place, at the right time, your willingness to step in and to help out is not a surprise to anyone at Bar Harbor Fire Department.”
Eugley is a firefighter and EMT. He has worked in Hancock since 2016 and works in Bar Harbor. He’s also a part-time dispatcher for Hancock County.
On July 8, Officer Russell received a report of an individual with a dog riding on a moped in Southwest Harbor. The complainant was worried about the canine’s safety. No further information or disposition was given.
Adam Walton, a Bar Harbor man, thought to be missing was located by the Bar Harbor/ Mount Desert Police Department with help from the public.
According to a release from the Bar Harbor Police Department, “After speaking with his family, we are confident that Mr. Walton is safe and no longer warrants being listed as a missing person. The Bar Harbor Mount Desert Police Department would like to thank the public for all of the social media shares, updates, tips, leads, and general looking out for Mr. Walton. Your eyes are, most times, places where ours cannot be and in this case, helped us locate Mr. Walton.”

Officer Nathan Formby arrested Jenna Shea, 26, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, for alleged operating under the influence following a traffic stop in Mount Desert.
An officer responded to Kennebec Street in Bar Harbor for a parking complaint, located the owner, and had the vehicle moved.
Officer Ted Cake handled a complaint of a disorderly man in Mount Desert. Officer Cake met with the man who was having mental health issues and spoke with him for a while and made him aware of the complaint. The man apologized for his behavior.

An officer responded to a 911 call regarding motor vehicle operation on Eden Street in Bar Harbor, located the vehicle, and spoke with the driver about his driving behavior.
The Bar Harbor Police Department received a call about a bag that had been left on a bench in Agamont Park in Bar Harbor. Officer T. Cake checked the bag and found that it contained sunscreen and bug spray.
Mental Health Liaison Melissa Tozier met with someone in Bar Harbor at that person’s request.
Sgt. Jerrod Hardy responded to a complaint of six suspicious people outside of a Bar Harbor business. Upon his arrival, Sgt. Hardy could not locate any people or anything out of the ordinary.
Officer Liam Harrington took a report of suspicious activity in Seal Harbor. No further information or disposition was given.
Officer Elias Burne responded to assist a couple of juveniles who needed a ride in Bar Harbor, but they were no longer in need of assistance when he arrived.
After receiving a trespassing complaint in Bar Harbor, Officer Formby located the suspect, warned them for trespassing and disorderly conduct, and moved them along.

Officer Zack Kline received a report that the traffic light at the intersection of Mount Desert Street and Eden Street in Bar Harbor was not working. Officer Kline responded and found the light to be working.
A Bar Harbor business called the Bar Harbor Police Department to report a strange letter that the business had received. The complaint was documented.
Officer Kline performed a requested well-being check on a Bar Harbor resident who was fine and denied any medical assistance.
After a report of a man whose vehicle had broken down near the Route 3 and Norway Drive intersection in Bar Harbor, Officer T. Cake patrolled the area, located the vehicle, which was out of the roadway, but could not locate the owner.
MHL Tozier spoke with someone in Bar Harbor about ongoing distressing life circumstances.
Thomas Howell, 22, of Danbury, Connecticut, was driving a 2007 Ford Econoline van southbound on Route 102 in Mount Desert. Gerard Miller, 68, of Mount Desert, was driving a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta northbound on Route 102. Howell, allegedly, made a left-hand turn in front of Miller, trying to get onto Hall Quarry Road. Miller’s vehicle struck Howell’s vehicle. There was no reported personal injury and both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Officer Caleb Mora warned a group of juveniles for reckless driving and tampering with town property in Bar Harbor.
Officer Kaleb Payson is investigating a report of harassment in Mount Desert.
Sgt. Chris Dickens and Sgt. Hardy responded to a complaint of two suspicious men walking on the Pretty Marsh Road in Mount Desert. It was determined that the two men were just taking an after-dinner walk.

