Hancock County Sheriff’s Arrest Man For Stabbing Domestic Partner
MDI police, HCSO, and state police logs and briefs; Bar Harbor grass fire quickly extinguished
PENOBSCOT—On April 26, at approximately 4:51 a.m., the Hancock County Regional Communications Center (RCC) received a distress call from a female resident of Penobscot, reporting a male individual experiencing a medical event. The call was abruptly disconnected approximately 20 minutes after the RCC received it.
Approximately eigh minutes after the termination of the call, Deputy Justin Burnett arrived at the residence. He discovered that the female complainant had been stabbed. She informed Deputy Burnett that the male suspect, who was the subject of the 911 call, had left the residence on foot, and had fled into a nearby wooded area. The female complainant was transported to a local hospital by ambulance to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
Additional personnel from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene to assist in the search for the male suspect. The suspect, later identified as Michael Bakeman, 33, eventually came out of the woods and was taken into custody without incident. He was also transported to a local hospital via ambulance to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
Mr. Bakeman has been charged with domestic violence elevated aggravated assault, class A. Following medical clearance, he will be transported to the Hancock County Jail.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit, the Maine State Police Tactical Team, Peninsula Ambulance Corps, Bucksport Ambulance, and the Penobscot and Castine Fire Departments.

The Bar Harbor Police Department took a missing person report. The person was located and found to be fine.
A business reported a theft of services in Bar Harbor but no charges came of the event.
Someone reported information to the Bar Harbor Police Department.
Officer Amie Torrey handled a trespassing complaint in Mount Desert, but the person had left prior to her arrival.
A person from out of state requested that the Bar Harbor Police Department pass on some information to a family member in Bar Harbor.
Officer Nathan Formby responded to a request to transport a person in Bar Harbor to the hospital, and they ended up being transported by ambulance.

Following a traffic stop in Trenton, Officer Formby summonsed Nathaniel Church, 34, of Gouldsboro, for alleged violation of conditions of release.
Officer Judson Cake dispatched an injured beaver in Bar Harbor.
Matthew Jordan, 38, of Waltham, was driving a 2019 Chevy Colorado on Route 102 in Bar Harbor when a deer entered the roadway and was allegedly struck by Jordan’s vehicle. There was no reported personal injury. The truck suffered driver’s side windshield, mirror, and body damage.
Bar Harbor/Mount Desert officers and firefighters responded to Stanley Mountain Road in Mount Desert for a structure fire that was determined to be arson and was turned over to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Sgt. Doug Brundrett performed a well-being check on a person in Bar Harbor at the request of an out-of-state former co-worker and found the person to be all set.
Police are investigating a report of fraudulent activity involving a Bar Harbor resident’s bank account.
Officer Torrey was requested to check on a woman in Mount Desert. No further information or disposition was given.

Officer Troy Stanwood took a complaint of tailgating in Mount Desert but was not in a position to locate the suspect vehicle.
Someone called the Bar Harbor Police Department to give information.
Officer Ted Cake documented a report of fraud in Bar Harbor.
Officer T. Cake responded to a complaint of a person who had been in a public restroom in Bar Harbor for a long time. The person was fine and just having stomach issues.
Officer Elias Burne handled a motor vehicle complaint in Bar Harbor, but the vehicle was gone upon his arrival.
Roland Sosa, 62, of Bar Harbor, was attempting to park a 2021 Ford F-150 in front of a 2013 Honda Fit that had been legally parked by Sara Graves, 45, of Bar Harbor, on Cottage Street, in Bar Harbor. Allegedly, Sosa backed into the front of Graves’ vehicle. There was no reported personal injury and the damage was deemed non-reportable.
After being advised of a disorderly situation in Bar Harbor, Officer Formby warned a person for trespass and sent them home for the evening.

Noah Gudroe, 37, of Levant, Maine, was backing a 2017 Nissan van and Angelica Carr, 36, of Mount Desert, was backing a 2023 Chevy Tahoe in a Cottage Street parking lot in Bar Harbor when the vehicles allegedly backed into each other. There was no reported personal injury. The van received no damage and the Tahoe received minor dents to its passenger side’s rear fender.
Court-ordered paperwork was served on a resident of Bar Harbor.
Sgt. Chris Dickens handled a parking complaint on Main Street in Bar Harbor, which was where a parked vehicle was preventing a property owner from getting their own vehicle out. Sgt. Dickens assisted the property owner with maneuvering around the offending vehicle.
A Bar Harbor resident reported some suspicious activity to Officer Burne so that it could be on record.

