GoFundMe Set for State Rep Who Was Injured in Car Accident
SEDGWICK—A GoFundMe has been set up for State Representative Holly Eaton who was in a car accident, June 2.
According to Chastity Hardie who organized the GoFundMe, Eaton had spinal surgery on June 4 at Northern Light EMMC in Bangor. The surgery was to repair a fractured L1 vertebrae.
“Unexpectedly, on Friday, she collapsed during PT due to a pulmonary embolism and needed to be transferred via Lifeflight to Maine Medical in Portland,” Hardie wrote.
Rep. Eaton is still in the ICU in Portland and will likely be there for multiple days.
“All funds received will help take care of the day to day finances for Holly and her boys and provide her financial flexibility while she focuses on her recovery and healing,” Hardie wrote.
On June 3, Rep. Eaton posted on her Facebook account about the accident.
“Yesterday, just past ECS in Sedgwick, I was in a motor vehicle accident while heading to Augusta. I want to thank everyone who responded and helped at the scene—especially my dear friend Hannah S. Faulkingham, who I was trying to avoid hitting. I’m so grateful for the quick response from Sedgwick Fire and Peninsula Ambulance, who took such good care of me,” she wrote.
The Eggemoggin County Store (ECS) is on the Caterpillar Road.
According to the crash report from Hancock County Sheriff Deputy Devin J. Grindle, the accident occurred just after 8 a.m., June 2. Rep. Eaton was driving her green 2011 Subaru north on the Sedgwick Road.
“Holly failed to stop for a white 2020 Chevy Traverse operated by 36-year-old Hannah Faulkingham who was stopped in traffic waiting for vehicle in front to turn left,” Deputy Grindle wrote. “Eaton attempted to avoid a collision but struck the rear passenger side of Faulkingham’s vehicle and continued off the road into a field.”
Eaton’s vehicle had to be towed. Faulkingham was uninjured.
Rep. Eaton was first brought to Blue Hill Memorial Hospital after the accident before being transferred to the Bangor hospital. She described the vertebra fracture as “a floating piece of bone and tight ligaments that the surgeon will assess further during surgery. I’m in a lot of pain, but I’m in good hands and now settled into a room at the hospital.”
She thanked everyone who had helped her in the June 3 post and spoke of missing her boys terribly and excited to snuggle them soon.
Rep. Eaton, who is in her second term in the Maine House, represents Brooklin, Deer Isle, Frenchboro, Marshall Island, Southwest Harbor, Stonington, Swan’s Island, Tremont, Eagle Island Township, Isle au Haut, and Vinalhaven. She is a member of the Marine Resources Committee and the Transportation Committee and has been a sternman and is currently a massage therapist.
