Bar Harbor Village Improvement Association Still Needs Your Help
Matching Donation Opportunity Now
BAR HARBOR—The winter storms of January 10 and 13 ravaged the Shore Path in an unprecedented manner. Sea walls were knocked down, boulders and granite slabs were moved, and the path was eroded so badly that underground infrastructure was exposed in multiple locations.
Many fundraising efforts have been made and the Bar Harbor Village Improvement Association (VIA) raised many much needed funds, but it still needs your help to ensure that it can complete the project and have some funds remaining in its coffers for future maintenance needs. The VIA has just introduced a matching funds campaign, which has been made possible by Ruth Colket.
Double Your Impact: Support the Completion & Future Maintenance of the Bar Harbor Shore Path Restoration
With the Shore Path along the Bar Harbor Inn completed and open to the public, restoration efforts have moved to the Path's opposite end with structural work now complete and fill work to happen next. Crews will continue as long as the weather holds out, with plans to finish this second long stretch before the winter comes. The final and most difficult section, Grant Park to Hancock Street, is planned for the early spring of 2025. This stretch is challenging to access and the scope of work is significant, but the hope is for the Shore Path to open in full sometime in the spring of 2025.
According the the VIA, your support is still needed!!
“As we round out fundraising for completion of the Shore Path and its future viability, every dollar you donate today will be matched—up to $30,000, thanks to the generosity of Ruth M. Colket,” VIA representatives said.
“That means your gift will have double the impact, bringing us even closer to fully restoring this iconic path,” they continued. “Costs for this project have exceeded projections and your support will allow for finalizing this extraordinary undertaking and provide funds for future maintenance.”

They can ask all the business in town since they are the ones the benifit the most from the shore path.
Great to hear that work continues on the historic shore path! As to funding needs I'd think this would be a perfect project to receive a substantial donation from the cruise ship account? For many cruise ship passengers a walk along the shore path is the highlight of their visit to Bar Harbor and a most welcome relief from the overcrowded downtown sidewalks.