Officer Judson Cake arrested Anthony Galarza, 24, of South Portland, for alleged operating under the influence in Bar Harbor. Officer Cake was assisted by a translator.
Officer Kline spoke with a Bar Harbor resident about the resident’s neighbor. No police action was taken.
Someone called the Bar Harbor Police Department regarding horses in the roadway. The horses were returned home.
Sgt. Sundberg was given some information by a Bar Harbor resident.
Sgt. Sundberg took a report of possible illegal clamming in Bar Harbor. The suspected illegal clammers were located, and it was determined that they were not doing anything wrong.
Officer Mora responded to a motor vehicle complaint in Bar Harbor but could not locate the suspect vehicle.
Officer Kline took a report of an RV that was left running on West Street in Bar Harbor and upon response found that it was the RV’s generator running. Officer Kline could not locate the owners of the RV and left a business card on the vehicle asking them to turn off their generator.
Sgt. Sundberg performed a traffic stop on a motorcycle that had no registration plate and was able to determine that it was a newly purchased motorcycle and the temporary paper tag had blown off.

A man called the Mount Desert Police Department to report that his scooter had broken down in Mount Desert.
A man called the Bar Harbor Police Department to report that his vehicle had been stolen from a Bar Harbor hotel parking lot. It was quickly determined that a family member had taken his vehicle and it was a matter of poor communication.
Officer Stanwood issued a no trespass warning to a person who had been fired from a Bar Harbor business.
Officer Stanwood assisted the Bar Harbor Fire Department on a fire response call at a Bar Harbor business.
Officer Stanwood responded to a parking complaint at Albert Meadow in Bar Harbor but the offending vehicle was gone upon his arrival.

Officer Russell spoke on the phone with someone from Tremont who was looking for information on behalf of a third party. Officer Russell spoke with the individual who said that they would pass the information on to the third party.

Officer James Kamorski responded to Tremont for a complaint regarding the complainant’s neighbor’s contractor leaving debris and construction equipment on the complainant’s property. Officer Kamorski spoke with the contractor and resolved the issue.
A Cranberry island resident spoke with Officer Kamorski and said that they were getting harassed on Cranberry Island and now were getting harassed in Southwest Harbor. Officer Kamorksi served the harassment suspect with a cease harassment warning later in the day.
Officer Kamorski spoke with a person at a Southwest Harbor business who complained about being harassed via text messages. Officer Kamorski documented the harassing text messages and learned that the complainant is from North Carolina. Officer Kamorski advised the complainant to contact their local police department when they get back home and told them that he would do what he could from here.
Officer Kamorski responded to a motor vehicle complaint regarding a vehicle driving without its headlights on in Southwest Harbor but could not locate the vehicle.

Officer Kamorski handled a call involving a truck that had lost one of its front wheels in Southwest Harbor. Officer Kamorski responded and stayed on the scene until a tow truck could get there and remove the truck.

Officer Russell responded to a complaint of a vehicle parked on the road in Southwest Harbor in such a way as to make it hard for traffic to get by. Officer Russell was able to resolve the issue.
Officer Russell took a complaint of someone camping on the property that the complainant takes care of in Tremont, responded to the location, and spoke with the camper about their options.
Officer Russell responded to a complaint of two neighbors having a disagreement in Southwest Harbor and spoke with both involved parties.

Officer Kamorski is investigating a report of a possible threat in Southwest Harbor.
Officer Kamorski responded to a burglar alarm in Southwest Harbor but was told that it was a false alarm by the property owner prior to his arrival.
Officer Kamorski investigated a report of a dog that had bitten a juvenile at a campground in Southwest Harbor.
After receiving a complaint of people setting off fireworks in Tremont, Officer Kamorski responded, spoke with the offending people, and resolved the issue.
Officer Kamorski performed an overnight security check of the craft fair tents for the Harbor House Flamingo Festival in Southwest Harbor.

