Carrie, does this mean that Bar Harbor thinks it might not renew the lease with the Cat in Year 3? I see there is no berth for the Cat in Phase 3. It would be nice if we could have all that room for private boats AND the Cat but perhaps there isn't room...
I haven't heard Bar Harbor talk about not renewing the lease.
It was initially a three-year lease, renewed again for this next year. I think GEI and others think that it's not an indefinite use for the site and is dependent on Bay Ferries wanting to keep using the space and running the CAT. Currently, they do and are! :)
I think that the worries about the multiple uses is just enough room for everything as it's been conceptualized. There are wants for a marina (public), boat ramp (kayak, fishing people-recreation and commercial), cruise ship tendering and also just park space (looking down at the boats and having a place to chill). Some of those needs require a bit more space than others and the placement of different aspects (ramp, tenders) has worries from different user groups or abutting land owners.
