Local Man Seriously Injured in Crash While Riding Motorcycle
Man summonsed numerous times after allegedly hitting another vehicle and fleeing
BAR HARBOR—On December 22, Josiah Estabrook, 28, of Bar Harbor was riding a Honda CRF300 motorcycle north on Route 3 at the intersection with Salt Water Lane in Bar Harbor. Estabrook allegedly crossed into the opposing lane and struck a 2020 Toyota Prius that was being operated by Ethan Anderson, 48, of Bar Harbor.
Estabrook was wearing a helmet but sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported by ambulance to MDI Hospital and then via Lifeflight of Maine to Northern Light Hospital in Bangor. Anderson was not injured in the crash.
The crash was reconstructed by accident reconstruction specialists from the Ellsworth Police Department and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department. The Bar Harbor Fire Department, the Bar Harbor Ambulance, the Mount Desert Fire Department, and the Mount Desert Ambulance assisted the Bar Harbor Police Department on the scene.
On December 21, William F. Moholland, 56, of Lincoln, Maine, was driving a 2019 Ford F-150 and allegedly struck a 2015 Subaru Forester that was being driven by Kaitlin M. Young, 31, of Northeast Harbor, at the intersection of Mount Desert Street and Holland Avenue in Bar Harbor.
Moholland left the scene but was located a short time later. Moholland was summonsed for the following alleged crimes and traffic violations; operating under the influence, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, driving to endanger, criminal mischief, violation of conditions of release, failure to report a crash by quickest means, operating after suspension, and failure to yield.
There was no reported personal injury. The F-150 suffered front end damage and the Forester suffered passenger side damage and a flattened tire.

Officer Lukas Keene conducted a detail in Somesville for power line construction.
Judith Mickens, 79, of Bar Harbor, was attempting to park a 2011 Subaru Outback at Malvern Belmont in Bar Harbor when she allegedly pulled in too close to a 2017 Nissan Versa which had been previously parked by Bryce DiMauro, 25, of Bar Harbor. There were no reported injuries. The Outback suffered damage to the driver’s side front door and the Versa suffered front bumper damage.
Officers responded to a complaint of a vehicle in Trenton heading toward\]] MDI that was being operated erratically. The responding officers could not locate the suspect vehicle.
Officer Caleb Mora arrested Benjamin Holmes, 31, of Winter Harbor, in Bar Harbor for an active arrest warrant charging failure to appear. Holmes was also warned for illegal attachment of license plate to a motor vehicle and failure to register a motor vehicle.
Officers were advised of an issue between two people but the two people were able to resolve their issue without law enforcement intervention.
Officer Timothy Frost responded to a complaint of vandalism to a stone wall on Livingston Road in Bar Harbor.
Officer Nathan Formby handled an animal problem in Bar Harbor. The deceased deer was given to someone from the police department’s deer list.

Officer Ted Cake was advised of a citizen dispute in Bar Harbor and was able to handle it by speaking with both parties on the phone.
Lt. Kevin Edgecomb took a report of a tree across the Indian Point Road in Bar Harbor, located the tree, and made Versant aware of the situation.
Officer T. Cake located a tree in the roadway on the Bartlett’s Landing Road in Mount Desert and moved the tree out of the roadway.
Officer Mora responded to a report of debris in the road in Bar Harbor, but it had been removed prior to his arrival.
Officer Formby took a report of a property damage crash in Bar Harbor, but it did not meet the threshold of a reportable accident.
Officer T. Cake responded to a traffic hazard complaint on the Crooked Road in Bar Harbor, located a downed powerline that was not live, and placed a traffic cone around the line.
James Riley, 63, of Bar Harbor, was driving a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country van south on Route 3 in Bar Harbor when a tree fell on it. The vehicle’s passenger was transported to the hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash, and the van was towed because it could no longer be driven.
Officer Formby arrested Nathan Harkins, 40, of Southwest Harbor, for alleged violation of a protection order in Mount Desert.
An officer responded to a report of a downed tree and powerlines on Main Street in Somesville. Versant and the Maine DOT were notified.
A tree fell in Mount Desert, blocking both lanes of travel, and bringing down powerlines. Versant was notified. No other information or disposition was given.
Emergency services were dispatched to a report of a tree and powerlines on fire and a sparking transformer in Mount Desert. No other information or disposition was given.
A Mount Desert resident reported that they heard someone trying to break in to their residence. It was just a family member returning home when they were not expected to return.
Officers provided traffic control during storm cleanup in Bar Harbor.
Officer Formby was advised of a traffic hazard in Mount Desert. The hazard was coned off and the proper agencies were notified.

A Bar Harbor man called the Bar Harbor Police Department to complain about the power being out and the traffic lights not functioning.
Someone made a report of a possible scam on behalf of another person. They reported this to the Bar Harbor Police Department.
Someone requested a property check in Mount Desert.
Someone reported some information to Officer Shelby O’Neil in Bar Harbor.
Officers assisted the Mount Desert Fire Department with a medical call at a Northeast Harbor residence.