Maine Drug Enforcement Arrests Three in Lewiston
LEWISTON—The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Lewiston Police Department announce the arrest of three people for aggravated trafficking in fentanyl and endangering the welfare of a child in Lewiston. During the arrest a significant amount of fentanyl and a firearm was seized.
Arrested were:
Dylan Tessier 24, of Lewiston, for unlawful aggravated trafficking in schedule drugs, (fentanyl) class A.
Normand Tessier 63, of Lewiston, for unlawful aggravated trafficking in schedule W drugs (fentanyl) class A.
Tamesha Parker 31, of Lewiston, for endangering the welfare of a child, class D.
On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at approximately 7:00 a.m., agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s Western District Task Force and officers from the Lewiston Police Department served a search warrant at 229 Blake Street, Apartment 1 in Lewiston. The search warrant was the result of a month-long investigation into the illegal distribution of fentanyl and methamphetamine from the apartment. Agents and officers located Dylan and Normand Tessier, as well as Parker in the apartment, all were taken into custody without incident. A 9-year-old child was also located in the apartment and was subsequently released to a family member not associated with the Blake Street apartment.
As a result of the search warrant approximately 80 grams of fentanyl packaged for resale and an AK47 semi-automatic rifle was seized as well as $ 2,500 in suspected drug proceeds.
The approximate street value of the seized fentanyl is $10,000.
Dylan and Normand Tessier and Parker were transported to the Androscoggin County Jail. Bail for Dylan and Normand Tessier was set at $25,000 each and Parker’s bail was set at $250.
The state’s Department of Health and Human Services was contacted, and a referral was made regarding safety concerns for the 9-year-old child.
Proactive enforcement efforts like this investigation will continue throughout the City of Lewiston and the State of Maine. Anyone who has information regarding drug trafficking is encouraged to contact MDEA or the Lewiston Police Department, or a law enforcement agency in your community.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Maine State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Hollis
HOLLIS—On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Troopers with Maine State Police’s Southern Field Troop responded to a report of a fatal crash in the area of 661 Cape Road in Hollis. The initial investigation indicates that a blue 2004 Dodge Ram operated by 60-year-old Sean Foley of Lyman was traveling southbound on Cape Road and a silver 2008 Subaru Impreza operated by 28-year-old Emily Rea of Saco was traveling northbound when Rea pulled into the oncoming lane to make a turn and was struck by Foley who could not stop his vehicle in time.
A male passenger in Rea’s vehicle, 51-year-old Troy Tanguay of Saco, was pronounced deceased on scene. Rea was transported to Maine Medical Center with minor injuries. Foley was not injured. The road was shut down to traffic for several hours. Hollis Fire and Rescue assisted on scene. The crash remains under investigation.
Attorney General’s Office Investigating Officer Involved Shooting in Old Orchard Beach
OLD ORCHARD BEACH—On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at approximately 6:38 p.m., a female called 911 (Department of Public Safety Augusta Regional Communications Center) to report that 38-year-old Christopher Harriman of Limerick, was making suicidal threats for the past hour and told them he was in a black Escalade at the Kennebunk rest area on the Maine Turnpike and he was armed with an AR style rifle. The female also told dispatchers that Mr. Harriman was threatening to cause harm to other subjects that she identified.
Maine State Troopers responded to the rest area, but Mr. Harriman was not there. The female provided additional location information on Mr. Harriman and law enforcement officers from Saco, Old Orchard Beach, and Maine State Police responded to the area. Mr. Harriman led them on a slow speed pursuit and evaded law enforcement temporarily. As he was failing to stop for law enforcement, he pointed the firearm out the window towards officers. He was located stopped in the Shop N’ Save parking lot in Old Orchard Beach. Law Enforcement tried to negotiate with Mr. Harriman and convince him to surrender as he stood outside his vehicle.
Mr. Harriman then reached in his vehicle, grabbed his rifle, and chambered a round. He was then shot and killed by Trooper Ryan Phillips.
Trooper Phillips has been placed on administrative leave, as is standard protocol when law enforcement officers are involved in the use of deadly force while the Office of the Attorney General investigates.
