BAR HARBOR— The following incidents occurred in Bar Harbor last week according to the Bar Harbor police log, which is publicly released information.
Monday, July 31, 2023
Officer Liam Harrington took a report of a noise complaint. No disposition was given.
Officer Nathan Formby responded to a noise complaint, located the source of the noise, and had the noise level reduced for the night.
Officer Formby gave someone a ride.
Lt. Kevin Edgecomb provided assistance to a member of the police department’s good morning program.
Lt. Edgecomb took a report of theft of medication. No disposition was given.
Officer Ted Cake responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash that occurred on private property.
Officer T. Cake took a report of graffiti near Park Street.
Lt. Edgecomb took a report of trespassing. The complainant did not want any further action at this time but wanted the occurrence on record.
A pedestrian on West Street reported that a tractor trailer had struck multiple vehicles. Officer Jerrod Hardy responded but could not locate any vehicles that had damage.
Officer Hardy took a report of a theft of a scooter that had occurred two weeks prior.
Officer Formby assisted a someone with a vehicle issue.

Adam Lawson, 46, of Southwest Harbor was driving (no vehicle information was given) west on Indian Point Road when he struck a lobster trap that was in the middle of the roadway. There was no personal injury reported and minor damage to the front bumper of the vehicle. The owner of the lobster trap was identified and agreed to take care of the vehicle damage.
Officer Amie Torrey handled a complaint of an attempted burglary at a church. No disposition was given.
Officer Torrey took a report of someone having put wet paint on another person’s vehicle. There was no damage to the vehicle.
Officer Torrey performed a wellbeing check on a woman and found her to be fine.
Officer Torrey took a late report of a motor vehicle crash. No further information was given.
Officer Chris Dickens received a request to perform a wellbeing check on someone who lives in another area. Officer Dickens referred the request to the correct agency.
Officer Dickens spoke with someone about a suspicious event that occurred on Main Street.
Officer Dickens responded to a report of an RV having struck a parked vehicle near the intersection of Main Street and Newton Way but could not locate the RV or any damaged vehicle.
Julia Axtell, 40, of Bar Harbor, was driving a 2009 Toyota Prius west on Route 3 when a deer entered the roadway and was struck by Axtell’s vehicle. There was no reported personal injury and the vehicle sustained minor damage to the passenger side front corner.
The police department received a motor vehicle complaint from the Maine State Police regarding a vehicle that was in Trenton and heading towards Mount Desert Island. Officers could not locate the suspect vehicle.
Officers assisted the state police with a crash on Thompson Island that involved a car and a motorcycle. Also assisting were Bar Harbor, Mount Desert, and Trenton Fire Departments, ANP rangers, and Northern Lights Ambulance.
Officers responded to the area of Route 3 and Knox Road for a motor vehicle complaint but could not locate the suspect vehicle.
Assistant Harbormaster Chris Johansen responded to a report of illegal clamming. Johansen ended up issuing warnings to those involved and reseeding a small amount of soft-shell clams.
Officer Troy Stanwood assisted the state police and the Maine Marine Patrol with a motor vehicle accident in Trenton.
An officer assisted a disabled motorist on the Crooked Road.
Officer Stanwood assisted the Southwest Harbor Police Department with a domestic violence complaint in Southwest Harbor. The Southwest Harbor officer ultimately arrested a man for domestic violence assault.

Officer Stanwood spoke with two people having a disagreement on the sidewalk. The people discontinued their conversation and left the area.
Officer Stanwood arrested Joshua Forcier, 44, of Trenton, on an active arrest warrant for aggravated forgery, class B.
Officer Judson Cake summonsed Jasmine Jones, 18, of Herriman, Utah, for alleged operating without a license.
Lt. Edgecomb responded to Route 3 at the head of the island regarding a motor vehicle complaint. Lt. Edgecomb later spoke with the operator of the vehicle about his operation.
Sgt. Leigh Guildford conducted traffic control near Conners Emerson School due to a broken-down Island Explorer bus until it could be towed.
Sgt. Guildford took a report of a motor vehicle crash from OnStar but could not locate any crash in the area given by OnStar.
Officer Caleb Mora handled a dispute within a homeowners association but determined that it was a civil issue and not a law enforcement issue.
Caroline Coady, 59, of Woburn, Massachusetts, was driving a 2015 Chevy Equinox behind Lawrence Bartos, 51, Lancaster, New York, who was driving a 2021 GMC Acadia in congested traffic. Coady stated that her foot slipped off of the brake and she allegedly struck the rear of Bartos’ vehicle. There was no personal injury reported and minor damage to both vehicles. Officer Mora warned Coady for leaving the scene of an accident.
Officer Tim Bland assisted someone. No further information was given.
Officer Mora responded to a complaint of an elderly man sitting in an unsafe spot along the roadway. The man told the caller that he was fine and he was not located upon Officer Mora’s arrival.
William Curtis, 57, of Lewiston, was operating a 2021 Honda and pulling out of a parking spot on Cottage Street. Curtis allegedly pulled into the path of a 2016 Hyundai that was being operated by Ashley Gardner, 28, of Bar Harbor. There was minor damage to both vehicles and no reported personal injury.
Officer J. Cake assisted someone who was having a vehicle issue.
Officer J. Cake gave a ride to two people to their hotel.

