Maine State Police Continues to Investigate Missing Person Case in Washburn
Bar Harbor, Mount Desert, Hancock County Sheriff Police Logs
The Maine State Police continues to investigate the disappearance of 36-year-old Attiin Shaw, of Washburn. Attiin is from Indonesia and had been residing in Washburn with her family since early 2020. Attiin was last known to be living with her husband and four children in Washburn in late 2021. Attiin was reported missing to the Washburn Police Department near the end of 2021 and the state police became involved in early 2023. Investigative efforts have not produced any alternative addresses or indication she is living at another location.
On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, troopers, evidence response technicians, and detectives with Major Crimes Unit North were at Shaw’s residence on Washburn Road as part of their investigation. No additional information about the investigation is being released at this time. Monday, February 12, 2024
A person requested property checks on some residential properties in Bar Harbor. No further information or disposition was given.
Officer Chris Dickens performed a well-being check on a member of the Good Morning Program in Bar Harbor. They found the person to be fine.
Officer Dickens responded to a report of a neighbor’s dog wandering onto the complainant’s property in Bar Harbor. Officer Dickens spoke with the dog owner.
Lt. Kevin Edgecomb provided a ride to someone from MDI Hospital to the person’s home to retrieve a set of keys and then drove them back to the hospital.
Officer Amie Torrey served a subpoena to a Mount Desert resident.
Lt. Edgecomb conducted a well-being check on a Seal Harbor man and found him to be fine.
Officer Elias Burne performed a well-being check in Mount Desert and found the person to be fine.
An officer investigated a motor vehicle compliant in Bar Harbor and determined that the complaint was unfounded.
An officer spoke with a woman from Hampden regarding fraud. No further information or disposition was given.
Officer Torrey performed a well-being check on a Mount Desert woman and found her to be fine.

Someone called the Bar Harbor Police Department and said that they had insurance and were driving around the island recklessly, and then said that they wanted to be pulled over and issued a ticket for not having insurance. Officer Judson Cake could not locate anyone driving around recklessly.
Officer Troy Stanwood conducted a police detail and provided emergency lights for utility work in Somesville.
Officer Caleb Mora conducted a well-being check on a Good Morning Program participant in Bar Harbor. No further information or disposition was given.
Erika Lindquist, 51, of Mount Desert, had legally parked her 2017 BMW X5 on Main Street in Bar Harbor. Gustavo Perez, 37, of Standish, was allegedly driving by Lindquist’s vehicle and stuck her sideview mirror with his 2019 M2106. There were no reported injuries and the damage to Lindquist’s vehicle was minimal.
An officer assisted the Bar Harbor Fire Department at the scene of a medical call.

Someone went into the Bar Harbor Police Department to make a complaint about traffic on Mount Desert Street.
Officer Dickens assisted a Bar Harbor resident with installing a dog run in their yard.
A Bar Harbor resident reported an attempted scam by someone impersonating a police officer.
Thomas Conary Jr., 31, of Trenton, was driving a 2016 International 4000 on Myrtle Avenue in Bar Harbor and attempting to go around a 2016 Toyota RAV4 that had been parked on the side of the road by John Friedlander, 55, of Bar Harbor when Conary allegedly hit the front bumper of the Toyota. There was not reported personal injury and the Toyota suffered front bumper damage.
Officer Ted Cake dropped off some paperwork to someone in Mount Desert on behalf of the Mount Desert Code Enforcement Officer.
Mental Health Liaison Melissa Tozier met with someone in Bar Harbor who has unmet needs.
Someone in Bar Harbor called to report a suspicious vehicle in their neighborhood. No further information or disposition was given.

Officer Kaleb Payson conducted a security check at a business in Mount Desert.
The Bar Harbor Police Department took a report of a possible road rage incident that was occurring in another jurisdiction between two motorists. The two vehicles separated and went their separate ways upon crossing onto Mount Desert Island and no law enforcement action was taken.
Someone reported suspicious activity to Officer T. Cake in Bar Harbor. Extra patrols will be conducted in that area.

Officer Payson spoke with someone in Bar Harbor and provided them with mental health resources.

