Bar Harbor Police and Fire Department’s Community Barbecue a Sizzling Success.
More Opportunities to Interact With Town Manager and School Committee This Week
BAR HARBOR—Between Conners Emerson School Building Forums, Comprehensive Plan Forums and the new Town Manager Minutes, Bar Harbor residents have had a lot of opportunities to learn about potential projects and plans in Bar Harbor and via a plethora of surveys from the town’s planning department, they’ve also had an opportunity to answer specific questions posed by the town.
This past Saturday presented a different opportunity when the Bar Harbor Fire Department and Bar Harbor Police Department hosted a community barbecue. Grills waited at the end of the parking lot, burgers sizzled and were flipped, and people took their food and conversation to the picnic tables on the ball field’s edge during the 2.5-hour-long event.
According to Sgt. Soren Sundberg of the Bar Harbor Police Department about 70 attended the event that occurred from 3-5:30 p.m. at the Park Street ball fields. The town stressed that it was “an opportunity for the community to get together and mingle as the season winds down.”
Sgt. Sundberg said it was a fun time and that it went well.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES TO INTERACT THIS WEEK
HANG OUT WITH THE TOWN MANAGER
Kevin Sutherland, Bar Harbor’s town manager, hosts another Manager: Minutes at the Jesup Memorial Library on Wednesday, November 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. This informal session will be a conversation about upcoming infrastructures. People can simply stop by and talk and/or listen to others talk and do not need to stay the entire time or arrive at 4.
BAR HARBOR FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Bar Harbor Fire Department is looking for call force members. The town’s website states, “Becoming a call force firefighter requires extensive training, hard work, and dedication to the community. We rely on call force firefighters to respond quickly to emergencies, to perform firefighting duties, and to provide assistance and support to career firefighters. To be a call force firefighter is to have a chance to aid and serve the community, which is an extremely rewarding experience.”
To check if Bar Harbor Fire Department is currently hiring, please go to the town's jobs page, but even if it isn’t, you can become a call member
School Visioning!
The Conners Emerson Building project is hosting a community forum November 9 from 6-8 p.m. at the school’s cafeteria and is looking for the public to attend and help create a design statement that will inform and guide the renovation or rebuilding process.