Officer Kaleb Payson took a suspicious activity complaint in Bar harbor that he determined was unfounded.
Sgt. Dickens handled a complaint of hostile activity on someone’s social media account in Bar Harbor and documented the matter after the complainant had reported the activity to the platform’s administrators.
Michele Gurtler, 58, of Bar Harbor, was driving a 2014 Jeep Wrangler on Norway Drive in Bar Harbor and was behind Richard Bennoch, 65, of Ellsworth, who was driving a 1988 Grumman LLV postal vehicle. Bennoch was making frequent stops and allegedly Gurtler attempted to pass Bennoch as he allegedly crossed over the centerline. Gurtler’s vehicle ended up in the ditch on the opposite side of the road. There was no reported personal injury. The Jeep sustained damage to the front passenger side corner and top and the postal vehicle sustained damage to the front driver side corner.
The Bar Harbor Police Department received a report of a trailer having been parked on private property, but Sgt. Dickens determined that the trailer’s owner had permission to park it there.
Officer Burne checked on a truck and trailer parked on the side of the Route 3 in Bar Harbor and found them to be all set.
Officer Burne responded to a citizen assist in Bar Harbor. No further information or disposition was given.
Officers responded to a complaint in Mount Desert and as a result, one person was taken to the hospital. The matter is under investigation.
Officer Stanwood took a report of a vehicle doing “burnouts” in Bar Harbor but was unable to locate the offending vehicle.

Officer J. Cake summonsed Prateek Kanojiya, 27, of Atlanta, Georgia, for alleged criminal speeding (30 mph or more over the posted speed limit) in Mount Desert.
A Mount Desert resident reported some property damage to the Mount Desert Police Department.
Ria Saunders, 34, of Vassalboro, was driving a 2023 Chevy Bolt EV on Route 3 in Bar Harbor when a deer ran into the roadway and was allegedly struck by Saunders’ vehicle. There was no personal injury reported. The electric vehicle became disabled due to the collision and had to be towed from the scene.
Officer T. Cake is investigating a report of harassment that allegedly occurred in Bar Harbor.
Someone reported losing a tire from their boat trailer in the area of Sound Drive in Mount Desert but no such tire could be located by officers.
Sgt. Dickens responded to a parking complaint on Roberts Avenue in Bar Harbor. The complaint involved a vehicle that was parked facing the wrong way on a one-way street. He took no action after determining that the parked vehicle could get safely turned around.
Following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, Officer Caleb Mora summonsed Taylor Gilbert, 24, of Hancock, for alleged criminal speed and alleged failure to register a motor vehicle.
Officer Burne conducted an agency assist in Bar Harbor.
Officer Burne responded to a report of an intoxicated person in Bar Harbor but could not locate the person.
Officer Burne assisted someone in Bar Harbor with a civil issue.
Officer Stanwood issued a summons for an alleged liquor license violation to Leary’s Landing in Bar Harbor.

Officer Stanwood had a vehicle towed from the side of a roadway in Bar Harbor because it was a potential hazard to other motorists.
Following a motor vehicle stop in Bar Harbor, Officer Stanwood arrested Yura Kim, 24, of Trenton, for alleged operating under the influence.
Lt. Kevin Edgecomb drove the lead vehicle in the Sea of Blue Walk and 5k road race in Mount Desert.
Lt. Edgecomb and Officer Mora responded to a Bar Harbor residence for a report of a man looking in windows and taking pictures at that residence. After making contact with the man, who said that he had recently purchased the house, the officers discovered that this was not true. They did so by making contact with the true current owners. After further investigation, it was determined that the man was in fact the victim of a scam himself.
A motor vehicle complaint was made in Mount Desert. No officers were in position to locate the suspect vehicle and the complaint was forwarded to the next jurisdiction.
A man reported being punched in the neck by another man in Bar Harbor. The victim did not wish to press charges, but the victim’s employer asked that the suspect be issued a trespass notice not to return.
Officer Torrey located a dog that was roaming at large in Mount Desert and returned it to its owner.
Officer Formby responded to a report of a family fight in Bar Harbor. No arrests were made but the parties were separated for the night.

Following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, Joseph Schmitt, 51, of Quimby, Massachusetts, was arrested by Officer Formby for alleged operating under the influence.
Someone called the Bar Harbor Police Department regarding a civil matter.
A Bar Harbor business reported property damage that was caused by a vehicle. The business owner was familiar with the vehicle and driver and decided to handle the issue civilly rather than going through the police department.
Lt. Edgecomb spoke with a Seal Harbor resident regarding a trespass issue. The issue is under investigation.
Sgt. Jerrod Hardy arrested Jordan R. Doolan, 30, of Bar Harbor, for alleged theft and alleged violation of conditions of release in Bar Harbor. Doolan was transported to the Hancock County Jail.
Officer Torrey assisted the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office with arresting a woman.
Officer Liam Harrington took a report of a dog bite that occurred in Mount Desert.
Officer Harrington spoke with a Bar Harbor resident about some concerns the resident had. No further information or disposition was given.
Officer Stanwood conducted a bail check on someone who is currently on conditions of release in Bar Harbor.

