Press release: Kids’ Corner Hosts Week of Giving to Support Early Childhood Education
BAR HARBOR—From April 7–11, during the nationally recognized Week of the Young Child, Kids’ Corner, a non-profit early childcare center, is launching its Week of Giving with a goal of raising $10,000 to support tuition assistance, critical facility upgrades, and program enhancements.
For the first time since the pandemic, Kids’ Corner is once again filled with the joyful laughter of children. To meet the growing demand for quality childcare, we are thrilled to bring back our much-needed infant room, expanding services for local families. With increased interest and enrollment, Kids’ Corner must be prepared to hire more teachers, provide additional classroom materials, and ensure a safe and engaging outdoor space for children to play and explore - no matter the weather.
As our classrooms bustle with learning, laughter, naps, and storytimes, our small nonprofit relies on private funding to address urgent needs - including tuition assistance for families like the single parent we recently welcomed, replacing a broken dryer, and maintaining our building and outdoor spaces.
Since its founding, Kids’ Corner has shaped the lives of more than 1,000 local children and families. In 1989, Bar Harbor residents recognized the need for quality childcare for working families. With support from MDI Hospital, First National Bank, Don’s Shop & Save (now Hannaford), The Jackson Lab, College of the Atlantic, and other local businesses, Kids’ Corner Early Childcare Center officially opened its doors in September 1990 at the corner of Eden and Mt. Desert Streets. Thirty-five years later, the magic remains - children’s laughter and learning still fill the air as you descend from Eagle Lake Road into the heart of Bar Harbor.
At Kids’ Corner, we aren’t just providing childcare, we are Raising Tomorrow’s Leaders. The early years are the foundation for a child’s future, and our dedicated teachers and volunteers create an environment where children learn, grow, and develop the skills they need to thrive in school and beyond.
This Week of Giving is just the beginning of a yearlong celebration of our 35th anniversary! We are excited to bring back:
Potluck dinners and community clean-up days for KC families,
"The Return of Mary Poppins" at the Bar Harbor 4th of July Parade (if you know, you know!),
Our highly successful Fall Basket Raffle, supported by donations from local businesses, and
A special anniversary celebration to mark 35 years of Kids’ Corner in Bar Harbor.
“When looking for a place for our child to grow, socialize, and enrich their young life, it was suggested to me to visit Lori at Kids’ Corner,” said a current parent. “From the outside, you cannot fully experience the magical environment that the dedicated staff at KC provides. This is one reason my family volunteers at KC - to assist Lori with finding the resources needed to upkeep the buildings and grounds so they reflect the warmth and care felt the moment you walk through the door.”
By donating or sponsoring during our Week of Giving, you can help ensure that this beloved early childhood center continues to serve local families for years to come.
We still have openings! If you are interested in enrolling your child or scheduling a site visit, please contact Lori at kidscorner@prexar.com or call 207-288-9503.
Donations can be made online at www.givebutter.com/KCWeek, and sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses and individuals looking to make a lasting impact.
Join us in showering Kids’ Corner with love and investing in the future—because the children in our classrooms today will be the leaders of tomorrow!
