Press Release: Author Talk at Southwest Harbor Public Library
Story collection about life after unexpected events
SOUTHWEST HARBOR—On Tuesday, October 1, at 5:30 p.m., the Southwest Harbor Public Library will host a talk with local author Caroline Ailanthus, the author of Ecological Memory and now its sequel, Birfurcation Events. Ecological Memory featured a global pandemic but was written before COVID-19. Birfurcation Events is a group of interrelated short stories and novellas exploring how unexpected events-like a pandemic-can profoundly impact our lives in a myriad of ways. One piece in the collection, a short novel, is set on Mount Desert Island, largely at Long Pond and Southwest Harbor.
Caroline Ailanthus is a science writer, free-lancer, and naturalist who usually lives in Maryland with her husband and assorted cats and dogs. But on a semi-regular basis, the entire menagerie drifts north, often to Mount Desert Island. Bifurcation Events is the author’s third published novel. She has also published short non-fiction and maintains several blogs.
