BAR HARBOR—The kindness begins, as many things do, with an email sent to the community.
The Conners Emerson Parent Teachers Students Association (PTSA) wanted help so that it could help families in the school community that have a hard time in winter months. It asked for support. The program began in 2018 under Sarah Stanley’s direction. The need hasn’t stopped. The program hasn’t either.
“We started CES CARES when we saw a need within our own school. The outpouring of donations each year is heartwarming. Donations are anonymous. The list is kept private with our school nurse. Families will receive gift cards to purchase something they might need over the holidays. A handwritten note is sent, wishing you a happy holiday from our CES Tiger family and loving community,” said PTSA President Jen Dougherty.
You do not need to be a member of the school community to donate to help families during the winter months.
The email reads,
"We have some families in our CES community who struggle during the winter months. In 2018 the PTSA introduced CES CARES, a program that distributes gift cards to help support CES families in need at this time of year. The holidays are a perfect time to spread goodwill, so if you are able, please consider making a donation to lend a helping hand to members of our CES family. 100% OF YOUR DONATION will go towards purchasing gift cards to be distributed to those families who could use some extra support at this time.”
Donations can be sent to the school in an envelope marked “CES CARES” with a student, or you can mail donations to:
Conners Emerson School
Attn: PTSA
11 Eagle Lake Road
Bar Harbor, ME 04609
Checks can be made out to “CES PTSA” with “CES CARES” in the memo.
TIGER RAFFLE
In honor of their hard work and dedication in supporting their school, several students received $25 Visa gift cards generously donated by First National Bank, and day passes to Volta Climbing and Fitness generously donated by Volta Climbing and Fitness.
The students each sold $600 or more in TIGERaffle entries. Fourth grader, Marshall sold $1290 of entries this year!
“We are so appreciative of these students and their supportive friends & families. The funds they've raised will provide many exciting opportunities & supplies for all CES students, and they should be very proud of their contribution to that!” Dr. Heather Webster Weir wrote in TigerTalk.
