Yesterday, we put out a story about the local lodging sales tax discussion that mentions a current local lodging tax bill before the state legislature, and it had an error. That error lead to a clarification, which led to a Substack glitch that I didn’t notice reverting to an older version, which led to an update, which led to more information (an amendment to the bill that wasn’t available online then), which led to more clarity within the article.
Clarity is wonderful. Glitches and errors? Not so much.
All of that is visible now in the article that we corrected yesterday.
However, because of how this platform works, I’m concerned that those clarifications and corrections are not immediately getting dispersed. Having the right information out there is really important to me.
So, what was unclear?
What is confusing within the bigger article is whether or not other lodging that is not short-term rentals in dwellings is included in the proposed legislation. It is. That means hotels are. Inns are. Motels are. There is language in the original bill that mentions some exclusions, but these are few.
The bill, the amendment, the clarifications within that section of the article (without glitches) are all here if you’d like to see it in context.
Again, I’m so sorry for the confusion. If you know me in person, you know that I can’t stand it if I have let people down in any way. And I definitely have.
Many thanks to Sen. Grohoski for the updated information and for letting me know that the copy didn’t hold and more clarity was needed. I absolutely appreciate it and all of you.
When I think of the Bar Harbor Story, I think of it as a place where information is gathered and community is celebrated and informed. That’s really hard with just Shaun and me. We’re only two people. So, thank you. I appreciate you all so much. And I will try to triple check glitches on platforms even when I’m tired like I am this week. I apologize for letting you down. - Carrie
Thanks for all you do - mistakes will happen - appreciate the info.
We all make mistakes, good on you for correcting!
