Town Manager Search Public Workshop Rescheduled For Thursday
Harbor Committee Has No Quorum
BAR HARBOR— The public workshop on March 14th from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. was to have been presented by David Barrett of the Maine Municipal Association. The information presented is regarding the town manager search. It has been cancelled because of expected weather. This is the second time the workshop has had to be rescheduled.
The workshop is now scheduled for Thursday at Council Chambers in the Bar Harbor Municipal Building at 5:30 p.m.
HARBOR COMMITTEE MEETING
The Harbor Committee met on Monday, but lacked a quorum to take action. The only members of the public in attendance were Council Chair Valerie Peacock and her son. Chair Jeff Miller had an excused absence. Committee members waited until 4:11 p.m. and then called the meeting. Prior to that, they quickly mentioned that the GEI Consultants, Inc. will be coming for the next meeting.
According to the town’s Existing Conditions Analysis Report, “The Town of Bar Harbor is currently discussing options for demolishing portions of the old pier and eventually replacing it with a marina that could include new docks, floats, and other publicly accessible amenities.”
Just to mobilize the barge costs $30,000. Committee members also took the time to ask Peacock if the ferry terminal was on the council’s radar given how many other big projects could potentially be in the works: infrastructure needs, the Conners Emerson rebuild, the high school addition, and Glen Mary pool.
There are some projects that are out there and in their thoughts such as the streetscape project and the ferry terminal. “There are options for grant funding for that project,” Peacock believes about the potential plan for the area where the ferry terminal is on Route 3. “People want the ferry terminal to be developed and be used. People are ready for something to happen there. That’s the feedback I get.”
Harbormaster Christopher Wharff said a phased plan helps make it usable for people without as much initial cost to the taxpayer.
