BAR HARBOR—On September 14 at approximately 5:06 p.m., Bar Harbor Police and Fire Departments responded to a reported motorcycle and car crash on Route 3 in Hulls Cove in the area of Ocean Avenue.
Jesse MacDonald, 22, of Mount Desert was operating a 2020 Yamaha motorcycle and heading north on Route 3 when he allegedly crossed the centerline into the oncoming lane and struck a 2011 Toyota RAV4 that was being driven by Nathan Terrasi, 18, of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
According to the police department press release, Terrasi attempted to avoid MacDonald by shifting into the outer southbound travel lane but MacDonald allegedly struck the rear driver’s side door of the Toyota and was ejected from his motorcycle. MacDonald then skidded on the roadway into a ditch and the initial impact caused the Toyota to spin around and strike the guardrail of the southbound lane.
MacDonald was transported by a Bar Harbor ambulance to the MDI Hospital for what were described by the press release as minor leg injuries. Terrasi and his passenger did not have any injuries. The motorcycle was considered a total loss and the Toyota was towed due to disabling damage to the driver’s side and airbag deployment.
At the hospital, MacDonald received criminal summonses for; alleged operating under the influence, alleged reckless conduct, and alleged driving to endanger. MacDonald also received traffic violation summonses for alleged leaving lane of travel unsafely and alleged imprudent speed.

An officer responded to the Seal Harbor Beach area to check the welfare of someone believed to be in the area, but the person could not be located.
Someone provided information to the Bar Harbor Police Department.
Officer Stanwood responded to the Conners Emerson School in Bar Harbor for an automated 911 call from the school elevator. It was determined that the button was pressed accidentally.
Someone brought a dog to the Bar Harbor Police Department that was found near Norway Drive in Bar Harbor. The dog’s picture was posted on the police department’s social media page and the dog was reunited with its owner. Â
A Mount Desert resident reported that someone unknown to them dropped off property on their lawn.
Officer Harrington took a report of a tree in the roadway in Mount Desert. No further information or disposition was given.
Officer Zack Kline responded to a noise complaint in Bar Harbor, but the noise had stopped by the time he arrived. Officer Kline told the complainant to call again if the noise started up again.

Following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, Officer Burnett arrested Daniel Doughty, no age given, of Massachusetts, for alleged operating under the influence. Doughty was transported to the Hancock County Jail.
Officer Kline assisted a resident with getting home from the hospital in Bar Harbor.
Officer Kline responded to a motor vehicle complaint on Route 102 in Bar Harbor but could not locate the suspect vehicle.
Officer Amie Torrey received a report of damage to a car port in Mount Desert. No further information or disposition was given.
Officer Torrey received a report of harassment in Mount Desert. No further information or disposition was given.
A Bar Harbor business called the police department and reported some information that they wanted on file to Officer Ted Cake.
Sgt. Soren Sundberg was given some information regarding a Bar Harbor business.
Officer Kaleb Payson attempted to locate a reportedly suspicious person in Bar Harbor but could not locate the person.
Officer T. Cake helped someone change a flat tire on a rental vehicle in Bar Harbor.
Officers responded to the area of Route 3 and Seabury Drive in Bar Harbor for an automated crash report via a cellphone but could not locate a crash. The owner later reported that they had lost their phone and it had been run over by a car.
An officer responded to the Crooked Road in Bar Harbor for a motor vehicle complaint but could not locate the suspect vehicle.
Officer T. Cake handled a barking dog complaint in Bar Harbor. The owner of the dog was located and made aware of the complaint. Â
Newton A. Ferguson, 40, of Brunswick, Georgia, was arrested in Bar Harbor on an arrest warrant for failure to appear in court. Ferguson was transported to the Hancock County Jail. Â
Officer Judson Cake warned a man in Mount Desert for disorderly conduct.

