The following incidents occurred in Bar Harbor last week according to the Bar Harbor police log, which is publicly released information.
Monday, May 15, 2023
This is a late report from May 14, 2023 – After conducting a traffic stop, Officer Kaleb Payson arrested Austin Korgan, 34, of Lamoine, for allegedly operating under the influence. Korgan was transported to the Hancock County Jail.
Officer Payson responded to motor vehicle complaint but could not locate the subject vehicle.
Officer Troy Stanwood assisted the fire department on a medical call.
Officer Stanwood responded to a parking complaint, contacted the owner, and the vehicle was moved.
Chief Jim Willis took a request for information. The police department had no information to give in response to the request.
Officer Chris Dickens jumpstarted a vehicle at the owner’s request.
Officer Elias Burne provided two people with a ride to Mount Desert.
Officers responded to a report of erratic operation on Eagle Lake Road.
An officer conducted a well-being check on an individual at the request of another individual.

Vileta Pinkham, 42, of Ellsworth was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue southbound on Main Street when a deer attempted to cross the roadway in front of the vehicle. The vehicle struck the deer, causing reportable damage to the vehicle but no human injury.
Officer Judson Cake stopped to check on a disabled motorist. The vehicle was ultimately towed from the scene.
Officer J. Cake responded to a motor vehicle operation complaint, located and stopped the vehicle, but could find no signs of impairment.
Lauren Jenson, 32, of Herriman, Utah, was operating a 2022 Kia SUV and attempting to make a turn at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and West Street Extension when the vehicle struck the guardrail. There were no reported injuries, but the vehicle suffered reportable damage.
Officer J. Cake received some found property at the police department and placed it into the department’s lost and found.
The police department took a report of a hazardous situation at a construction site and Officer J. Cake spoke with the foreman who stated that they would get a flagger so that the situation was safer.
Officer J. Cake assisted someone with resolving a suspicious situation with their email.
An officer responded to a report of property damage on West Street. A report was taken.
Officer Payson and other officers assisted MDI Hospital with a disorderly patient.

Officer Amie Torrey gave an MDI Hospital patient a ride back to their residence.
Officer Torrey assisted MDI Hospital with an out-of-control patient.
Eli Brown, 21, of Surry, was operating a 2014 Volkswagen eastbound on Route 3 when a deer ran into the roadway. The vehicle struck the deer which caused extensive front end damage to the vehicle. There were no human injuries.
Someone called the police department to report suspicious activity.
An individual called the Harbormaster’s Office and reported a kayak that had been tied up to the Bay Ferries pier.
Officer Stanwood handled a report of a dog bite.
Officer J. Cake performed a motor vehicle stop and issued the operator, Fabian Gaynor, 33, of Trenton, a summons for alleged criminal speeding.
An officer handled a parking complaint at a business on Wayman Lane.
The police department received a delayed report of a theft. The case is under investigation.
Officer Caleb Mora and other officers responded to a business for a report of a fight in progress. As a result of the investigation, Keelan Grover, 19, of Trenton was arrested for alleged domestic violence assault. Grover was also summonsed for alleged refusing to submit to arrest, alleged disorderly conduct, alleged criminal mischief, and alleged minor possessing alcohol. Grover was transported to the Hancock County Jail.

Officer Mora and other officers responded to a business for a report of disorderly conduct. As a result of the investigation, Jennifer Grover, 46, of Trenton, was arrested for alleged aggravated criminal mischief. Grover was also summonsed for alleged domestic violence criminal threatening. Grover was transported to the Hancock County Jail.
Officer Stanwood responded to a complaint of theft and upon investigation determined that no theft had occurred.
A person brought a found cellphone to the police station and the cellphone was retrieved by its owner minutes later.
An individual brought in an out-of-state identification card to the police department.
The police department took a report of an animal carcass in a roadway, and the carcass was removed from the roadway.
Officer Jerrod Hardy took a report of fraud in which an individual had wired money and a picture of their identification to another individual. Officer Hardy advised the victim on steps to take against becoming a fraud victim.
Officer Liam Harrington handled a report of a disorderly subject in town.

Officer Stanwood received a report of a motor vehicle making bad passes in Trenton and heading toward Bar Harbor. Officer Stanwood located the suspect vehicle, performed a traffic stop, and warned the driver for their operation.
A person turned in some found property to the police department.
Officer Stanwood responded to a medical call.
Officer Tim Bland performed a well-being check on an individual.
Edward Tarasov, 79, of Maine was operating a 2018 Subaru and was backing out of a parking stall at Hannaford’s and allegedly struck a parked 2017 Ford last operated by Jillian Waugh, 25, of Colorado. There was minor damage to both vehicles.
The police department assisted in the delivery of a final paycheck to a person who had recently been fired from their place of employment.
Officer Stanwood responded to a motor vehicle complaint regarding a vehicle that was speeding and being operated erratically. Officer Stanwood stopped the suspect vehicle and warned the driver for their operation.
Officer Stanwood took a report of a vehicle that was tailgating another vehicle. Officer Stanwood was able to catch up with the vehicle owner later and warn them for their operation.
The police department received a motor vehicle complaint but officers were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.
Officer Mora responded to a motor vehicle complaint but was unable to locate the suspect vehicle.
Officer Harrington assisted the fire department on a medical call.

