BAR HARBOR—There were no stand-out incidents in Bar Harbor this past week though there were a few lost dogs. However, we published a related news story updating the status of Jereme Gee and a Bar Harbor man’s arrest for allegedly being involved in a Lamoine shooting last Friday.
The following incidents occurred in Bar Harbor last week according to the Bar Harbor police log, which is publicly released information.
Monday, July 10, 2023
Officer Ted Cake investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on private property.
Jessica Doane, 20, of Towawanda, New York, was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla and approaching the intersection of Main Street and Hancock Street. Samantha Nigida, 25, of Mount Desert, was driving a 2010 Honda CRV and heading north on Main Street. Doane allegedly continued to turn onto Hancock Street and hit Nigida. There was no reported personal injury and minor damage to both vehicles.
Officer Elias Burne investigated an animal issue but took no action.
An officer responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident at a business but upon response, discovered that neither vehicle had sustained any damage.
Both the police and fire departments responded to a report of a man on the ground in the area of the Cottage Street and Bridge Street intersection. Joseph MacQuinn, 56, of Bar Harbor, was transported to the hospital and was issued a criminal summons for alleged violation of conditions of release.
An officer investigated a late report of a motor vehicle accident that had occurred on Kennebec Street. It was determined that neither vehicle sustained any damage.
Officer Troy Stanwood handled a theft complaint made by a business but could not locate the suspect at the time. He is investigating this matter.

Officer Liam Harrington responded to a report of a disorderly person in a residence.
Officer T. Cake handled a loose dog complaint but was advised that the culprit had returned home before he was found by humans.
Officer T. Cake responded to a report of a domestic situation occurring in a motor vehicle but could not locate the suspect vehicle.
Officer Jerrod Hardy performed a wellbeing check at the request of another person and found the person to be all set.
Sgt. Doug Brundrett spoke with an Ellsworth woman regarding some concerns that she had about a previous relationship.
Pursuant to responding to a report of a domestic disturbance in Town Hill, Officer Hardy arrested Aaron J. Sonk, 44, of Lebanon, New Hampshire, for alleged domestic violence assault. Sonk was transported to the Hancock County Jail.

Officer Judson Cake assisted the Bangor Police Department.
A motorist reported to Officer Caleb Mora that he had driven close to a pedestrian and the pedestrian had hit the hood of the motorist’s vehicle.
Matthew Ronstadt, 52, of Tucson, Arizona, left his 2023 Cadillac XT4 parked in the parking lot of the Days Inn on Eden Street, and the next morning, he discovered that another vehicle had hit the front end of his car and caused moderate damage. The offending vehicle is unknown.
Officer Mora checked on a person as part of the department’s “good morning program” and found the person to not be at home.
Officer T. Cake responded to a report of a loose dog on the Oak Hill Road but could not locate the dog.
Officer Mora investigated a complaint of dogs left in a vehicle and found the vehicle to be occupied by the dogs and the vehicle owner. The dogs were fine.
Officers went to the Indian Point Road for a report of a loose dog. The dog’s owner was contacted and later retrieved the dog.
Kaitlyn Sbrollini, 26, of Pleasant Valley, New York, was driving a 2020 Volkswagen SUV and allegedly struck a 2008 Ford F-350 that was parked and last operated by James Bence, 68, of Bar Harbor, on Albert Meadow.
Officer Tim Bland handled a parking complaint on Cottage Street.

Officer Kaleb Payson responded to a motor vehicle complaint that was passed on by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department. Officer Payson located the vehicle but did not observe any violations.
Officer Stanwood checked on a motorist who was pulled over on the side of the road. The motorist did not require any assistance.
Officer Mora assisted the Southwest Harbor Police Department with an emergency incident but was called off before he arrived.
The police and fire departments responded to a report of a man passed out on the ground in the area of West Street but could not locate any such person.
Officer Mora took a report from a motorist that they hit a deer. There was reportedly no damage to the deer, vehicle occupants, or vehicle.
Officer Burne performed a wellbeing check and found that the person being checked on did not require any assistance.
Officer Bland handled a parking issue on West Street.
Officer Burne responded to a call for assistance from a female who did not require assistance upon Officer Burne’s arrival.
Officer Burne assisted staff at the MDI Hospital.
Officer Payson investigated a noise complaint but could not locate the source of the noise.

Officer T. Cake assisted an Island Explorer bus that was broken down on the bluffs.
An officer assisted the Department of Health and Human Services with an investigation.
An officer responded to Route 3 for a motor vehicle complaint, located the suspect vehicle, and warned the operator for distracted driving.
Officer Burne warned a person for camping in their vehicle in town.
Officers fingerprinted two different women for employment background checks.
Officer Bland responded to a report of gunshots but could not locate where they may have come from.
Officer Bland assisted another agency.
Sgt. Soren Sundberg investigated a potential theft.
Officer Bland took a report from someone who said that they had been in a crash.
Someone made an anonymous report of an animal in a vehicle but the vehicle was gone upon the officer’s arrival.
Officers assisted the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and the Maine State Police with an ongoing investigation.

Someone reported a suspicious interaction with another person. Officer Hardy made contact with both parties and found that it was a misunderstanding and that everything was fine.
Officer Nathan Formby responded to a verbal argument and the two people were separated for the night.
Officer Stanwood took a report of a missing person and located them after a short search. They were reunited with their family.

Officer Stanwood assisted the fire department with a medical call.
Pursuant to a traffic stop, Officer Stanwood arrested a man for alleged operating under the influence. After further investigation, the man was released on his own recognizance.
Officer Formby responded to a complaint of suspicious activity. He could not determine that any suspicious activity had occurred but he did provide someone with resources for transportation.
A man went to the police department to report some activity in another town and was informed that he needed to contact the law enforcement agency in that town.
The police department took a report of a motor vehicle operating erratically on Route 102 heading towards Southwest Harbor. All officers were out of position so the Southwest Harbor Police Department was notified of the complaint.
Officer Hardy is investigating the theft of money from residential housing.

Someone reported some vandalism. Extra patrols will be done in the area of the complaint.
The police department received some information and after conducting an investigation, Officer T. Cake issued no charges.
Officer Hardy assisted a motorist whose vehicle had broken down on the Crooked Road.
After receiving a report of a motor vehicle operating erratically, Officer Hardy located the vehicle, made contact with the driver, and found no impairment.
After receiving a complaint about its operation, Officer Hardy was unable to locate the vehicle and the complaint was passed on to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.
Pursuant to a complaint about a motor vehicle’s operation, Officer Payson was able to locate the vehicle and warn the operator for the way that they were driving.
A woman called the police department to report that she had not seen nor heard from her roommate in almost 24 hours. The roommate returned home shortly after the report was made.
Officer Formby investigated a noise complaint and deemed it to be unsubstantiated.
Officer Payson took a report of motor vehicle operation and the vehicle was subsequently located off the island.
