BAR HARBOR—Bar Harbor Fire Department quickly contained a structure fire on Mount Desert Street that was called in at 1:57 a.m. June 2. The police arrived first and notified the fire department that the street was full of smoke and that they could see flames through the window of the building, which is part of Queen Anne’s Flower Shop. The initial complaint had come in as the smell of burning with an electric odor.
The fire department toned out a second alarm, but firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames, so they cancelled the request for all assisting agencies except for Mount Desert Fire Department.
Some windows were broken and there was melted siding on the side of Cherrystones. The small space had significant damage. Fire Chief Matt Bartlett said the fire was caused by a discarded cigarette.
On May 30, the Bar Harbor Police Department received a call from a 17-year-old male’s father reporting that his missing runaway son was believed to be in Bar Harbor. The police department referred the complaint to the Lawrenceburg (Kentucky) Police Department. The boy is from that area.
Approximately two hours later, the Lawrenceburg Police Department called the Bar Harbor Police Department to report that a 17-year-old juvenile was missing from Kentucky and possibly in Bar Harbor with his older brother. Officers located the missing juvenile in Bar Harbor and he was transported to the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, Maine where he would wait for his parents to come and bring him back home.
The following incidents occurred in Bar Harbor last week according to the Bar Harbor police log, which is publicly released information.

Officer Liam Harrington provided a ride to an intoxicated Bar Harbor resident.
Officer Harrington and other officers looked for a man who had not returned to his hotel room after a night on the town. He was located a short time later.
Officer Amie Torrey executed a search warrant.
Officer Tim Bland responded to a report of a dog fight. The dogs’ owners exchanged information and no criminal charges were filed.
Lt. Kevin Edgecomb and Officer Elias Burne advised a Bar Harbor resident of a death.
Officer Jerrod Hardy handled a report of a verbal altercation that had occurred on the previous day. There was no criminal conduct but one of the individuals involved was issued no trespass warnings for multiple properties.
Officer Burne assisted another agency in town.
Officer Nathan Formby conducted a security check at a local business.
Officer Burne responded to a municipal ordinance violation.

After checking on an improperly parked vehicle, Officer Formby arrested Christopher Hinkle, 46, of Delray Beach, Florida, for alleged operating under the influence. Hinkle was also summonsed for alleged operating without a license, alleged false attachment of a license plate, and alleged open container violation.
A man reported losing his iPad with a black case.
A woman reported losing a credit card.
A man reported losing his wallet containing his identification.
A woman reported losing her wallet.
Officer Bland assisted a student with a non-criminal matter.
The police department received a report of a dog running loose. Officer Theodore Cake assisted with locating the animal and reuniting it with its owner.
Officer Hardy investigated a complaint of people parking their vehicles in a yellow painted curb no parking area. Officer Hardy could find no such violations in the area of the complaint.
A Vermont man turned in a driver’s license to the police department. The license had been found on Mount Desert Street.
Jeffery Watson, 43, of Bass Harbor, was driving his 2020 Dodge truck westbound on the Eagle Lake Road when a deer ran into the roadway and was struck by Watson’s truck. There was no damage to the vehicle and no reported human injuries.
Officer Chris Dickens went to the MDI Hospital to handle a dog bite complaint.
An officer went to a Route 3 business in reference to a guest having been locked out of their hotel room. The officer contacted the hotel management who was able to let the guest back into their room.
Officer Troy Stanwood gave an individual a ride home.

Officer Stanwood responded to a 911 call from a residence. Upon investigation, Officer Stanwood determined that a verbal disagreement had taken place and one of the participants was warned for disorderly conduct.
Officer Torrey is investigating a report of theft from a construction site.
Officer T. Cake handled a report of a missing pet. The pet was located by its owners a short time later.
Officer Torrey received a complaint of a man walking his dog on pavement.
A man reported to the police department that he had lost his credit card.
Officers responded to a dispute between neighbors on West Street Extension. The involved individuals were warned for disorderly conduct.
Officer Dickens checked in with an individual regarding that persons federal probation status.
An officer spoke with a man from Mount Desert regarding a noise complaint on Mount Desert Street.

Officer Kaleb Payson handled a noise complaint and upon investigation determined that the complaint was unsubstantiated but made the group aware of the complaint.
Officer Judson Cake took a 911 call of a woman screaming but upon arrival in the area learned that the woman was looking for her boyfriend.
Officer J. Cake met with an individual reporting some suspicious and discussed some options with the complainant.
Officer Payson assisted the fire department with a medical call.
Officer J. Cake transported a man off of the island.
Officer T. Cake assisted another agency.
Sgt. Leigh Guildford arrested Alexis B. Lilly, 31, of Bar Harbor, for allegedly violating a protection order. Lilly was transported to the Hancock County Jail. Update: These charges were later dismissed.
An individual turned in two keys to the police department that they had found in the street.
Officer Caleb Mora advised a resident on what their recourse was for a parking complaint on private property.
A wallet that was located on Cottage Street was turned in to the police department.
A person reported having lost their wallet while hiking but later reported that they had found it.
Officer Dickens investigated a report of a possible attempted break in at a Route 3 business.
A found debit card was turned in to the police department.