Officer Mora responded to a motor vehicle complaint in Bar Harbor but was unable to locate the suspect vehicle due to a lack of description by the reporting party.
Officer Mora took a report of contractors blocking a roadway in Bar Harbor. The roadway was opened up as soon as emergency repairs were made.
Following a motor vehicle stop in Bar Harbor, Terry Grunwald, 59, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, was summonsed for alleged failure to register a motor vehicle.
A tourist asked the Bar Harbor Police Department to store some of their property while they traveled internationally.
Officer Stanwood took a report of someone throwing trash out of their vehicle’s window while driving on Route 3 in Bar Harbor, but he was unable to locate the suspect vehicle.
An officer responded to Whitney Farm Road in Mount Desert for a reported traffic hazard and upon arrival found a Spectrum worker completing some line work and packing up for the day. Â
Officer Stanwood helped the Mount Desert Fire Department with a lift assist.

Officer Burnett responded to a report of an intoxicated man wandering lost in Bar Harbor. The man was returned to his hotel.
Officers responded to a report of a man passed out behind the wheel of his car at the intersection of Indian Point Road and Bartlett’s Landing Road in Mount Desert, but the vehicle was gone upon arrival and they were not able to locate it.
Tammie Grant, 53, of Franklin, Maine, was driving a 2012 Chevy Silverado on Sound Drive in Mount Desert when the Silverado left the roadway and struck a bridge railing. There was no reported injury. The truck was towed because the front passenger’s side tire was torn off and the airbags deployed.
A woman reported illegal campers on the property of a residence on Route 3 in Bar Harbor. A police report was taken. Â
Officers responded to a report of someone being threatened with a firearm in Northeast Harbor. As a result of investigation, Casey Pearson, 36, of Wilton Manors, Florida, was arrested for alleged aggravated criminal mischief and transported to the Hancock County Jail.
Officer Kline responded to a report of someone in Bar Harbor making suicidal statements. Upon arrival, Officer Kline learned that a verbal domestic had occurred and the statements were made in the heat of the moment and the person was not suicidal. The parties were separated for the night.

Someone reported a suspicious vehicle near a playground in Seal Harbor, but the vehicle was gone upon officer arrival.
Officer Mora assisted another law enforcement agency with making contact with a Mount Desert resident.
In the early evening in Bar Harbor, Officer Burnett received a complaint regarding a motor vehicle with no headlights on . No further information or disposition was given.

Officer Ryan Blakeney responded to a report of an injured deer in a roadway in Southwest Harbor but could not locate the deer.
Chief John Hall responded to a report of an elderly woman walking in the middle of the road with two canes in Southwest Harbor. Upon arrival, Chief Hall found her to be okay and off to the side of the road.
Chief Hall performed a well-being check on an elderly man in Southwest Harbor and found him to not be home. While Chief Hall was at the residence, the man’s mother arrived to collect some of the man’s belongings and told Chief Hall that the man was in the hospital.
Chief Hall responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at the neighboring house of the caller in Southwest Harbor. Chief Hall arrived and learned that the vehicle belonged to the other neighbor and there was nothing suspicious occurring.

Officer Blakeney responded to a report of someone passed at out the wheel of their vehicle at a Southwest Harbor business. Upon arrival, Officer Blakeney learned that the person was just leaning over and using their phone and that they were leaving.
Someone in Southwest Harbor reported a check scam to Officer Blakeney and said they had been given a local address. The report is under investigation.

Chief Hall responded to Tremont for a report of an elderly male needing assistance. The man suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and Chief Hall was able to locate the man’s residence and spouse and get him home without incident.
Chief Hall took a report of an injured fawn on the side of the road in Southwest Harbor. The fawn was deceased upon arrival of the Chief and the Southwest Harbor Highway Department removed it.

