Family Fun Days at the Jesup Featuring Miniature Donkeys Sure to be an A-Mule-Sing Good Time
Bendable Maine launches locally at the free event
BAR HARBOR—Imagine: miniature donkeys, bubbles galore, door prizes. Bendable Maine, free refreshments, books, and cool librarians.
Seems a little impossible, right? Like a storybook? Or a fairytale?
But no, on Thursday, August 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., everyone is invited to the Jesup Memorial Library for a party cosponsored by Island Readers & Writers and librarians want patrons to check out not just the celebration but a new statewide learning platform.
And this party? It’s a family fun day and an end of summer reading party celebration where participants get to hang out with miniature donkeys, yes, but also learn more about the Jesup’s online offerings including downloadable books and audiobooks, databases, comics, and more including its brand-new offering: Bendable Maine.
“Everyone is welcome to our family fun day/Bendable launch! There will be something for everyone, including face painting, bubbles, miniature donkeys, raffle prizes and more. It's a great opportunity to connect with community members and celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of the new school year,” said Youth Services Librarian Abby Morrow.
It is also the launch of Bendable Maine, which is a free online learning platform that anyone with a library card can access. Bendable Maine offers classes and a plethora of resources.
The program goes live August 23 and its goal is to create lifelong learning. It’s offered by the Maine State Library and the Drucker Institute.
Maine State Librarian James Ritter said, “This opportunity to bring a customizable lifelong learning platform for all Maine people is incredibly exciting. Harnessing the creativity of Maine people, universities and colleges, as well as Maine businesses and nonprofits, will be fundamental in making Bendable Maine a success.”
So, the event not only features the library’s festival of family fun and snacks, but partygoers can also learn how much more their library card can suddenly do for them. It’s not just exploring books and resources and hooking into the wi-fi at the library; it’s about learning and growing and evolving through statewide classes and resources, a win-win for anyone who wants to learn and celebrate at the same time.
