Mount Desert Man Arrested Again, Six Days After Last Week's Arrest

OTTER CREEK—According to the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Department press release, Vincent Abbott, 51, of Otter Creek, who was arrested for alleged burglary and alleged criminal mischief on January 3, 2025 was arrested again on January 9.
Officer Troy Stanwood arrested Abbott on an 11-count active arrest warrant stemming from an investigation by the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Department. At the time of the January 9 arrest, Abbott was also charged with alleged unlawful possession of a scheduled drug (class D) and alleged violation of conditions of release.
Abbott was transported to the Hancock County Jail.

Following a traffic stop in Mount Desert, Andrew Grier, 26, of Mount Desert was summonsed for alleged criminal speed (30 or more mph over the posted speed limit).
MHL Tozier spoke to someone in Bar Harbor about grief.
Officer Stanwood received a late report of an incident that occurred at a job site in Northeast Harbor.
William Rand, 75, of Clifton, was driving a 2022 Chevrolet G27D bus north on Main Street in Bar Harbor when he allegedly struck a 2017 Mazda CX-5 that had been legally parked on the east side of Main Street by Zachary Lanning, 32, of Ellsworth. There was no personal injury. The bus suffered no damage and the Mazda suffered driver’s side mirror and fender damage.
Officer Stanwood assisted a motorist with a disabled vehicle in Bar Harbor.
Matthew Vanwormer-Lagrange, no age given, of Mount Desert was driving a 2022 Subaru Outback west on Pretty Marsh Road in Mount Desert when he allegedly failed to maintain control of the vehicle and struck a tree. Vanwormer-Lagrange was transported to the hospital for an evaluation. The vehicle sustained significant damage to the front of the vehicle and was towed by DC Towing. Upon his release from the hospital, Vanwormer-Lagrange was arrested for alleged operating under the influence and was additionally charged with alleged operating after suspension. Vanwormer-Lagrange was transported to the Hancock County Jail.

Officer Amie Torrey received a complaint of a scam involving someone’s laptop in Mount Desert. The complainant did not lose anything, including personal information.

Officer T. Cake took some information regarding suspicious activity from someone in Mount Desert.
Officer T. Cake took a report of a suspicious email that was most likely a scam from someone in Mount Desert and advised the complainant not to engage with the sender.
Someone in Bar Harbor provided Officer Stanwood some information.
Officer Kaleb Payson performed a requested well-being check on someone in Mount Desert and found them to be all set.

Following a traffic stop in Southwest Harbor, Sgt. Ryan Blakeney summoned Michael Gott, 55, of Tremont, for alleged operating with an expired license that has been expired for more than 90 days.
Sgt. Blakeney responded to a residential burglar alarm in Southwest Harbor and found that it had been set off by an authorized contractor.

Officer James Kamorski responded to a report of someone “nodding off” in their vehicle in Bass Harbor but could not locate any people or vehicles in the area.
Someone reported some drug paraphernalia on the ground in a busy public area in Tremont. Officer Kamorski retrieved the paraphernalia and properly disposed of it. Officer Kamorksi also searched the area for any additional paraphernalia.
Officer Bradley Russell is investigating a report of someone in Tremont violating their conditions of release.

Sgt. Blakeney responded with the Southwest Harbor Tremont Ambulance Service to a report of an elderly person laying in a ditch alongside a Southwest Harbor roadway. The person was transported to the hospital.
Sgt. Blakeney received and documented a late report of a motor vehicle crash in Southwest Harbor.
Someone called the Southwest Harbor Police Department and reported that they had lost a license plate in case anyone found it.
Sgt. Blakeney arrested Gregory Harper, 41, of Tremont, in Tremont, for an active arrest warrant. Harper was also charged with alleged violation of conditions of release. Harper was transported to the Hancock County Jail.
The Southwest Harbor Police department received a request from another agency to assist with locating a missing person. Sgt. Blakeney located the missing person in Southwest Harbor and notified the requesting agency.

Officer Kamorski investigated an unattended death in Southwest Harbor and determined that it was from natural causes.
After receiving a complaint of erratic motor vehicle operation in Southwest Harbor, Officer Kamorski was able to locate the suspect vehicle at the registered owner’s residence. Officer Kamorski spoke with the operator and determined that they were not intoxicated.