Officer T. Cake served paperwork to someone in Mount Desert on behalf of the Town of Mount Desert.
Someone from Bangor called the Bar Harbor Police Department to report some information.
Merrill Ebner, 60, of Bath, Maine, was driving a 2014 Subaru Outback attempting to make a left hand turn from Cottage Street onto Main Street in Bar Harbor. Jherydd Carroll, 35, of Ellsworth, was driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra and was sitting in the intersection, facing south on Main Street when Ebner allegedly continued to try and turn and the car hit Carroll’s vehicle. There was no reported personal injury and both vehicles had disabling damage.
Officer Judson Cake responded to a complaint of a stolen vehicle from Southwest Harbor. The vehicle was supposedly heading to Mount Desert but was located in Southwest Harbor prior to Officer Cake’s arrival in Mount Desert.
Officer J. Cake responded to a report of a disabled vehicle blocking traffic in Bar Harbor but could not locate the vehicle.
Mental Health Liaison Melissa Tozier spoke with someone in Bar Harbor regarding family stressors.
Officer Kaleb Payson did a well-being check on a resident of Mount Desert at the request of another person. The subject of the well-being check was found to be all set.
Officer Troy Stanwood took a report of an erratic driver in Mount Desert, located the suspect vehicle, and did not observe any erratic operation.
After conducting a traffic stop, Officer Stanwood summonsed Vince Lombardi, 18, of Bar Harbor, for alleged attaching false registration plate and for an alleged inadequate windshield in Mount Desert.

Officer Jerrod Hardy located two people who were on private property in Bar Harbor without permission. No other information or disposition was given.
Officer Tim Bland arrested Gordon Falt, 30, in Mount Desert, for an active arrest warrant.
MHL Tozier met with a Bar Harbor community member to assist with housing needs.
Officer T. Cake spoke with someone in Bar Harbor about having their dogs off leash.
Officer O’Neil served a protection order in Bar Harbor.

Someone reported an open door at a Bar Harbor Business. Officers J. Cake and O’Neil contacted the property owner who came and secured the door.
Officer Hardy took a report of a dog having escaped the confines of its house in Bar Harbor. The dog returned home a short time later.

Officer Chris Dickens responded to a report of a possibly malfunctioning generator at a business in Bar Harbor. Upon Officer Dickens’ arrival, the generator was not running, and Officer Dickens noted nothing else of concern.

Someone reported some traffic lights in Bar Harbor were not working and the company that repairs them was notified.
Officer Hardy assisted the Mount Desert Fire Department with a possible heart attack in Mount Desert by transporting a piece of equipment.
Officer O’Neil assisted the Bar Harbor Fire Department with a medical call in Bar Harbor.
Officer Bland responded to a report of an erratic driver in Trenton but could not locate the vehicle.
Officer Stanwood investigated a noise complaint at a Bar Harbor business and determined the complaint to be unsubstantiated.
A Bar Harbor resident reported a suspicious vehicle driving by her residence, but Lt. Edgecomb could not locate the suspicious vehicle.
Officer Stanwood and other officers responded to a report of a domestic assault in Bar Harbor. After investigation, Officer Stanwood arrested Sarah Olkkola, 30, of Bar Harbor for alleged domestic violence aggravated assault, class B. Olkkola was being held at the Hancock County Jail without bail until she could be arraigned.
A motor vehicle complaint was reported to the Bar Harbor Police Department, but no officers were able to respond due to the domestic assault situation above.

Officer Hardy advised the Bar Harbor Wastewater Division of a broken and exposed manhole cover on Main Street near the Old Farm Road in Bar Harbor.
Someone was warned for trespassing and harassment at the request of a Mount Desert resident.
Officer Liam Harrington took a report of a suspicious vehicle in Northeast Harbor. No other information or disposition was given.
Officer Stanwood took a report of a sexual assault that occurred in Bar Harbor. Todd Glista, 64, of Utah, was summonsed for alleged unlawful sexual touching and alleged assault.
Officer Stanwood responded to a report of a possible intoxicated driver in Bar Harbor. He could not locate the suspect vehicle.
Officer Elias Burne took a report of suspicious activity in Bar Harbor, but could not locate anything suspicious.
A lost dog was located in Bar Harbor and picked up by its owner a short time later.
Lt. Edgecomb responded to an open-door complaint in Northeast Harbor, found nothing out of place, and secured the building.
Lt. Edgecomb tried to locate a vehicle on Route 102 in Bar Harbor that was supposedly “all over the road,” but could not locate the suspect vehicle.
Lt. Edgecomb assisted the Maine State Police with locating a man who might have been walking toward Tremont on the Pretty Marsh Road in Mount Desert. The man had allegedly made some concerning statements and was later located in Tremont.
Officer Formby is investigating a reported assault.

Search Is On For Two Missing People After Car Is Swept Away In Flood Waters
On Monday, December 18, 2023, just prior to 5:00 p.m., a vehicle with four people inside was traveling on Route 2 in Mexico, Maine. The driver was trying to cross the Red Bridge into Rumford and had begun to turn around when the vehicle got swept into rising flood waters of the Swift River.
Three occupants were able to get out of the vehicle. Two of those occupants were rescued. The third along and the fourth occupant that were still in the vehicle are currently missing.
The two rescued individuals were transported to Rumford Hospital where they were treated for hypothermia. The Maine Warden Service and the Maine State Police are currently assisting the Mexico Police Department with the search and investigation into the incident. The public is asked to respect road closures and to avoid entering into flooded roadways.
Mexico and the surrounding area has multiple road closures with some residential areas being closed off completely. Boats are being utilized to aid residents who are trapped and in need of assistance. A shelter has been set up at the Mountain Valley High School at 799 Hancock Street in Rumford. The Veterans Bridge from Route 2 to Route 108 is currently still open as well as the Memorial Bridge on Route 108 to Route 2.