Lt. Franklin Burke responded to a business alarm which turned out to be a false alarm.
Officer James Kamorski responded to a complaint of a dog stuck in a tree but upon arrival learned that the dog was out of the tree and was okay.
Following a traffic stop for speeding, Officer Kamorski issued the unidentified driver a summons for alleged operating without a license.

Lt. Burke was responding to an alarm at a local business, but the alarm was cancelled before he arrived.
Chief John Hall handled an alarm at a local business and upon arrival, found out that it was triggered accidentally.
Officer Kamorski and Officer Ryan Blakeney responded to an open basement door at an apartment complex that was not supposed to be open, made sure that nobody was in the basement. He reported noticing nothing out of the ordinary.

Officer Blakeney responded to a residential alarm. The residence appeared to have some possible wind damage but appeared secure.
Officers Blakeney and Kamorski responded to a complaint of a person sleeping in a van in a private driveway. The officers made contact with the person and advised them not to trespass in the driveway and that camping in vehicles is not allowed in public spaces.

Lt. Burke responded to a 911 call in the area of the Seawall Road and determined that it was caused by a broken phone which was shut off until the phone is repaired.
Lt. Burke tried to locate a motorcycle that had been reported as traveling at a high rate of speed but could not locate it.
Lt. Burke fingerprinted someone for employment purposes.
Lt. Burke received a report of a vehicle that was coming into town too fast, but he could not locate the suspect vehicle.
The Southwest Harbor Police Department received a crash detection notification from an Apple device. The device had been lost by a resident and has not yet been located.
Lt. Burke responded to a complaint of a drone flying over a piece of property but determined that no crime had been committed.