Officer Russell received a report of an erratic driver heading towards Southwest Harbor from Somesville. No further information or disposition was given.
Officer Russell took a report from someone in Southwest Harbor regarding ongoing harassment where the suspect is constantly calling the complainant’s phone. Officer Russell informed the complainant of their options and will be speaking with the suspect.
Officer Russell responded to a complaint from a Southwest Harbor business regarding a person who was outside of the business and yelling at themselves. Officer Russell failed to locate anyone fitting the given description.

Officer Russell responded to Tremont for a complaint of a suspicious person outside of the complainant’s Airbnb. Officer Russell checked the area around the residence and could not locate anyone.
Officer Blakeney responded to Tremont to conduct a well-being check on someone who had wandered away from home and into the woods. Officer Blakeney was able to locate the person and get them back home where a family member picked them up.
Officer Blakeney responded to Tremont for a report of someone who was feeling ill, not using their oxygen, or taking their medication. Officer Blakeney was able to get the person to agree to go to the hospital for care.

Maine State Police Continues to Investigate Fatal Crash on Interstate in Augusta
AUGUSTA—On Friday, September 13, 2024, at approximately 3:09 p.m., traffic was stopped southbound on I-95 in the city of Augusta due to a construction zone lane closure. In the area of exit 113, where vehicles were stopped in traffic, a 2019 Ford pickup truck rear-ended a 2024 Toyota SUV, which led to a five-vehicle crash.
A female passenger of the SUV, was pronounced deceased at the scene, as was a dog in the vehicle. The female passenger was 68-year-old Sari Ohmart, of Brewer. The driver of the SUV was her husband 70-year-old Leslie Ohmart, of Brewer. He was transported to Maine General Hospital in Augusta with non-life-threatening injuries. Â
The driver of the 2019 Ford pickup truck was 28-year-old Robin Carter, of Limerick. He was transported to Maine General in Augusta with non-life- threatening injuries. Every other injury in the crash was also non-life threatening. Those individuals were transported to Maine General Hospital in Augusta.
All five vehicles were towed from the scene by Dostie’s Towing. Maine State Police Troop I was assisted by MSP Troop G (Turnpike), MSP Central Field Troop, MSP Traffic Safety Division, the Augusta Fire Department, Maine DOT, Maine DEP, and a law enforcement specialist with the Department of Homeland Security Federal Protective Service (he was in the area at the time). Traffic was diverted off exit 113 during the road closure. The crash remains under investigation.
Maine State Police Investigating Body Found in Falmouth
FALMOUTH—On Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11:49 a.m., the Falmouth Police Department responded to the Presumpscot River adjacent to Falmouth’s Walton Park for a report of a suspicious object. The object was determined to be the body of a deceased adult male. Â
The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South responded to investigate. The deceased was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy was performed. Positive identification of the deceased as well as manner and cause of death are pending at this time. There is no known danger to the public. Anyone with any information is asked to call Major Crimes South at 207.624.7076.
HANCOCK COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

Hancock County Sheriff’s Department investigating Serious Crash in Surry
SURRY—On September 10, 2024, at approximately 10:49 p.m., the Hancock Regional Communications Center (RCC) received a call reporting a single vehicle crash on Route 172 (Surry Road) in Surry. At that time, it was reported that the vehicle had sustained significant damage and that the lone occupant in the vehicle was unconscious.
Through an investigation it was determined that Geoffrey Starkey, 41, of Prosper, Texas, was traveling north on Route 172 (Surry Road) in Surry while driving a 2023 Cadillac CT4. Starkey was traveling at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a turn in the roadway.
Starkey’s vehicle left the roadway, struck the ditch, and became airborne as it rolled through the air before coming to a rest in the Surry Store parking lot. Starkey was transported to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital before being transported by LifeFlight to Northern Light Eastern Maine Hospital in critical condition. Speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors to the crash.
The primary investigating officer is Deputy Kamren Jennings. Deputy Jennings was assisted by Deputy Alan Medina and Sgt. Marcus Downes of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office. They were assisted on scene by Peninsula Ambulance Corps, Surry Fire Department, and Dave’s Towing. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
