Maine State Police Investigating Turnpike Crash Blocking Both NB and SB lanes
WELLS—Troopers were on the scene of a tractor trailer crash at mile marker 22 on the turnpike in Wells. Initial investigation indicates the driver of the tractor trailer was traveling southbound in the rain on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at approximately 2:20 a.m., when he lost control of his vehicle, went off the roadway to the left and became intertwined with the guardrail, causing disabling damage to the truck. This resulted in the tractor trailer blocking the two passing lanes southbound and two of the passing lanes northbound.
The operator of the Granite Group tractor trailer, 73-year-old Larry Beaugeard of Dunbarton, New Hampshire, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The tractor trailer was mostly empty however some plumbing supplies on board became strewn across the northbound lanes. Ray’s towing was on scene assessing the situation. The cause of the crash in under investigation. Troopers were assisted by the Maine Turnpike Authority, the Wells Police Department, and the Kennebunk Fire Department. All lanes are now open.

Following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, Officer Lukas Keene arrested Kaydence Warner, 18, of Orono, for alleged operating under the influence. Officer Keene also charged a 16-year-old juvenile from Orono with alleged possession by consumption of alcohol by a minor.
A Mount Desert woman went in to the Mount Desert Police department to report an issue with another resident. A police report was taken.
Someone called the Bar Harbor Police Department and asked that it be documented that the caller’s neighbor was antagonizing the caller’s cat to try and make it fight the neighbor’s own cat. The caller said they wanted it documented because they were going to apply for a protection order.
Officer Ted Cake picked up a loose dog from the person that found the dog in Bar Harbor and took it back to the police station where it was reunited with its owner.
Officer T. Cake performed a requested well-being check in Mount Desert, but the subject of the check was not home. Officer T. Cake left a business card asking the person being checked on to call him. No further information or disposition was given.
Officer Troy Stanwood received a report of a road rage incident that was heading towards MDI from Trenton but was out of position to intercept the offending vehicle.
Officer Stanwood took a report of fraud in Mount Desert. The complainant just wanted it documented.
Officer Amie Torrey spoke with a woman in Mount Desert regarding trespassers on the woman’s mother’s property.
Officer Elias Burne handled a call in Bar Harbor that resulted in him speaking with some children about some safety concerns.
Officer Torrey took a report of a stolen cell phone in Mount Desert. No further information or disposition was given.
Officer Keene spoke with someone in Bar Harbor regarding a civil matter.

Stephen Crow, 18, of Gray, Tennessee, was driving a 2018 Ford van south on Route 3 in Bar Harbor when the van allegedly left the road at a high rate of speed and collided with a tree. There were four occupants in the van and all were transported to MDI Hospital. The van was towed due to disabling damage. Crow was summonsed for alleged driving to endanger.
Officer Zack Kline responded to a report of someone having “keyed” the complainant’s vehicle overnight in Mount Desert. Officer Kline was not able to locate any evidence that would point to a suspect but documented the event for insurance purposes.
Officer T. Cake spoke with someone in Bar Harbor who wanted to report some information and have it documented.
Officer T. Cake assisted with a parking issue in Bar Harbor. No further information or disposition was given.
Officer T. Cake checked on some dogs in a vehicle in Bar Harbor and determined that the dogs were not in distress.
After receiving a report of some people being disorderly in the Village Green in Bar Harbor, Officer T. Cake checked the area on foot and could not locate anyone being disorderly.
Mental Health Liaison Melissa Tozier attempted to meet with someone in Mount Desert. No further information or disposition was given.
A Bar Harbor resident reported that a package was stolen. Via the package tracking information, an officer was able to determine that multiple delivery attempts were made and then the package had been returned to the originating facility.
A Bar Harbor resident reported loud music coming from a vehicle parked on the street. Sgt. Jerrod Hardy drove through the area and could not locate any loud music.
A Bar Harbor resident reported a civil issue with their neighbor.
Sgt. Hardy responded to a report of a man trying to peel registration stickers off vehicles in Bar Harbor and found the man to be attempting to get his stickers to affix better.
Someone reported people skateboarding in Northeast Harbor and Officer Stanwood determined that there was no violations.
Officer Keene responded to a report of theft in Bar Harbor but after investigating, he learned that the item had been mistakenly taken by a friend of the complainant.

Following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, Natalie Fournier, 25, of Bangor, was arrested for alleged operating under the influence. Fournier was transported to the Hancock County Jail.
Sgt. Soren Sundberg was given information in Bar Harbor regarding a mental health issue.
Officer Kline assisted a motorist with a disabled vehicle on Beech Hill Cross Road in Mount Desert.
Officer Kline delivered a message to a Bar Harbor resident on behalf of the Androscoggin County Sherriff’s Office.
A Mount Desert resident reported a parking problem on a private way. Officer T. Cake located the vehicle and left a notice on it that it should not be parked where it was.
Officers responded to a noise complaint in Bar Harbor and determined that it was unsubstantiated.
Sgt. Sundberg located a vehicle that was the subject of a speeding complaint in Bar Harbor and warned the operator for speeding.
MHL Tozier spoke with someone in Bar Harbor about distressing life circumstances.
Sgt. Chris Dickens responded to a report of a possible horse at large on Eagle Lake Road in Bar Harbor but could not locate any horses.
After receiving speeding complaints in the area of the Village Hall in Otter Creek prior to a meeting taking place at the hall, Sgt. Dickens conducted some stationary speed detection and ended up stopping and warning one person for their speed.
Sgt. Hardy handled a parking complaint on Eagle Lake Road in Bar Harbor and found the vehicle to be gone upon his arrival.

