Two Bar Harbor Women Involved in Separate Serious Accidents This Week
Local woman dies after yesterday's collision
BAR HARBOR AND LEVANT—Two Bar Harbor women have been involved in serious, separate accidents this week.
On Thursday afternoon, shortly before 3 p.m., Anita Burdzel, 52, had been traveling on Route 102 on a 2023 Vespa close to where the road intersects with the Gilbert Farm Road.
A 2015 Chevrolet Silverado had been stopped in the road while waiting for another vehicle to turn left. The moped hit the pickup truck and Burdzel was thrown into the road.
LifeFlight was called, but had a delay, and was eventually cancelled. Burdzel was taken to Mount Desert Island Hospital via ambulance where she died.
In Levant, earlier this week Jennifer Archie, 38, had been driving west on Avenue Road in Levant. Her 2010 Toyota Corolla left the road and hit a utility pole around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
According to WABI, “Archie was pulled to safety by bystanders after her vehicle caught fire.”
The fire did not spread to a nearby home.
“Levant farmer Rick Call tells us the utility pole she hit was in his yard and he saw the woman being thrown from the car,” WABI wrote. “Call says she was thrown about 10 feet into the air upon impact.
“Well, I didn’t want to move her at first, but when the car started to burn I figured we better move her. She was moving her legs so I knew she didn’t have spine problems, so we grabbed her by the arms and pulled her over beside the tractor, away from the hot heat and acutely scorched my arms a little bit it was so hot,” the station reported Call as saying.
Archie was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