Maine State Police Investigating Stabbing in Limington
LIMINGTON—On Tuesday July 9, 2024, at approximately 9:10 a.m., the Maine State Police Southern Field Troop responded to a residence on July Street in Limington for an alleged assault. Troopers discovered the homeowner 91-year-old Ronald McCarthy suffering from injuries to his neck. McCarthy was transported by Limington EMS to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries.
The investigation revealed that McCarthy’s grandson, 34-year-old Daniel MacIsaac of Limington had stabbed McCarthy and fled from the scene. Troopers located MacIsaac and arrested him without incident. MacIsaac was transported to the York County Jail and charged with Attempted Murder and Violation of Conditions of Release. The investigation remains ongoing.
Maine State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Penobscot County
T3 INDIAN PURCHASE—On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at approximately 12:06, Bangor Regional Communications Center received an automatic crash notification in the area of 789 Poplar St. in T3 Indian Purchase. Responding units arrived on scene and observed a vehicle off the road and in the trees, and a deceased moose in the center of the roadway. The operator, 17-year Landon Gardner of Millinocket, was found deceased. This was a single vehicle crash with a single occupant. Maine State Police was assisted by East Millinocket PD.
Maine State Police Continues to Investigate Child Death on Vinalhaven
VINALHAVEN—On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at approximately 10:51 a.m., the parents of a 1-year-old boy called 911 to report their son was unresponsive. First responders arrived at the home on Vinalhaven and immediately began life saving efforts. The child was transported to Islands Community Medical Services on the Island and a short time later Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Central was notified the child was deceased.
The deceased was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy was performed on Thursday, July 11, 2024. Further testing needs to be completed before cause and manner of death can be determined. The parents of the child are cooperating with the investigation. No other information is available at this time.
Maine State Police Investigating Death in Knox County
CUSHING—The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Central is investigating a death in Cushing. Detectives and Evidence Response Technicians were at 834 River Road on Friday, July 12, 2024, and Saturday, July 13, 2024, conducting interviews and processing the scene. The deceased was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy will be performed to determine manner and cause of death and positively identify the victim.
At this point in the investigation a Cushing man has been arrested. 41-year-old Mark Gagne was arrested Friday, July 12, 2024, and charged with Hindering Apprehension and Abuse of a Corpse. Gagne was transported to the Knox County Jail and is expected to make his first court appearance Monday, July 15, 2024. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is assisting. The investigation is ongoing. Additional information will be released when it’s appropriate to do so.
Maine State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Limerick
LIMERICK—On Saturday July 13, 2024, at approximately 1:41 p.m., troopers from the Maine State Police Southern Field Troop responded to Rt. 5 in Limerick for a fatal motor vehicle crash. The initial investigation indicated that 30-year-old Christopher Mannion of Scarborough, was operating a 2007 Honda motorcycle southbound on Rt. 5 in Limerick when he lost control striking a guardrail. At this point speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash. If anyone witnessed the crash, please reach out to Trooper Travis Doughty at 207-624-7076. Maine State Police was assisted on scene by York County Sheriff’s Office, Limerick Fire Department, and Maine Department of Transportation.
Maine State Police Investigating Death in Lewiston
LEWISTON—The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit is assisting the Lewiston Police Department with a death investigation. On Sunday, July 14, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the Lewiston Police Department received a 911 call for shots fired at 77 Rideout Avenue. Upon their arrival they observed a deceased male in the road. The deceased was identified as 17-year-old Sahal Muridi of Lewiston. The deceased was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy will be performed to determine cause and manner of death.
Witnesses observed a silver Mercedes fleeing the scene as well as a black Dodge Challenger with a temporary Maine registration plate. The driver of the Mercedes has been identified and is cooperating with the investigators. The investigation is ongoing.