Officer Kaleb Payson responded to a complaint of suspicious behavior in Bar Harbor but failed to locate any suspicious behavior.
Information was passed on to the Bar Harbor Police Department which Officer Payson documented.
Officer Stanwood had a vehicle towed in Mount Desert for blocking a Fire Department bay door and for allegedly violating a town ordinance.
The Bar Harbor Police Department took an animal complaint which the Animal Control Officer is investigating.
Officer Stanwood responded to a medical call with the Bar Harbor Fire Department.
Someone gave the Mount Desert Police Department some information regarding property damage.
Officer Kline responded to a motor vehicle that was disabled on the Beech Hill Cross Road in Mount Desert. The vehicle was towed and Officer Kline provided the occupants with a ride.
Officer Burne responded to an overdose involving narcotics in Bar Harbor and the subject was transported to MDI Hospital after having been administered Narcan.
A Mount Desert resident called the police department and asked to speak with an officer. Officer Torrey spoke with the man.
Sgt. Dickens responded to a report of a possibly injured pigeon in Bar Harbor but could not locate the bird.

The Bar Harbor Police department contacted the owner of a dog that was reported wandering around Woodbury Road in Bar Harbor and the owner went and retrieved the dog.
Officer Kline assisted the Bar Harbor Fire Department with an unruly patient but cleared the scene when it was learned that the patient was not being unruly.
Officer Kline responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch in Bar Harbor. The vehicle was pulled out of the ditch, was undamaged, and all of the occupants were fine.
Officer Kline handled a report of a dog in a car in Bar Harbor, but the vehicle was gone upon his arrival.
Officer Kline received a report of someone on the roof of a Bar Harbor church but could not locate anyone on the roof.
An officer responded to a West Street business in Bar Harbor for a report of an animal bite and documented the incident.
Officer Formby conducted an outside detail in Bar Harbor.
Sgt. Dickens and Sgt. Doug Brundrett responded to a report of a disorderly man at a Cottage Street business in Bar Harbor. The man was warned for his behavior.
Following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, Officer Payson arrested Theodore Welton Jr., 50, of Ellsworth, for alleged theft by unauthorized use, alleged driving to endanger, and alleged burglary of a motor vehicle. Welton was transported to the Hancock County Jail.

The Southwest Harbor Police Department received a call about two dogs running loose on Main Street in Southwest Harbor. The caller said that the owner of the dogs was there, but they just wanted the police department to be aware.
Officer Bradley Russell went to a Southwest Harbor business to speak with the owner about the general responsibilities of what is required when workers here on visas are operating vehicles on the roadway.
Officer Russell is investigating the report of a stolen credit card in Southwest Harbor.
The Southwest Harbor Police Department received a report of theft regarding an item that went missing during a party on July 4 from a complainant in Tremont.
Officer Russell responded to Tremont to speak with an individual about a civil matter regarding the returning of property to the individual.
Officer Russell retrieved a loose dog in Southwest Harbor and returned it to its owner.
A Southwest Harbor resident called the police department and reported that their neighbor had vandalized the resident’s porch. Officer Russell responded to the complainant’s residence and spoke with both parties who were able to come to a resolution.
Officer Russell is investigating a complaint of ongoing harassment in Southwest Harbor.

Officer Russell responded to an erratic driving complaint in Southwest Harbor, located the suspect vehicle, and spoke with the driver.
Officer Russell responded to Tremont after someone’s vehicle crash detector went off. Officer Russell located the vehicle and found the driver to be all set and determined that there was no emergency.
Someone called the Southwest Harbor Police Department to report that they found the remnants of a burn pile on their Southwest Harbor property and had no knowledge of why it was there. Officer Russell generated a report for the complaint.
Officer Russell handled a missing pet complaint in Southwest Harbor, and the pet was eventually found later in the day.
Officer Russell responded to a vehicle parked in a no parking zone in Southwest Harbor, found that there was someone in the vehicle, and had them move the vehicle.

