BAR HARBOR AND MOUNT DESERT POLICE LOGS
The following incidents occurred in Bar Harbor and Mount Desert last week according to the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Department police logs, which is publicly released information.
On Wednesday, January 15, a pedestrian was walking on Roberts Avenue in Bar Harbor when they were struck by a vehicle backing out of a driveway. According to the report by Officer Theodore Cake, the vehicle fled the scene and was not located. The pedestrian was taken to MDI Hospital by a friend and later discharged and “advised they had no injuries.”

Officer Kaleb Payson gave someone a ride home in Bar Harbor.
Someone provided the Bar Harbor Police Department with some information.
The Bar Harbor Police Department received a complaint regarding an animal problem. No further information or disposition was given.
Officer Caleb Mora issued a no trespass warning to someone in regards to a property in Northeast Harbor.
Sgt. Chris Dickens fingerprinted someone for their employment purposes in Bar Harbor.
Officer O’Neil assisted the Bar Harbor Fire Department with locating a reported fire in Bar Harbor.
Someone provided the Bar Harbor Police Department with some information.
After speaking with someone regarding parked vehicle congestion on Main Street in Bar Harbor, Sgt. Dickens is reviewing the issue.

Officer Shelby O’Neil turned some items over to the MDI Hospital for disposal.
Following a traffic stop in Mount Desert, Officer Mora summoned Aaron Kimball, 20, of Isleford, for alleged criminal speed (30 or more mph over the posted speed limit).
Officer Zack Kline documented an incident that occurred at a Bar Harbor residence but took no police action.
Officer Payson received a late report of an assault in Mount Desert and after investigating determined that no crime had occurred.
Officer Payson responded to a trespassing complaint in Mount Desert and issued someone a no trespass warning.

Lt. Kevin Edgecomb gave someone a ride home in Bar Harbor.
Mental Health Liaison Melissa Tozier spoke with someone in Bar Harbor about resources for a housing crisis.
Sgt. Soren Sundberg received information in Bar Harbor regarding a possible crime that took place in another jurisdiction and he passed the information on to the appropriate agency.
Sgt. Jerrod Hardy checked on the well-being of someone in Bar Harbor. No further information or disposition was given.
Officer Nathan Formby received a motor vehicle complaint in Bar Harbor, but the vehicle was already out of Bar Harbor’s jurisdiction and the complaint was passed on to another agency.
Officer Justin Burnett took a report of a dispute between residents in Bar Harbor.

While performing a requested well-being check in Mount Desert, Officer Liam Harrington arrested Riley Farnsworth, 30, of Bar Harbor, for alleged operating under the influence.
Officer Mora transported a Bar Harbor woman to her residence from a medical facility in Bar Harbor.
In Bar Harbor, MHL Tozier assisted with getting someone to the emergency room. That person was experiencing a mental health crisis .
After a woman brought an injured turkey to the Mount Desert Police Department, Lt. Edgecomb was able to get in touch with Acadia Wildlife and the woman took the turkey there. On Tuesday, January 21, Ann Rivers of Acadia Wildlife said that the turkey was not rehabilitatable and that it had suffered a broken spine, leg, and wing.
Vernon McFarland Jr., 87, of Bar Harbor, was backing his 2017 Toyota Highlander into a parking space at Hannaford’s in Bar Harbor when he allegedly struck a 2023 Toyota RAV4 that had been legally parked by Burton Haggett, 83, of Bar Harbor. There were no reported injuries and both vehicles suffered minor damage.
Officer Mora stood by in Bar Harbor at a property while a previous employee removed their belongings.
After receiving a report of an alarm going off in Northeast Harbor, Officer O’Neil located an old smoke detector in the back of a truck.
Someone called the Bar Harbor Police Department to document an incident that occurred in the beginning of the month.

Officer Kline assisted another agency with getting paperwork signed in Bar Harbor.
Officer Judson Cake assisted the Mount Desert Fire Department after a man drove a U-Haul truck onto the ice on echo Lake and broke through.
Sgt. Doug Brundrett assisted a member of the Good Morning Program in Bar Harbor at the member’s request.
The Bar Harbor Police Department received a report of a possible house fire in Bar Harbor. The fire department and officers responded and determined that there was no active fire.