Officer Jerrod Hardy spoke with two people in Bar Harbor who were complaining about a civil issue.
Security camera footage from the Mount Desert Town Office was burned to a disk by Officer Mike Allen and provided to Mount Desert town officials for a civil violation.
Officer Burne gave someone a ride to the pharmacy in Bar Harbor.
Abigail McAllister, 31, of Gouldsboro, was driving a 2020 Honda Civic south on Route 3 in Bar Harbor when a deer entered the roadway and was allegedly struck by McAllister’s vehicle. There was no reported personal injury and the car suffered damage to the driver’s side front.
Officers responded to a fight at the Barnacle on Main Street in Bar Harbor.

Maine State Police and Fire Marshal’s Office Investigate Shooting and Fire in Minot
On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at approximately at 4:05 a.m., the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint of a disturbance at 1089 Woodman Hill Road in Minot.
Deputies responded to the residence and found the home engulfed in flames. Deputies were in the process of escorting the homeowners from the residence when they were fired upon by a male subject at the end of the driveway. Androscoggin Sergeant Randy Williams, 43, was struck by gunfire as were several vehicles. Androscoggin deputies and Mechanic Falls officers who were responding to the scene confronted the gunman and were able to take him into custody on the roadway at the end of the driveway.
Androscoggin deputies transported Sgt. Williams from the scene directly to Central Maine Medical Center in a sheriff’s cruiser where he is currently being treated for a gunshot wound to his upper right leg. He is expected to survive. The homeowners were not injured.
The gunman has been identified as 42-year-old Corey Hamel, of Minot. Hamel was staying at the residence. Hamel is a prohibited person on probation for three separate counts of violation of conditional release. Hamel was transported from the scene and was later charged with aggravated attempted murder and arson. Hamel will be arraigned on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at Lewiston District Court.
State police and fire marshal investigators were on scene throughout the day and evening to process the scene.
Three Pittsfield Residents Arrested on Drug Charges
On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at approximately 5:30 a.m., troopers from the Central Field Troop executed a search warrant at 693 Canaan Road in Pittsfield. The search resulted in the seizure of 32 grams of cocaine base, 5.5 grams of Fentanyl, Oxycodone, 13lbs of processed marijuana, prescription pills, and firearms. The homeowner, 46-year-old Michael Wyllie was arrested for aggravated trafficking of Fentanyl, cocaine base, and marijuana, possession of schedule W drugs (Oxycodone), four counts of possession of schedule Z drugs, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Forty-three-year-old Jamie Ramsdell, of that address, was arrested for violating conditions of release, unlawful possession of schedule W drugs, Fentanyl, cocaine base, and Suboxone.
Forty-seven-year-old Jennifer Hight, also of that address, was arrested for unlawful possession of schedule W drugs, Fentanyl, and cocaine base.
All three were transported to the Somerset County Jail. Wyllie’s bail was set at $50,000. Ramsdell’s bail was set for $10,000, and Hight’s bail was set for $5,000.
Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating Fatal Fire in Madawaska
On Friday, February 16, 2024, at approximately 12:39 a.m., the Madawaska Fire and Police Departments responded to a fire at 126 5th Avenue where two adults were trapped inside the single-family home. Two police officers who arrived on scene first were able to enter the residence and rescue an adult female. She was taken to Northern Maine Medical Center and later transported via Lifeflight to a hospital in Southern Maine. An adult male was trapped inside the residence and could not be rescued.
The Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and started an investigation. The deceased was located and transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy. The deceased is believed to be 62-year-old Gary Levesque. His sister 70-year-old Diana Levesque was the person who was rescued from the residence. They lived together at the home. The investigation is ongoing but there is no indication of foul play. The two police officers sustained minor injuries while rescuing Levesque. They were treated at a local hospital and released. Madawaska Rescue and the Frenchville Fire Department assisted on scene.
Buckfield Man Arrested for Arson
On Sunday, February 18, 2024, at approximately 2:44 p.m., the Buckfield Fire and Rescue Department responded to a fire at 69 Depot Street in Buckfield. Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s office also responded. The investigation determined that the fire was intentionally set. The homeowner, 46-year-old Clay Jacobs was arrested and charged with arson and was transported to the Oxford County Jail. The Turner, Hebron, Paris, and Sumner Fire Departments assisted on scene.
Maine State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in New Sharon