Maine Drug Enforcement Agents Arrest Sabattus Man for Second Time in Two Months
SABATTUS—On April 22, 2024, Maine Drug Enforcement agents arrested David Strout, 34, of 27 Meadow Lane, Sabattus, for unlawful trafficking in schedule drugs. Strout’s arrest was in relation to a drug trafficking investigation where agents conducted undercover purchases of crack cocaine. Strout was arrested during a search warrant at his 27 Meadow Lane home. Strout was subsequently released on bail.
On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at approximately 5:00 a.m., a second search warrant was executed at Strout’s home at 27 Meadow Lane in Sabattus. The search warrant was in connection with the ongoing drug trafficking investigation of Strout since being released on bail. Agents were assisted by the Maine State Police Tactical Team who secured the residence rendering it safe for agents to conduct a search.
As a result of the search, approximately 200 grams of methamphetamine and cocaine were seized along with other evidence of drug trafficking and approximately $5,000 in suspected drug proceeds.
Strout, who was present at the home was arrested without incident and transported to the Androscoggin County Jail where he will be held without bail pending a court appearance. Strout’s girlfriend and two children were also present at the time of the search warrant. The State’s Department of Health and Human Services was contacted informing them of the presence of minor children.
Strout was charged with unlawful aggravated trafficking in schedule drugs (methamphetamine), class A, unlawful trafficking in schedule drugs (cocaine), class B, and violation of conditions of release, class D.
Assisting agents were representatives from the Maine State Police, Sabattus Police, Topsham Police (K9), Lisbon Police (K9), Androscoggin Sheriff’s Office (K9), Lisbon/Sabattus Animal Control, and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations.
Maine State Police Investigating Crash in Burlington
BURLINGTON—On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at approximately 5:48 p.m., troopers responded to a single vehicle crash on Long Ridge Road in Burlington. The vehicle, a 2016 red Chevrolet Equinox, was reported to have been coming from Lincoln with two blown tires prior to the crash. Witnesses observed the vehicle hitting a curb in Lincoln and continue driving towards Burlington. Troopers responded to the crash and found the vehicle rolled and resting on its side in the woods. Both passenger side tires were blown.
The vehicle was operated by 48-year-old Jennifer Harriman of Burlington. There were three children in the vehicle, an eight-year-old and two one-year-olds. Harriman was transported by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center. One of the one-year-olds was transported via Life Flight to Eastern Maine Medical Center. The other one-year-old and eight-year-old were transported by ambulance to Penobscot Valley Hospital. All the occupants suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash and the circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation. The Maine Warden Service, Howland Fire Department, Lincoln Fire Department, and Life Flight assisted with the crash.
Maine Drug Enforcement and Waterville Police Arrest Man for Drug Trafficking
WATERVILLE—For the past three months, agents from the MDEA South Central District Task Force and officers of the Waterville Police Department have been investigating illegal drug trafficking occurring at 18 Edwards Street in Waterville.
As a result of the investigation agents applied for and were granted a search warrant for 18 Edwards Street in Waterville.
On August 1, at approximately 8:00 a.m., agents and Waterville officers executed the search warrant. Upon entering the home agents encountered and detained Omar Sims Marquez, 21, of Waterville, who was attempting to flee from a second-floor bathroom. Agents heard the bathroom toilet had been flushed and discovered the toilet to be clogged by several plastic baggies that Marquez attempted to destroy.
The baggies were retrieved, and their contents revealed to be approximately 35 grams of fentanyl and cocaine base (crack cocaine). A further search of the residence resulted in the seizure of additional evidence of illegal drug trafficking and $3,600 in suspected drug proceeds.
Marquez, who recently moved to Waterville from Connecticut was staying at the Edwards Street residence. He was arrested and transported to the Kennebec County Jail. Marquez was charged with unlawful aggravated trafficking in schedule drugs (fentanyl), class A, unlawful trafficking in schedule drugs (cocaine base), class B, and falsifying physical evidence, class D.
Bail was set at $240,000 cash. Marquez is expected to appear in Kennebec Unified Court later this week. This is an ongoing investigation, and additional arrests are expected.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The MDEA stands committed to working with all federal, state, county, and local law enforcement partners in order to continue to identify and disrupt drug trafficking organizations who are attempting to distribute illicit drugs like fentanyl and methamphetamine in the State of Maine.

Maine State Police Investigating Three Deaths in Mechanic Falls
MECHANIC FALLS—On Saturday, July 27, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Mechanic Falls Police Department requested the assistance of Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South after the discovery of three deceased individuals at a residence on Highland Ave in Mechanical Falls. Detectives and Evidence Response Technicians responded and spent the evening and overnight hours processing the scene. The deceased were transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where autopsies will be performed to determine cause and manner of death and to positively identify the deceased.
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in Augusta has determined two of the deceased individuals located at a residence in Mechanic Falls on July 27, 2024, are female juveniles. The cause of death for one juvenile is multiple stab wounds. The cause of death for the other juvenile is multiple injuries. The manner of deaths for both juveniles is homicide. The third deceased individual is an adult female whose cause and manner of death are pending additional testing. The OCME is still in the process of positively identifying all three deceased individuals. No other information is available at this time.
Maine State Police Investigating Shooting Death in Poland
POLAND—The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South is assisting the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office with a shooting death that occurred at 252 White Oak Hill Road in Poland on Friday, August 2, 2024, at approximately 7:50 p.m.. The deceased was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy will be performed to determine cause and manner of death. The investigation is ongoing and there is no danger to the public.