Officer Kamorski responded to a report of an alarm going off at a Southwest Harbor water pump shed. Officer Kamorski confirmed the alarm and notified the appropriate town departments.

Maine State Police Investigating Body Found in Edgecomb
EDGECOMB—On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a hunter who discovered an adult deceased male near the Schmid Land Preserve on Old County Road in Edgecomb. Detectives with the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Central responded to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. The deceased was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy was performed. The deceased was identified as 34-year-old William Nathaniel Robinson of Austinville, Virginia. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta had determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide. Robinson had been recently staying at a home in Edgecomb.
The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Central have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of Robinson, whose body was discovered inside a trash barrel in the Schmid Preserve on the Old County Road in Edgecomb on December 3, 2024.
Following an investigation, detectives executed a search warrant at 57 Conant Road in Turner on December 12, 2024, where evidence discovered at the location linked 26-year-old Luke Krott of Edgecomb to the murder, and an arrest warrant was issued for him. Krott, who had been staying with his parents in Edgecomb, had left the state but with the help of the San Diego Police Department’s Fugitive Task Force, FBI, and the U.S. Marshals Service Krott was located Monday evening, January 6, 2025, on a sailboat at a marina in San Diego, California.
Krott is currently being held at the San Diego Central Jail on a fugitive from justice charge pending the extradition process to Maine, where he will face a murder charge. The Maine State Police would like to thank our local and federal law enforcement partners for their assistance in locating and apprehending Krott. This is an active and ongoing investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating Tent Fire in Skowhegan
SKOWHEGAN—On Monday, January 6, 2025, at 9:02 p.m., at the request of the Skowhegan Fire Department, the Maine Fire Marshals Office (FMO) responded to 61 Russell Road in Skowhegan for a report of a tent fire. Fire investigators were notified that two individuals sustained burn injuries. Those injured were evaluated and transported to Reddington Fairview Hospital where they currently remain hospitalized.
Fire investigators found that a leaking propane tank inside the tent ignited, resulting in a flash fire, destroying the tent and its contents. The FMO is not releasing the names of those involved at this time. The fire is considered accidental.
Arrests Made in Steuben Vehicle Arson Case
STEUBEN—The Office of the State Fire Marshal has made multiple arrests following an investigation into a motor vehicle fire that occurred on October 13, 2024, on Pinkham Bay Bridge Road in Steuben.
The fire, determined to be arson, led to the arrest of 30-year-old Cameron Brown of Steuben shortly after the incident. Brown was charged with arson and theft and transported to the Hancock County Jail.
As the investigation continued, fire marshal investigators identified additional suspects. On January 8, 2025, 38-year-old William Smeal and 37-year-old Taylor Keene were arrested at their residence in Ellsworth. Keene was identified as the owner of the vehicle involved in the October fire. Both Smeal and Keene were transported to the Hancock County Jail. Smeal and Keene were both charged with arson (class A), criminal conspiracy (class B), and criminal attempt (class C insurance deception). The investigation remains ongoing. Maine State Police Investigating Child Death in Penobscot County
CORINNA—On Sunday, January 12, 2025, at approximately 8:28 a.m., the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call from a residence on the Exeter Road in Corinna. The caller was reporting that her three-year-old nephew was missing from the family residence. The child was later found by his father, a distance from the family residence, outside in the snow. Law enforcement officers and EMS responded to the scene.
Regretfully, the male child succumbed to injuries which appear to be consistent with exposure to the elements. Members of the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North responded and are responsible for investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. The Maine State Police was assisted by members of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Health and Human Services who worked throughout the day on the investigation.
The deceased was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death. The Maine State Police believes this is an isolated incident and there is no public safety concerns. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating Intentionally Set Fire in Winslow
WINSLOW—On Monday, January 13, 2025, at 11:43 p.m., the Winslow Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a home at 328 Abbott Road in Winslow. The fire department requested the Fire Marshal’s Office conduct an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire.
Fire investigators responded to the scene and determined that the fires were intentionally set. The sole occupant of the home, identified as 40-year-old Joseph Forestell was taken into protective custody by Winslow Police and transported to a local hospital for an evaluation. The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
