POLICE: February 22 Brings A Glimpse of Summer on MDI
State Police and Hancock County Sheriff’s as Well
BAR HARBOR––On February 22, Blake Rosso, 41, of Southwest Harbor, was driving a 2017 Toyota RAV4 south on Indian Point Road, allegedly at a high rate of speed, when he allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Bartlett’s Landing Road and then failed to negotiate the corner. Rosso’s vehicle left the roadway to the right and struck a telephone pole before coming to rest in the ditch. Rosso was wearing his seatbelt and the airbags deployed, resulting in no injury. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Rosso allegedly left the scene of the accident and when he was located, he was arrested for alleged operating under the influence, class D, and alleged leaving the scene of an accident, class E. Rosso was transported to the Hancock County Jail.
After multiple loud noise complaints in Bar Harbor, Officer Troy Stanwood arrested Louis Senecal, 40, of Norway, Maine, for alleged disorderly conduct, class E. Senecal was transported to the Hancock County Jail where he was later charged with alleged trafficking in prison contraband, class C. Senecal was being held without bail pending arraignment.
Also on February 22, Reid Crewe-Smith, 41, of Cumberland Foreside, Maine, was given a ride to her hotel in Bar Harbor and given a warning not to drive her vehicle. Sometime after midnight, Crewe-Smith allegedly decided to return and retrieve her vehicle. Officer Judson Cake then arrested her for alleged operating under the influence.

Officer Elias Burne assisted a motorist with a disabled vehicle in Bar Harbor.
Officer Burne assisted someone in Bar Harbor who was having a mental illness episode.

Officer Burne assisted MDI Hospital. No further information or disposition was given.
A man went to the Bar Harbor Police Department to find out what his options were in dealing with a roommate.
Norman Langlois, no age given, was backing a 2009 Subaru SUV out of a driveway on Des Isle in Bar Harbor when he allegedly backed into a neighboring fence. There was no personal injury reported. The Subaru suffered no damage, but the fence had a couple of broken slats and a bent metal post.

Lucy Barnhart, 64, of Bar Harbor, was driving a 2006 Ford Taurus south on Beech Hill Road in Mount Desert when she allegedly hit a patch of gravel in the roadway, and the vehicle left the roadway. There was no personal injury reported. The vehicle suffered damage to the front end, and the undercarriage and had to be towed from the scene.
Penelope Evans, 79, of Mount Desert, was driving a 2021 Subaru Forester and entering a parking lot off Wayman Lane in Bar Harbor. She allegedly struck some construction material that was in the parking lot and caused front end damage to the vehicle. No personal injury was reported.
Officer Shelby O’Neil responded to a report of erratic vehicle operation in Bar Harbor, located the driver and vehicle at the driver’s residence, and could not detect any signs of impairment.
Officer Lukas Keene received some information from someone in Bar Harbor.
Officer Keene assisted another agency in Bar Harbor.

Officer Tim Bland assisted with a traffic complaint in Bar Harbor.
Officer Bland assisted an unhoused person in Bar Harbor and referred the case to the police department’s Mental Health Liaison.
Someone called the Bar Harbor Police Department looking for information, but the police department was not able to assist the caller.
Mental Health Liaison Melissa Tozier met with someone in Bar Harbor who is unhoused.
Officer Bland served paperwork to someone in Bar Harbor on behalf of another agency.
Officer Chris Dickens assisted an out-of-state agency in Mount Desert with gathering information for an investigation.
Officer Bland responded to a motor vehicle complaint in Bar Harbor but was unable to locate the suspect vehicle.
Officer Bland responded to a business in Bar Harbor that was asking for help with a patron. Officer Bland gave the patron a ride to his hotel.
Officer Bland responded to a trespassing complaint in Bar Harbor, but the trespassers had left the area before his arrival.
The Bar Harbor Police Department loaned a Bar Harbor resident a Havaheart trap to try and catch a squirrel in their house.
Officer Burne gave someone a ride home from the MDI Hospital.
Officer Stanwood responded to a noise complaint in Bar Harbor and warned two people for disorderly conduct.

Officer Bland handled a “suspicious” complaint in Bar Harbor. No further information or disposition was given.
Officer Dickens distributed information regarding recent New England-based bank thefts to banks in Bar Harbor and Mount Desert.
Officer T. Cake received information from someone in Mount Desert.
Officer Burne opened a theft investigation in Bar Harbor.
A parent reported their child had run away in Bar Harbor. Multiple officers responded to the complaint and located the missing juvenile within the hour. The juvenile was then transported to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.
Officer T. Cake responded to a motor vehicle complaint in Mount Desert but was unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

Maine Criminal Justice Academy to Graduate 67 Corrections Cadets on Friday
On Friday, February 23, 2024, 67 Corrections Cadets will graduate from the Basic Corrections Training Program (BCTP) at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro.
This is the largest BCTP class in the history of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
The 80th BCTP started on January 16, 2024, and consists of 224 hours of curriculum. The program includes mandatory classes on Defensive Tactics, Mental Health First Aid, Interpersonal Skills, Corrections Law, and Situational Use of Force.
Maine State Police Investigating Crash in Augusta
On Monday, February 26, 2024, at approximately 7:27 a.m., Troopers responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 95 near mile marker 113 in Augusta. Initial investigation indicates that a silver 2003 Toyota Tacoma being operated by a 19-year-old New Castle man was traveling northbound when his vehicle went off the road, into the median and struck a tree.
The driver was transported to Maine General Hospital in Augusta with life threatening injuries. He was later sent via Lifeflight to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Speed and inclement weather/road conditions at the time are considered factors in the crash.
On February 27, the driver of the vehicle was identified as 19-year-old Jack Duncan, of Newcastle. He remains in critical condition at Maine Medical Center. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash occur is urged to contact Trooper Keith Barton at 207-624-7076.
