BAR HARBOR––On Wednesday, June 26, Officer Troy Stanwood responded to a report of a single vehicle crash in Bar Harbor in which the vehicle had left the scene. The crash had occurred at the intersection of Firefly Lane and Kennebec Place. The suspected offending driver and vehicle were able to be located.
According to the weekly police report, Brandon Bermudez, 26, of Norwalk, Connecticut, was driving a 2017 Subaru Impreza south on Kennebec Place when Bermudez’s vehicle allegedly crossed into the oncoming travel lane and struck a high-rise curb adjacent to the Village Green. The vehicle traveled approximately 30 feet along the curb and reentered Kennebec Place at which point Bermudez allegedly fled the scene.
When the vehicle was located at a nearby residence, and after investigation, Bermudez was arrested by Officer Stanwood for alleged operating under the influence, alleged reckless conduct, and alleged failure to report an accident to law enforcement. Bermudez was transported to the Hancock County Jail.
Bermudez was not injured but the vehicle suffered severe front driver’s side corner damage and substantial damage to the undercarriage.

Following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, Officer Troy Stanwood arrested Matthew Fernandez, 28, of Palm Harbor, Florida, for alleged operating under the influence. Fernandez was also issued multiple traffic citations for alleged moving violations.
Someone reported a possible municipal violation to Officer Lukas Keene in Mount Desert.
Officers assisted a tractor trailer with getting turned around on Main Street in Bar Harbor.
Officer Ted Cake searched for two dogs that were reported to be running loose on the Indian Point Road in Bar Harbor but could not locate them.
An officer responded to a Cottage Street business in Bar Harbor for a report of someone sleeping in a vehicle in the business’ parking lot. The person was moved along by the officer.
A man in Bar Harbor reported some items were stolen from his property.
Officer T. Cake located a man in Bar Harbor who had become lost and transported him back to the police station.
An officer responded to the MDI Hospital for the report of a person who had been bitten by an animal.
Officer Amie Torrey had a request to perform a probation check in Mount Desert. No further information or disposition was given.
An officer responded to a parking issue on Cottage Street in Bar Harbor.
Someone called the Bar Harbor Police Department to report some information.
Officer Torrey took a report of a camper illegally parking overnight in Bar Harbor. No further information or disposition was given.
Officer Stanwood responded to a loud noise complaint in Bar Harbor and found it to be unsubstantiated.
Officer Stanwood responded to a complaint of a disorderly patron at a bar in Bar Harbor. The man was issued a no trespass warning for the establishment and given a disorderly conduct warning.

Officer Stanwood made a police report for a business in Bar Harbor that wanted to document a situation where a man was asked to leave for being disorderly.
A Bar Harbor business reported two suspicious men trying to purchase alcohol after the bar had closed. Officer Stanwood contacted the men and made them aware of the Maine State law prohibiting alcohol sales after 1 a.m.
An officer responded to Mount Desert Street in Bar Harbor for a reported parking problem and moved the suspect vehicle along.
Officer T. Cake located a reported loose dog in Somesville and reunited it with its owner.
Officer Caleb Mora received a harassment complaint in Mount Desert and advised the suspected harasser to cease having contact with the complainant.
Someone in Bar Harbor called the Bar Harbor Police Department to speak with their neighbor about the neighbor’s child coming into the complainant’s yard. The complainant said that they did not feel safe speaking with the parent of the child.
An officer responded to a dog in a hot car complaint on West Street in Bar Harbor and found the owner to be returning to their car. No police action was taken.
Sgt. Jerrod Hardy served a temporary protection from abuse order to someone in Bar Harbor.
Officer Mora took a vehicle complaint in Mount Desert. “The parent of the driver was left to handle the complaint,” the report states.
Officer Mora took a complaint of an unattended child in Bar Harbor and discovered that the child was being disciplined. No further information or disposition was given.
Officer Elias Burne responded to a report of a barking dog in Bar Harbor but was unable to locate the offending dog.

After locating a vehicle that was the subject of a motor vehicle complaint in Bar Harbor, Officer Keene issued the driver a citation for alleged failure to maintain proper lane.
Sgt. Soren Sundberg was provided some information in Bar Harbor for documentation purposes.
An officer spoke with a Mount Desert woman regarding a civil matter.
Officer Stanwood provided traffic control for a moving company in Mount Desert.
Someone called the Bar Harbor Police Department to advise the department that their vehicle had broken down, was mostly out of the roadway, and that they had a tow truck on the way to remove the vehicle.
A man from Blandon, Pennsylvania, reported that his cell phone had been stolen to the Mount Desert Police Department. The cell phone was recovered by another agency after having been found in the water by a diver.
An officer responded to Sargeant Drive in Mount Desert for a report of people painting the rock face of Acadia National Park that overlooks Somes Sound. The officer located two people who were volunteers for the park and who were doing preservation work on a plaque.
Sgt. Sundberg assisted someone with locating their vehicle in Bar Harbor.
An officer assisted the Mount Desert Fire Department on a medical call.
Two Bar Harbor residents reported harassment to Officer Kaleb Payson who warned a third Bar Harbor resident for harassment on behalf of the two original complainants.
Officer Judson Cake received a motor vehicle complaint in Bar Harbor but was unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

Mental Health Liaison Melissa Tozier spoke with an individual in Mount Desert and provided them with resources.
Officer Justin Burnett took a report of theft in Bar Harbor after the property had been located in Bucksport.
A boy received medical care after having been bitten by a dog while hiking in Bar Harbor.
Officer Torrey handled a residential burglar alarm in Mount Desert. No further information or disposition was given.

