False 911 Call Leads to Arrest of New York Man
ADDISON, MAINE––On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, shortly after 8 p.m., the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a male inside an East Side Road home in the Town of Addison. The caller reported that shots were being fired and that people were actively attempting to inflict bodily harm on the caller.
Washington County Sheriff Deputies responded and established a perimeter outside the residence and were able to call a male out of the house, who they subsequently identified as 40-year-old Andres Rivera of Lynbrook, New York. After further investigation, it was determined that Rivera was the individual who made the 911 call.
While speaking with Rivera, deputies became concerned about the wellbeing of an individual inside the home and made entry into the residence. Once inside, deputies located an unresponsive female and administered several doses of Narcan. The female was subsequently transported to a hospital by ambulance. No further information about her condition is available at this time.
Based upon information gathered by Washington County Sheriff Deputies, investigators from MDEA’s Downeast Task Force, which covers Washington and Hancock Counties, obtained a search warrant based upon the belief that there were illegal drugs inside the East Side Road address. During the search, agents and deputies seized two (2) loaded 9mm handguns, suspected fentanyl, and crack cocaine with an estimated street value of $3500 and $1700 in suspected drug proceeds.
Following the search, Rivera was taken into custody and charged with class A, aggravated trafficking in schedule W drugs (fentanyl and cocaine) and the class D offense of filing a false public report as it was determined that Rivera made up the story about shots being fired when he phoned 911.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) assisted in this investigation.
The MDEA stands committed to working with all federal, state, county, and local law enforcement partners in order to continue to identify and disrupt drug trafficking organizations who are attempting to distribute illicit drugs like fentanyl and methamphetamine in the State of Maine. This investigation is continuing, and more arrests are likely.
If you suffer with substance use disorder, please call 211 or text your zip code to 898-211 for a list of resources available in your area.
If you have information about this investigation or the illegal sale of drugs in your community, you are urged to contact the Maine Drug Enforcement office closest to you or by texting MDEA to TIP411 (847411) or by calling the MDEA tip-line at 1-800-452-6457.
