BAR HARBOR—On June 15, at approximately 11:27 p.m., Officer Troy Stanwood attempted to stop a pair of motorcycles heading west on West Street. The motorcycles did not stop and Officer Stanwood continued to follow them. According to Captain David Kerns, there was no “real” speed involved in the incident and it only lasted approximately a half mile or less before one of the motorcyclists crashed into the grassy median at the intersection of West Street and Eden Street.
Following the crash, Alan Jaillet, 56, of New Brunswick, Canada, was taken to the hospital where he was transported to the MDI Hospital, treated for minor injuries, and released. Jaillet was arrested for alleged eluding an officer and summonsed for alleged refusing to submit to arrest, alleged driving to endanger and multiple alleged traffic offenses. Jaillet was transported to the Hancock County Jail.
The second subject had not stopped when Jaillet crashed but because Jaillet told Officer Stanwood where they were staying, the second subject, Alexandre Girouard, 35, of Dieppe, New Brunswick was located by Officer Kaleb Payson and arrested for alleged eluding an officer. Girouard was also summonsed for alleged operating under the influence.
The following incidents occurred in Bar Harbor last week according to the Bar Harbor police log, which is publicly released information.

Officer Kaleb Payson handled an animal complaint.
Officer Elias Burne responded to a report of a vehicle that had slid off the pavement. The vehicle was on private property and was towed by the property manager.
A person reported that they had lost their purse.
Ava Philbrook, 18, of Trenton, Maine, was driving a 2012 Chevy Cruze eastbound on Cottage Street when Diane Buckner, 70, of New Hampshire, driving a 2003 Chevy Roadtrek, allegedly failed to maintain sufficient distance and ran into the rear of Philbrook’s vehicle. There were no injuries and minor damage to both vehicles.
Lt. Kevin Edgecomb assisted another agency with information gathering for an ongoing investigation.
Officer Burne responded to a medical call that resulted in a subject being transported to the hospital.
Officer Chris Dickens served a subpoena on behalf of the Hancock County Districts Attorney’s Office.
Officer Dickens provided traffic control so that a commercial vehicle could move from Robert’s Avenue to Cottage Street.
Officer Dickens took a report of a possible civil rights violation. The report is under review.
Someone turned a piece of found property in to the police department.
A property owner reported a vehicle parked on their private property. Officer Jerrod Hardy advised the property owner that they could have the vehicle towed if they wanted to.

Officer Liam Harrington assisted a group of people who has lost their car keys at Sand Beach by providing them a ride into town.
In case it was found and turned in, a person reported having lost some property.
Officer Dickens spoke with an individual and their family regarding a mental health matter.
Someone reported having lost their wallet but called back later to report that they had found it in a bag that was on a bike that they had rented.
An officer went to a Cottage Street business to investigate a report of vandalism.
A woman from Pennsylvania reported that her vehicle had been struck by the adjacent parked car’s door. An officer took a report.
A woman went to the police department to make a report of identity theft.
A found wallet was turned in to the police department.

A local resident reported that their cat was missing after it had been chased by a dog. The cat was back home by the next morning.
Someone reported having lost property.
Officer Ted Cake handled a late report of an assault. After investigating and speaking with the District Attorney’s Office, it was determined that no charges would be issued.
Officer Tim Bland took care of a parking complaint.
Officer Dickens responded to a report of possible unwanted tree removal at a property.
A person went to the police department to speak with an officer about an incident involving a dog.
Someone turned found property in to the police department.
Found property was turned in to the police department.
A wallet was turned in to the police department and was reunited with its the owner.
Rob Hebron, 43, of Southwest Harbor, was driving a 2020 Toyota pickup eastbound on Eagle Lake Road when a deer entered the roadway and struck the vehicle. There were no human injuries and the truck sustained damage to the driver’s front.
Officer Bland stopped a motor vehicle due to it being operated in an erratic manner, but there were no charges.