After performing a motor vehicle stop, Officer Stanwood arrested Ghali Casilleja-Juarez, 31, of Bar Harbor, for alleged operating under the influence.
Officer Stanwood summonsed Albert Dominguez, 23, of Ellsworth, for alleged operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration after a traffic stop.
Officer Stanwood received a report of aggressive driving on the Eagle Lake Road. After locating the suspect vehicle, Officer Stanwood warned the driver for their vehicle operation.
A female turned in a found cellphone to the police department. The phone was collected by its owner a short time later.
David Cleaves, no age given, of Bar Harbor, had parked his 2020 Kia Soul on Cottage Street. While attempting to exit the vehicle, Cleaves allegedly opened his door in front of a passing 2022 Chevy Malibu which was being driven by Andrew Pittman, no age given, of Auburn, Alabama. The door of Cleaves vehicle hit the mirror of Pittman’s vehicle. There was minor damage to both vehicles and no injuries were reported.
A person called the police department to pass on some information.
Officer Mora is investigating the report of theft by forgery made by a local business.
A person turned in a found cellphone to the police department. The cell phone was claimed by its owner later in the day.
Somebody reported to the police department that they had lost their keys.
Officer Dickens responded to a traffic safety complaint on Cottage Street.
The police department received a complaint of a safety hazard on a sidewalk. An officer placed cones around the hazard and the Public Works Department was contacted and made aware of the complaint.
A person reported to the police department that they had lost their wallet.
Ekhlas Ahmed, 32, of Windham, was driving a 2022 Chrysler Pacifica southbound on Route 102. Christopher Kubin, 43, of Texas, was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry southbound on Route 102 behind Ahmed. Ahmed slowed for a vehicle in front of it and Kubin allegedly failed to slow down enough and struck the rear of Ahmed’s vehicle. There was damage to the rear of Ahmed’s vehicle and to the front of Kubin’s vehicle, but neither vehicle had to be towed. No injuries were reported.
Sgt. Soren Sundberg is investigating possible liquor license violations with the assistance of the Maine Liquor Enforcement Agency.
Officer J. Cake responded to a report of possible suspicious activity but was unable to locate anything suspicious.
A 17 year old from Fanning Springs, Florida, was operating a 2016 Subaru Outback westbound on the Crooked Road when the vehicle left the roadway to the left. There were minor injuries to multiple occupants and one person was transported to the hospital. The vehicle sustained sufficient damage to be towed from the scene.
After conducting a traffic stop, Officer Formby arrested Peter Cannon, 22, of Bar Harbor, on an active arrest warrant.
A 17 year old from Mount Desert was operating a 2011 Subaru Impreza southbound on Route 102 when the vehicle left the roadway to the left and struck a telephone pole. The driver was taken to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle was considered a total loss and was towed from the scene.

Officer J. Cake arrested Caroline Kolman, 27, of Otter Creek, for alleged operating under the influence.
A man called the police department to report that his dog was missing in the Hull’s Cove area.
A found cellphone was turned in to the police department. The phone was retrieved by its owner the next day.
An officer conducted a wellbeing check on a person. They were found to be okay.
After performing a motor vehicle stop, Officer Hardy summonsed Yvon Destin, 49, of Bar Harbor for alleged operating a motor vehicle after license suspension.
Pursuant to a traffic stop, Officer Hardy arrested Yulian Maksutov, 28, of Ellsworth for alleged operating without a license in violation of a condition. Maksutov was also summonsed for alleged unlawful possession of a schedule X drug. Maksutov was transported to the Hancock County Jail.

Officer Harrington performed a wellbeing check and as a result, Casey D. Strickland, 19, of Brooksville, Florida, was summonsed for alleged minor in possession of alcohol and alleged possession of a false identification card.
A tourist reported that a business lost their property in Bar Harbor.
Officer Torrey assisted ambulance personnel with an out-of-control patient.
The police department notified the Bar Harbor Wastewater Division of an issue.
Somebody turned in a ring to the police department for safekeeping.
Officer Burne investigated a report of possible vandalism. After an investigation, he determined that no vandalism had occurred.
The police department received a complaint about a vehicle parked on private property. The owner of the property will be addressing the issue.