Someone was issued a trespass warning for a Bar Harbor business by Officer Burnett.
Thomas McIntire, 42, of Hall Quarry, was arrested in Mount Desert for alleged violation of conditions of release and alleged refusing to submit to arrest.
Officer Mora arrested Hinson Singleton, 56, of Bar Harbor and Florida, was arrested in Bar Harbor for a failure to appear warrant. Singleton posted bail and was released from the Bar Harbor Police Department.
Officer Payson located a disabled motorist in Mount Desert. The motorist advised that they were all set and should be back underway shortly.

Officer Payson warned four people for drinking in public in Bar Harbor.
Officer Stanwood responded to a noise complaint at a Bar Harbor business and found the complaint to be unsubstantiated.
A Bar Harbor resident reported that their bike was stolen but later called the Bar Harbor Police Department to say that they had found their bike and that no theft had occurred.
Officer Zack Kline responded to a report of a ladder in the middle of the road on Otter Creek Drive in Bar Harbor. When he arrived, Officer Kline found that someone had moved the ladder from the roadway.
Officer Kline assisted the Mount Desert Fire Department with a call regarding a person passed out in a vehicle on the side of the road. The man in the vehicle was fine and denied medical treatment but was allegedly intoxicated and allegedly admitted to driving while intoxicated. Officer Kline charged Lance J. Robert, 29, of East Machias with alleged operating under the influence.
Officers responded to a report of suspicious people in the area of a Prospect Avenue residence in Bar Harbor. Upon arrival, officers could not locate any suspicious people or activity.

Lt. Franklin Burke responded to a notification from an iPhone reporting a crash on Bass Harbor Road in Southwest Harbor. Upon arrival in the area, Lt. Burke could not locate any vehicle or any evidence of a crash.
Lt. Burke was dispatched to assist a Southwest Harbor resident with getting back into her residence after she locked herself out, but she called back and said that she had gotten in prior to his arrival.
Lt. Burke responded to the report of a coffee maker in the roadway in Southwest Harbor, but the coffee maker was gone upon his arrival.
Lt. Burke went to check on a report of a woman sleeping in her car in the parking lot of a Southwest Harbor business but upon arrival discovered that she was just using her cell phone.

A Southwest Harbor resident reported a possible phone scam to Officer James Kamorski. The resident did not lose any money and refused to pay the caller which made the caller very angry.
Officer Bradley Russell spoke with someone at the Southwest Harbor Police Department regarding a civil matter.
Officer Kamorski responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle that had pulled into the complainant’s mother’s driveway. Before Officer Kamorski could arrive, the complaint called back and stated that the vehicle had left and pulled into the driveway of a short-term rental down the street and the complainant said that they had probably just pulled into the wrong driveway by mistake.

A Southwest Harbor resident went to the police department and spoke with Chief John Hall regarding multiple toll violation bills that they had received form the NY/NJ Port Authority that appeared to be sent to the wrong person because the license plate in the picture was not theirs. Chief Hall called the NY/NJ Port Authority who verified that it was a plate reader error and stated that they would clear the violations.
Officer Russell responded to a report of a child walking alone on Main Street but could not locate anyone in the area upon arrival.

Officer Russell assisted the Bar Harbor Police Department with getting four people back to their hotel in Southwest Harbor by meeting a Bar Harbor/Mount Desert police officer at the town line and taking the four people the rest of the way to the hotel.
Officer Kamorski spoke with a Tremont resident regarding an issue that they were having with a house they own in Southwest Harbor and was able to resolve the issue for them.
ACADIA NATIONAL PARK
The following incidents occurred in Acadia National Park last week.
MOUNT DESERT—At approximately 9:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 27, the Acadia National Park rangers and the Bar Harbor Police Department responded to reports of a motor vehicle accident just past the Otter Cove Causeway along the Park Loop Road. The driver and passenger sustained minor injuries and were screened by emergency medical services before rangers investigated the accident. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle before being taken to Hancock County Jail. The incident remains under investigation by the National Park Service.

Maine State Police Investigating an Incident in Norway
NORWAY—On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Maine State Police, Southern Field Troop responded to an incident in Norway. The initial investigation indicates an Oxford Police Department Reserve Officer, 31-year-old Joe Correia of Norway, was off duty and outside his vehicle when he was struck by a vehicle on Crocket Ridge Road in Norway.
After being struck, a physical altercation occurred between the officer and the male suspect who was operating the other vehicle, 29-year-old Michael Carleton of Paris. Carleton was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Oxford County Jail. He was charged with class A aggravated assault and class C reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. Correia was transported to a local hospital where he is having surgery for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is on-going.