Officer Judson Cake transported someone back to their residence from the hospital.
Officer Dickens attempted to locate two individuals at the request of another agency.
Officer T. Cake responded to a report of an individual acting strangely but could not locate anyone in the area.
Officer Dickens spoke with a business owner regarding a civil matter.
Officer Ken Mitchell took some information from a business but no further action was taken.
Sgt. Leigh Guildford fingerprinted someone for employment purposes.
Officer Bland handled a non-reportable crash on Main Street.
Officer Bland responded to a disorderly event complaint which required no further action.
Officer Bland attempted to serve court paperwork to someone.
James Ingwersen, 23, of Lexington, Massachusetts, was driving a 2015 Volkswagen GTI northbound on Route 3 when he pulled to the side of the road to yield to an ambulance coming from behind. When the ambulance passed, Ingwersen allegedly attempted to pull back onto the roadway and collided with a 2020 Nissan which was being operated by Aaron Kontio, 21, of Milo, Maine, also heading north. There was no personal injury and both vehicles sustained non-disabling damage.
Officers assisted an outside agency.
Officer Troy Stanwood took a report of a possible municipal ordinance violation but after investigation determined that there was no violation.
Officer Bland assisted someone with a disabled vehicle.
Pursuant to a motor vehicle stop, Officer Stanwood arrested Sheila Kirby, 76, of Mount Desert, for alleged operating under the influence.
Officer Payson responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking area of a local business and determined that it was the cleaning crew.

Officer Stanwood warned two people for trespass at a business.
Officer Stanwood warned a person for violating the town’s ordinance which prohibits sleeping in vehicles parked on the street overnight.
After conducting a motor vehicle stop, Officer J. Cake summonsed Edwin Peake, 56, of Otter Creek, for alleged operating after suspension and alleged violation of conditions of release.
Officer Stanwood responded to a medical call.
Sgt. Guildford served a temporary protection order on a person at the police department.
A man reported having lost his wallet.
A woman reported having lost some jewelry.
Sgt. Guildford handled a non-reportable crash on Mount Desert Street.
Someone brought a found key in to the police department.

Officer Stanwood took a report of damage that had been done to a parking meter on Cottage Street.
Officer Amie Torrey reunited a dog that had been running loose with its owners.
Following a motor vehicle stop, Officer Caleb Mora summonsed Jill Sandler, 47, of Southwest Harbor, for alleged operating without a license and alleged operating after suspension.
Sgt. Guildford responded to a report of a truck on Route 3 that had no working brake lights. Sgt. Guildford located the truck and made the owner aware. The owner said that he would get the issue fixed immediately.
Christopher Dupuis, 44, of Maine, was driving a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound in the Old PD Parking Lot. Zejun Dong, 23, of Massachusetts was driving a 2020 Ford Explorer behind Dupuis. Dupuis allegedly started to back up and alleged backed into Dong’s vehicle. There was no personal injury and minor damage to both vehicles.
A person reported losing a cellphone.
After conducting a motor vehicle stop, Officer Hardy arrested Jonathan Asbury, 48, of Bernard, for allegedly failing to give his correct name and date of birth and allegedly violating his conditions of release. Officer Hardy also arrested Matthew Crabtree, 30, of Ellsworth, for an active arrest warrant. Both men were transported to the Hancock County Jail. Once at the jail, Asbury was then summonsed by Officer Hardy for alleged trafficking in prison contraband.

Someone reported losing their wallet.
After receiving a report of someone passed out behind the steering wheel of a vehicle, Officer Mora arrested Heather Winkler, 27, of Bangor, for alleged operating under the influence.
A person called the police department to pass on some information.
Sgt. Guildford took a report of a vehicle that had been parked overnight in the Days Inn parking lot. The vehicle had been struck during the night, which caused damage to both passenger side doors.
Officers assisted the ambulance with a male subject who was having some issues on Cottage Street.
Officer Mora responded to a motor vehicle operation complaint in Bar Harbor and eventually located the vehicle in Mount Desert. The driver of the vehicle advised that the vehicle had multiple mechanical defects and was subsequently warned for operating an unsafe motor vehicle.
Officer Hardy spoke with two neighbors who were having a verbal argument outside.
Someone reported finding some new power tools in the woods thinking they may be stolen. They were collected by Officer Hardy and taken to the police department.
A motorist reported an elderly man from out of state was driving very erratically. The reporting party was able to stop the man from driving. The man was transported to the hospital where Officer Hardy was able to connect his family with hospital staff and arrange for him to get back home without driving himself.