On Monday, February 19, 2024, at approximately 11:45 a.m., the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 2 in New Sharon. Initial investigation indicates that the driver of a maroon 2007 Ford Focus was pulling out of Tuttle’s Auto Sales to turn left (eastbound) onto Route 2 when the driver of a gray 2022 Dodge Ram was unable to stop, striking the Ford Focus.
The driver of the Ford Focus was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was transported via LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center with critical injuries. The driver of the Dodge Ram, 64-year-old Shawn Dunning, of Jackman was not injured. The name of the deceased and injured passenger are not being released pending notification of next of kin. Route 2 was shut for approximately two hours. The roadway is now clear. The crash remains under investigation.
Maine State Police Assisting Waterville PD With Fatal Shooting
On Monday, February 19, 2024, at approximately 8:10 a.m., the Waterville Police Department responded to a reported shooting outside a residence at 18 South Grove Street in Waterville. As a result of the shooting one person is deceased. A second person was shot at but ultimately, they were not injured. The deceased was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy is expected to be performed tomorrow. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit is assisting the Waterville Police Department with the investigation. There is no danger to the public. Additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
Maine State Police Responds to Erratic Driver/Crashes on I-295 in Freeport
On Monday February 19, 2024, at approximately 4:03 p.m., the Augusta Regional Communications Center started receiving 911 calls regarding a motor vehicle operating erratically on Interstate 295 northbound in Freeport. Trooper Tyler Maloon was north of the offending vehicle and waited for the vehicle to approach.
Trooper Maloon located the vehicle, a Chevy pickup truck at 4:08 p.m., near Exit 22 Northbound on 295. Trooper Maloon attempted to stop the vehicle utilizing his emergency lights and siren but the vehicle failed to stop. Trooper Maloon pursued the vehicle northbound and attempted to separate the offending vehicle from other motorists.
The vehicle came to a stop north of exit 28 on 295 and the male operator was found to be elderly and suffering from a medical/mental health event. An adverse driving report will be filed with the State Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Traffic in the area of mile marker 28 was backed up as a result of the erratic operator and subsequent pursuit. Troopers responded to two separate secondary crashes. The crashes involved 6 total vehicles and there were minor injuries. The road was limited to one lane for approximately 35 minutes while the vehicles were being removed. Assisting on scene was the Brunswick Police and Fire Departments, MaineDOT, Atlantic Coast, and Copp Motors.
Maine State Police Investigating Fatal Crash on Turnpike in Saco
On Monday, February 19, 2024, at approximately 7:17 p.m., the Maine State Police responded to a crash in Saco, at mile marker 37 northbound, involving a tractor-trailer truck and two other vehicles. The initial investigation indicates that the operator of a Volvo S40 sedan, 53-year-old Deirdre Winberg, of West Bath rear-ended a Jeep Compass. The Jeep was operated by 33-year-old Alicia Preston, of Portland. The crash resulted in the Volvo spinning out and coming to a stop in the middle of the three lanes directly in front of a tractor-trailer truck resulting in a significant crash between those two vehicles. The jeep after being rear-ended was able to continue up the roadway stopping safely.
The tractor-trailer truck belonging to, Three Lions Logistics Inc., of Andover Massachusetts, was operated by 36-year-old Norvel Jackson, of Fairburn, Georgia. The tractor-trailer truck ended up through the median guard rail resulting in a closure of all three lanes northbound and the passing lane southbound for several hours. Troopers were able to keep northbound traffic moving in the break-down lane at all times. Winberg suffered critical injuries. She was transported to Maine Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries. Preston was transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer truck was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
Maine State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in York
On Monday, February 19, 2024, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Maine State Police took numerous reports of a single-vehicle crash on the southbound side of the Maine Turnpike in York at mile marker 7. The responding troopers found a 2023 Dodge pickup truck had left the roadway and crashed into the tree line. As a result of the crash the vehicle and several trees caught fire which were extinguished by the York Fire Department.
The Maine Turnpike remained open throughout the investigation with only the right lane closed to protect the emergency personnel on scene. The vehicle was occupied by a driver and no passengers. The driver did not survive the crash. The Maine State Police is working with the Office of Chief Medical Examiner to positively identify the driver. Until the driver is positively identified the name will not be released.