Officer Mora located Jason Locke, 41, of Bar Harbor, whom Officer Mora knew to have an active warrant for his arrest. Officer Mora arrested Locke for the warrant and summonsed him for alleged refusing to submit to arrest and alleged failure to provide correct name, date of birth, and address. Locke was transported to the Hancock County Jail.
A found wallet was turned in to the police department.
Shawn Michaud, 19, of Trenton was operating a 2011 GMC Acadia southbound on Route 3 and attempted to make a left-hand turn into the Mainly Meat parking lot. Michaud allegedly turned in front of a 2017 Jeep Wrangler operated by Victoria Jipson, 54, of Surry. The passenger in Michaud’s vehicle complained of right knee pain and Jipson complained of pain in both elbows. Nobody was transported to the hospital. Both vehicles sustained damage and Michaud’s vehicle was towed from the scene.
A person brought a small bag that they had found, and which contained recently purchased items, to the police department.
A vehicle broke down on the sandbar to Bar Island and had to be removed by a tow truck.
An officer conducted a well-being check on a person and they were found to be all set.
The police department received multiple complaints of gunshots in the area of Frenchman’s Hill Road, but officers could not locate the source of the noise.
Officer Chris Dickens responded to a request from the Ellsworth Police Department to try and locate a vehicle that had been involved in a hit and run incident. The vehicle was not located.

Officer Dickens assisted an individual who stated that they were being harassed on social media.
Officer Mora passed information on to another law enforcement agency.
Officers responded to a report of a possible fight at a local apartment complex and found it to be only verbal in nature.
Bridget Dempsey, 22, of Wisconsin, was operating a 2001 Subaru Legacy westbound on Eagle Lake Road and stopped the vehicle for a turtle that was in the roadway. Mai Ishimura, 16, of Bar Harbor, was operating a 2018 Toyota Camry and was also heading west, behind Dempsey’s vehicle. Ishimura allegedly could not stop in time and their vehicle struck the rear of Dempsey’s vehicle. There were no reported injuries and both vehicles suffered moderate damage with Ishimura’s vehicle having airbag deployment.
Officer Hardy took a report of a motor vehicle being operated erratically on Cottage Street but could not locate the suspect vehicle.
A loose dog was brought to the police department where it was reunited with its owner a short time later.
Officer Hardy responded to a report of a dog running loose around Route 3 but could not locate the dog.
Officer Hardy received a report of erratic operation on Route 3, located the suspect vehicle, and performed a traffic stop. The operator was operating with a learner’s permit and was trying to get experience. They did have a licensed passenger of the appropriate age with them.
Officer Hardy warned a man for sleeping in public for sleeping in the Village Green at midnight. The man was moved along.

Officer Hardy warned a man, who was sleeping in the Village Green at midnight, for sleeping in public and moved the man along.
Officer Harrington assisted the fire department with a medical call.
While operating a police-department-owned 2021 Ford F-150, Officer Harrington was attempting to back up and turn around while towing one of the department’s speed alerting trailers. Officer Harrington, 25, of Bar Harbor, turned the trailer sharply and it struck the taillight cover of the police vehicle and put a hole in it. There were no reported injuries.
Officer Harrington assisted an individual, at their request, with settling an employer-employee dispute.
Lt. Kevin Edgecomb responded to a reported dog bite. The case is under investigation.
Lt. Edgecomb is investigation the theft of redeemable bottles and cans from a donation site.
Matthew Ferreira, 22, of Castine, was operating a 2006 Toyota Prius and turning left from Ledgelawn Avenue onto Mount Desert Street. Michael Perlman, 40, of Bar Harbor was on rollerblades and was heading east on Mount Desert Street and according to the police report was allegedly rollerblading fast and erratically, and allegedly attempted to pass three motor vehicles that were stopped in traffic on Mount Desert Street. Ferreira allegedly did not see Perlman and the two collided. The vehicle sustained no damage, Ferreira was not injured, and Perlman was transported to MDI Hospital with a broken leg.
Officer Ted Cake took a report of a dog running loose but could not locate the dog.
Officer Torrey transported a juvenile to the MDI Hospital emergency room for a mental health evaluation.
A man went to the police department to report that his dog was missing. The dog was located a short time later.
A woman turned a wallet that she had found in the Village Green in to the police department.
A man turned in a wallet that he had found at the ANP Cadillac Mountain Entrance to the police department.
An officer made contact with a transient individual who was reported to have been sleeping in the Village Green. The subject was provided with resources and moved along from the green.
Officer Harrington took a report of a disorderly male at the College of the Atlantic.
