BAR HARBOR—The papers are officially in and the names of those running for elected positions will be on the ballots now that the 5 p.m., April 12, deadline has passed. The town clerk must verify signatures before those names are officially on the ballot.
For the Town Council, Vice Chair Gary Friedmann and Councilor Joe Minutolo have terms that end this year. Minutolo took out papers, Friday, April 5.
So far Michael Boland, Friedmann, Minutolo, Cosmo Nims, Nina St.Germain, Charles Sidman and Nathan Young have taken out papers. Nims, Sidman, and Young ran in the last election.
Bar Harbor’s sitting Town Councilors are currently being sued by Sidman. The suit involves the enactment and process around cruise ship disembarkation mandates.
Friedmann is also running for the House District 14 seat. He’ll be running against Republican Sandra Gray of Lamoine.
Micheal Boland, Gary Friedmann, Joe Minutolo, Charles Sidman, Nina St.Germain, and Nathan Young have all turned in their papers by the deadline.
For the Warrant Committee, the five members whose terms end are Chair Seth Libby, Meagan Kelly, Kathleen St. Germain, Ezra Sassaman, and Bailey Stillman. Stillman was appointed earlier this year to finish Caleb Cough’s term. Cough had resigned.
Libby and Sassaman decided not to run again. St. Germain did not take out or return papers, but did not speak about it at the last Warrant Committee meeting.
Currently, Steve Boucher, Brooke “Zana” Blomquist, Julia “Jules” Cuchelo, Barbara Dunphey, Gary “Bo” Jennings, Kelly, Elizabeth Lemire, and Stillman have taken out papers.
Boucher is also a former committee member. Blomquist ran for Town Council last year. Cuchelo and Lemire both ran for Warrant Committee last year. Jennings ran for Town Council in the last election.
Brooke “Zana” Blomquist, Steven Boucher, Barbara Dunphey, Gary “Bo” Jennings, Meagan Kelly, and Bailey Stillman have returned papers.
For the Superintending School Committee (Conners Emerson School), Marie Yarborough’s term will end in June and she has turned in her papers seeking reelection.
For the MDI High School Board of Trustees, Chair Rob Jordan’s term ends this year and he has returned papers. Joseph Cough resigned in February. Nobody has taken out or turned in papers to fill the remainder of Cough’s term as a two-year seat.
The following offices will be elected by the voters at the June 10, 2024 town election:
Bar Harbor Town Council Two seats – three-year term
Superintending School Committee One seat– three-year term
MDI High School Trustee One seat – three-year term

Nomination papers have been available in the town clerk’s office since March 3.
There are no term limits in Bar Harbor and incumbents can run for reelection.
The deadline for filing nomination papers with the town clerk was April 12, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. We will have candidate profiles and moderate a debate with the Town Hill Village Improvement Association. A date for that event will be announced soon.
Updated: We added a sentence about Kathleen St. Germain. One of our spellings of Nina St.Germain added a space after the period. We’ve corrected that.