Officer Stanwood performed a VIN number inspection in Bar Harbor for a tow company.
Officer Formby took a report of a non-reportable crash in Bar Harbor.
Riley Swanson, 26, of Trenton, was driving a 2017 Audi and turning out of a driveway onto Osprey Lane in Mount Desert. The vehicle slid across the roadway and struck a tree. There was no reported injury and the Audi suffered front-end damage.
Officer Formby assisted the Bar Harbor Highway Division with getting vehicles moved off the roadway for snow removal in Bar Harbor.
Following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, two minors were issued civil summonses and released.
SOUTHWEST HARBOR AND TREMONT
The following incidents occurred in Southwest Harbor or Tremont last week according to the Southwest Harbor Police Department police log, which is publicly released information.

Sgt. Blakeney responded to a burglar alarm at a Southwest Harbor business. It was determined to be a false alarm and his response was canceled.
Officer Bradley Russell took a report from someone in Southwest Harbor that they had loaned their vehicle to someone who was refusing to return it. After investigating the situation, Officer Russell determined that it was a civil matter.
Officer Russell assisted someone in Southwest Harbor with getting back into their residence.

Sgt. Blakeney responded to a residential burglar alarm in Southwest Harbor and upon arrival was able to determine that the people that were at the residence were authorized to be there.
Officer Bradley Russell was on his way to a business burglar alarm in Southwest Harbor when the alarm company called back and told him to disregard the alarm.
Officer Bradley Russell performed a well-being check on someone in Southwest Harbor and found the person to be fine.

Officer Kamorski responded to a medical call in Southwest Harbor at the request of EMS personnel to assist with making entry into the house. The EMS personnel had been able to gain access prior to Officer Kamorski’s arrival.
Officer Russell responded to a report of a vehicle speeding on a Southwest Harbor road with its hazard lights flashing. Officer Russell was unable to locate the vehicle.

Officer Kamorski responded to a Southwest Harbor residence at the request of EMS personnel to help gain access to the residence after receiving a medical alert call. Officer Kamorski was able to gain access and the resident was found to be okay.
Someone brought some drug paraphernalia that they had found at a “well known spot” in Southwest Harbor to the police station and Officer Kamorski disposed of it properly.
Officer Kamorksi received a dog complaint from a Tremont resident and passed the information along to Tremont’s animal control officer.
Officer Kamorski is investigating a report of vandalism in Tremont.

Maine State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Sidney
SIDNEY—On Thursday, January 16, 2025, at approximately 7:01 a.m., troopers from Troop I responded to I-95 southbound for the report of a motor vehicle crash. A white Nissan pickup was reported to be into the trees in the median. Upon arrival, troopers determined the operator, 69-year-old Philip Marson, of Gardiner, to be deceased.
There were no other occupants in the vehicle. The crash is still under investigation; however, speed appears to be a factor. The Sidney Fire Department and Ready Road Tow Service assisted on scene.
Maine State Police Investigating Crash on Turnpike in York
YORK—On Thursday, January 16, 2025, 5:42 p.m., troopers with Troop G responded to a crash at Exit 7 southbound in York. The crash involved two tractor trailer units. One of the tractor trailer units rolled over and was blocking two lanes of the highway along with Exit 7 southbound. The tractor trailer unit that rolled over was a water tanker operated by 64-year-old Larry Roberge, of Waterboro. He was transported to Portsmouth Hospital with serious injuries.
The second tractor trailer unit was a flatbed operated by 40-year-old Konstantin Volikov, of Fredericton, New Brunswick. Mr. Volikov was not injured.
The crash is still under investigation. Traffic was slightly backed up due to the lane closures. Troop G was assisted by MSP’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, York Police Department, York Fire Department, Maine Turnpike Maintenance, and National Wrecker Service.
Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating a Fatal Fire in Lebanon
LEBANON—On Friday, January 17, 2025, January 17, 2025, at approximately 12 p.m., the Lebanon Fire Department requested fire investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office respond to a residence on Smith Road in Lebanon for a structure fire. The structure was a large single-family home that was destroyed by the fire. One occupant of the home managed to escape the fire and was subsequently transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Fire Investigators located a deceased adult male among the remains. The deceased was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy will be performed to determine positive identification. The fire remains under investigation.
Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating a Fatal Explosion in Aroostook County
MOLUNKUS—On Friday, January 17, 2025, at approximately 3 p.m., the Fire Marshals Office was requested to respond to 118 Aroostook Road in the town of Molunkus for an explosion with one reported fatality. Fire Investigators responded to the scene and conducted a post blast investigation.
The deceased was identified as 66-year-old Kerry Holmes. Fire Investigators learned that Mr. Holmes, the property owner, was utilizing a propane torch to thaw a frozen water tank on a commercial truck. At some point, the torch flame went out and propane gas collected in and around the tank. A second torch being used is suspected as the ignition source. Mr. Holmes was pronounced deceased on the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
