UPDATED: Fire Totals Home Under Renovation
TRENTON—Shortly after midnight on Wednesday, October 16, the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 29 Captain Douglas Lane.
According to the Trenton Fire Chief Steve Heckman, “Upon arrival, crews observed a single-family dwelling that was considered fully involved with fire visibly showing through the roof, front, and sides of the building.”
Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire, but the home sustained heavy fire damage.
The home had been being renovated. No one was home at the time of the fire. No one was injured.
Crews worked into the morning overhauling the structure. The home, including the tools and equipment inside of it, are a total loss.
“It was reported that the home was currently not insured as construction was still underway,” Chief Heckman said.
The State Fire Marshall will assist with the investigation.
Mutual aid was provided from Ellsworth, Lamoine, and Hancock. Other fire agencies were called in to back-fill those responding departments. Northern Light Health sent an ambulance and crew. Versant Power secured utilities.
“Mutual aid is a must for small, rural departments with volunteer crews,” said Lamoine Deputy Fire Chief Marckoon. “With a few well-trained people from four departments responding, we can put together enough manpower and equipment to make a very good fire attack. The departments could always use more responders ready to jump out of bed at midnight and be willing to pull an ‘all nighter’ to help keep our neighbors safe.
