BAR HARBOR—On March 29, 2023, Thomas O. Alley, 59, of Bar Harbor was sentenced to two years in prison for aggravated domestic violence assault in a sentence from Hancock County Superior Court Justice Robert Murray. Previously, on March 6, 2023, Alley had plead no contest to that charge and others that include obstructing the report of a crime, a misdemeanor, criminal restraint with a dangerous weapon, and domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, both felonies.

Justice Murray’s sentence for Alley was seven years in prison, with all but years years suspended and three years of probation upon Alley’s release from prison.

The following incidents occurred in Bar Harbor last week according to the Bar Harbor police log, which is publicly released information.

Monday, March 27, 2023

Officer Kaleb Payson was conducting business security checks at approximately 1:30 a.m. when he found a business with an unlocked door. After Officer Payson checked the building and found no intruders and nothing suspicious, he secured the door.

After performing a traffic stop on a motor vehicle, Officer Troy Stanwood issued William Desantis IV, 30, of Orland, a summons for alleged criminal speed.

Officer Stanwood returned some property to its owner.

Officer Stanwood served a notice of no trespass on behalf of another agency.

Officer Stanwood assisted the Bar Harbor Fire Department with a medical call.

Officers assisted a federal law enforcement agency.

Officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle parked in the roadway in the area of the Lakewood entrance on the Crooked Road.

Officer Dickens assisted the Bar Harbor Fire Department with investigating activity at a residence.

An officer checked on a suspicious vehicle located on the Eagle Lake Road.

Officer Jerrod Hardy took some information from an individual.

Officer Dickens responded to a report of an injured deer on Route 3 near Bayview Drive.

Wednesday, March 29, 2023

Officer Payson and others responded to a report of a possible attempted suicide. After an investigation it was determined that there had been no suicide attempt and that the subject was okay.

Officer Payson and other officers assisted at the MDI Hospital.

Officer Judson Cake investigated a parking complaint and learned that a road was closed due to construction.

Officer Cake took an allegedly suicidal female into protective custody and transported her to the MDI Hospital.

An officer and the BH Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at a downtown business. Upon investigation it was determined that the business had an open burn pit which was extinguished.

An officer assisted MDI Hospital with getting involuntary committal paperwork signed.

Officers responded to a report of a subject walking in the middle of Route 3 near the Tarn.

Thursday, March 30, 2023

John Delaittre, 33, of Bar Harbor was operating a 2011 Chevy Silverado northbound on Route 102 when his vehicle struck a deer. There was minor damage to the front bumper of the truck and no human injury.

Officer Tim Bland responded to a dog complaint.

Officer Bland checked on the well-being of a subject.

Officer Stanwood gave a subject a ride back to their residence from the MDI Hospital.

Amanda Mogridge, 37, of Bar Harbor was operating a 2019 Subaru Forester westbound on the Eagle Lake Road when the vehicle struck a turkey. There was no damage to the vehicle and no human injury.

The police department took a report of a vehicle in Trenton that was heading towards the island that appeared to be having electrical issues. Officers could not locate the vehicle in Bar Harbor.

Officer Caleb Mora used the department’s battery jumper box to help a delivery man whose truck had a dead battery.

Officer Mora took a report of an injured deer in Bar Harbor and passed the information along to the Maine Warden’s Service.

Officer Stanwood took a report of a dog bite incident. One person was transported to the hospital as a result of their bite wounds.

Chief Jim Willis spoke to an individual about a family situation.

Officer Elias Burne investigated an unattended death.

Officer Hardy assisted someone with finding their vehicle.

Officer Hardy and the BH Fire Department responded to a report of an unattended brush fire at the end of a driveway. The reporting party also stated that the individuals at the residence in question were yelling and swearing. Upon arrival, the fire department put the fire out and Officer Hardy investigated the argument which was only verbal in nature.

Officer Amie Torrey received a referral from the Maine Computer Crimes Unit.

Officer Burne conducted a “fill the cruiser” event at Hannaford Supermarket, which is part of the month-long Hancock County Food Drive.

A firearm was turned into the police department.

Officer Burne investigated a complaint that someone’s neighbor had backed into the complainant’s fence. There was minimal damage to the fence.

Following the stop of a motor vehicle, Officer Stanwood arrested Ashlee Piskura, 28, of Southwest Harbor for alleged operating under the influence. Piskura was transported to the Hancock County Jail.

Following the stop of a motor vehicle, Officer Caleb Mora summonsed Ryan Miller, 40, of Burnham, for alleged operating under suspension and alleged operating without a license.

Officer Cake completed a sex offender registry verification form for a resident.