Pursuant to a traffic stop, Officer Stanwood arrested James Beyor, 77, of Swans Island, for alleged operating under the influence.
After conducting a motor vehicle stop, Officer Kaleb Payson arrested Adam Bradshaw, 24, of Ellsworth for alleged operating under the influence.
Officer Stanwood helped someone contact a taxi for a ride home.
Officer Mora fingerprinted two people for citizenship purposes.
Ernest Velasquez, 57, of Texas, was operating a 2022 Nissan and pulling out of a parking spot on Mount Desert Street when a 2022 GMC Denali being operated by Robert Lapp, 63, of New York, allegedly struck him. There was no reported personal injury and minor damage to both vehicles.
Sgt. Guildford had a vehicle towed from the municipal parking lot behind the West Street Hotel because it had been parked in the middle of a travel lane and was obstructing traffic.
Officer Elias Burne transported someone to the MDI Hospital.
Officer Bland summonsed Trevon Miller, no age given, of Oklahoma, for alleged theft of services after allegedly not having paid for a meal at a restaurant.
Officer Bland took a motor vehicle complaint. No disposition was given.
Officer J. Cake responded to a motor vehicle complaint, located the vehicle, and warned the driver for his poor operation.
Officer Payson took a report of suspicious activity but could not locate any suspicious behavior.

Pursuant to a traffic stop, Officer Stanwood arrested Anna Barry, 28, of New Haven, Connecticut, for alleged operating under the influence.
Someone called to report that the operator of a motor vehicle that was driving in front of her was smoking marijuana. The complaint was made two hours after the incident and the suspect vehicle was not located.
The theft of jewelry was reported to Officer Mora. No disposition was given.
Robert Chester, 85, of Bar Harbor, was driving a 2018 Chevy Trax on Main Street and was driving by a parked 2020 Volvo S60 being operated by Sheila Paulos, 76, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Chester allegedly hit a tire on Paulos’ Volvo. There was no reported personal injury and both vehicles received minimal to no damage. Both vehicles were mechanically disabled from the contact and had to be towed away.
A motor vehicle complaint was made to the police department about a vehicle that is allegedly driven recklessly on a regular basis. All officers were made aware of the complaint so that they can monitor the suspect vehicle’s operation in the future.
Caroline Smith, 22, of Villa Hills, Kentucky was driving a 2022 Honda SUV north on Route 3 and stopped to make a left-hand turn onto the Crooked Road. Emily Emery, 34, of Southwest Harbor was operating a 2014 Subaru SUV and driving behind Smith. Emery allegedly ran into the back of Smith’s vehicle. There was no personal injury reported. Smith’s vehicle suffered moderate damage and Emery’s Subaru had to be towed from the scene.
Officer Mora arrested Aaron Higgins, 39, of Bar Harbor, on an active arrest warrant for failure to appear in court.
Officer Mora performed traffic control while a disabled vehicle from a previous accident was removed by a tow truck.
Officer Bland took a report of a stranded motorist. No further information was given.
Officer Mora responded to a complaint of two residents having a dispute with each other. Both people were warned not to have contact with each other.
Officer J. Cake conducted a well-being check and found the person to be fine.
Officer J. Cake took a report of theft. The complainant had already gotten the stolen property back and the suspect was not located.
After conducting a traffic stop, Officer J. Cake arrested Adam Liborio, 35, of Fall River, Massachusetts, for alleged operating under the influence.

Someone reported neglected dogs. Officer Mora determined that the dogs were not neglected.
Officer Torrey assisted the Mount Desert Fire Department with a medical call in Bar Harbor.
A dog in the roadway was struck by a vehicle. No disposition was given.
A woman overdosed on narcotics and was transported to the hospital.
Officer Burne assisted someone. No further information was given.
Kevin Burke, 54, of Massachusetts, was driving a 2012 Jeep Liberty west on Route 3. Amy Desjardin, 17, of Eastbrook, was driving a 2017 Hyundai Accent behind Burke. Burke slowed in traffic and Desjardin’s vehicle allegedly hit Burke’s in the rear. There was no injury information given and both vehicles suffered an unspecified amount of damage.
Officer Burne responded to an animal issue. No further information was given.
Officers assisted the fire department on a medical call.
Officer Formby took an individual into protective custody.
An officer responded to a noise complaint at a downtown business but determined that it was unfounded.