Remains of Alex Jackson Located in New Hampshire
WINDHAM—On Sunday, May 14, 2023, the Windham Police Department investigated a report of a missing person from their town. The family of 34-year-old Alex Jackson, of Windham, reported him missing with no contact since Friday, May 12, 2023, which was atypical behavior for him. Investigators with the Maine State Police, Windham Police Department, Lewiston Police Department, Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, and the New Hampshire State Police worked to develop leads over the following ten months.
On Friday, March 29, 2024, an arrest warrant was obtained for 30-year-old Joseph Chute, of Leeds, on the charge of murder. Chute was arrested Friday evening without incident and transported to the Androscoggin County Jail where he is being held without bail. The body of Jackson has not been recovered at this time. Chute will make his initial appearance in Androscoggin County Superior Court on Monday, April 1, 2024.
On Friday, April 19, 2024, the Maine State Police with assistance from the Windham Police Department, Maine Warden Service, New Hampshire State Police, and New Hampshire Fish and Wildlife Department conducted a search in the area of Stark, New Hampshire. During this search, human remains were located and transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Concord, New Hampshire. Over the weekend investigators worked to process the scene where the remains were discovered and worked with the medical examiner’s office to make an identification.
The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Alex Jackson, of Windham. The cause and manner of his death are not being released at this time. Additional information will be released when it’s appropriate to do so. The Maine State Police would like to thank the Windham Police Department, Maine Warden Service, New Hampshire State Police, and New Hampshire Fish and Wildlife Department for their assistance in the recovery of Alex Jackson.
Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating Two Separate Fires in Mount Desert
MOUNT DESERT—On Monday, April 22, 2024, local fire departments responded to two incendiary fires at two separate residential properties located off Stanley Mountain Road in the town of Mount Desert. The Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scenes to investigate. 58-year-old Glenn P. Stanley, of Mount Desert was charged with two counts of arson in connection with the two fires at the separate residential properties. No one was home at either residence at the time. Stanley was transported to the Hancock County Jail.
The Fire Marshal’s office was assisted by the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Department, Acadia National Park Rangers, and the Mount Desert Fire Department. Also helping on scene were Southwest Harbor, Tremont, Trenton, and Ellsworth Fire Departments.
MDEA and Portland Police Department Arrest Portland Man on Drug Trafficking Charges
PORTLAND—The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Portland Police Department announce the arrest of a Portland man for aggravated drug trafficking charges and the seizure of a significant amount of illegal drugs and a loaded firearm.
Arrested was Charles Aboda 27, of Portland, for arrest warrants charging, one count of unlawful aggravated trafficking in schedule drugs, class A, fentanyl and one count of unlawful trafficking in schedule drugs, class B, cocaine.
For the past three months, MDEA agents from the Cumberland District Task Force and officers from the Portland Police Department’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) investigated the illegal trafficking of illegal drugs by Aboda. Information was received that Aboda was selling large quantities of illegal drugs as well as making smaller, street level sales to local drug users. During the investigation, agents conducted undercover purchases of illegal drugs directly from Aboda, to include fentanyl.
On Tuesday afternoon, April 23, 2024, agents and CRU officers arrested Aboda without incident in the Bay Side area of Portland on the drug trafficking warrants listed above. At the time of his arrest agents seized approximately three ounces of fentanyl, and cocaine, as well as $1000 in suspected drug proceeds.
Aboda was transported to the Cumberland County Jail by Portland police. Bail was set on the warrants at $15,000 cash.
Subsequent to Abodas’ arrest, agents executed a search warrant at a residence in the West End area of Portland related to the three-month investigation. The search of the residence resulted in the seizure of approximately 2 ounces of fentanyl, cocaine, crack cocaine, and methamphetamine, as well as a loaded handgun and approximately $10,000 in suspected drug proceeds.
The investigation is continuing, additional charges will be reviewed by the State’s Attorney General’s Office against Aboda.
Assisting in this investigation, arrest and search warrant, were officers and agents from the Portland Police Department and FBI Safe Streets Task Force.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Maine State Police and Caribou Police Investigate Discovery of Body Near Aroostook River
CARIBOU—The Maine State Police and Caribou Police Department are investigating the discovery of a body located on the bank of the Aroostook River between the dam and Fort Street at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. The deceased male will be transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy will be performed to determine positive identification and cause and manner of death. The Maine State Police and Caribou Police Department were assisted on scene by the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office and Caribou Fire and Rescue.
The body located on the banks of the Aroostook River in Caribou on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, has been identified by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner as 39-year-old Erik Foote, of Washburn. The cause and manner of death are pending at this time.
MDEA Investigation Leads to Two Arrests in Waldoboro
WALDOBORO—The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency announces the arrest of two people during the execution of a search warrant at a residence on Finntown Road, in Waldoboro, following a months-long investigation into illegal drug trafficking from the residence. Fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, a loaded handgun, and suspected drug proceeds were seized during the search.
Arrested was Hollis Owens, 50, of Mattapan, Massachusetts, on three counts of aggravated trafficking schedule W drugs class A. Bail was set at $25,000. Owens is currently being held at Two Bridges Jail in Wiscassett. Also arrested was Shawn Brewer, 42. of Waldoboro, on one count of aggravated trafficking schedule W drugs, class A. Bail was set at $10,000. Brewer is currently being held at Two Bridges Jail in Wiscassett.
During the months of March and April, agents from the Mid-Coast District Task Force began an investigation into illegal drug trafficking conducted by Owens. Owens was residing at the residence of Shawn Brewer on Finntown Road, in Waldoboro, where Agents conducted undercover purchases of illegal narcotics from Owens and Brewer.
After obtaining a search warrant for the residence, agents, with the assistance of the Maine State Police Tactical Team, Waldoboro Police Department, Waldoboro EMS, and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office executed the search warrant on Thursday, April 24, 2024. During the search of the residence agents located $7,236 in suspected drug proceeds, some of which was recorded buy money, a loaded handgun, 13.9g of fentanyl, 11.5g methamphetamine, and 2g cocaine base. Owens and Brewer attempted to destroy the narcotics by flushing them in the toilet. Agents were able to recover the narcotics from the sewer drain at the residence.
Owens and Brewer are scheduled to appear in Lincoln County court on Friday, April 26, 2024, where more charges may be brought.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Assisting MDEA in this investigation were representatives from Waldoboro Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, and Town of Waldoboro Ambulance Service.

Maine State Police Investigating Turnpike Fatality in Wells
WELLS—On Friday, April 26, 2024, at approximately 8:41 a.m., the Maine State Police responded to mile 20 southbound on the Turnpike in Wells for a multiple-vehicle crash involving possible rollovers. Upon investigation, it was determined a black Toyota Prius operated by 23-year-old Oguzhan Cildir, of Brighton, Massachusetts struck a silver Toyota Sienna minivan and a white Toyota Tacoma pickup.
The white Toyota pickup reportedly rolled over several times. The driver of the pickup, 53-year-old Gloria Cascio of Albion, Maine, was pronounced deceased on scene. The passenger in the pickup, 60-year-old Vincent Cascio, of Albion, was transported via Lifeflight to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries.
The driver of the Toyota minivan, 51-year-old Troy Perrault, of Old Orchard Beach, sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the Prius, Cildir, was transported by ambulance to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the fourth vehicle involved in the crash, a gray Chevy Impala could not avoid the crash. The driver was not injured. The southbound lanes of the Turnpike were shut down for an extended period and have since re-opened. Kennebunk Fire and Rescue, Wells Fire and Rescue, and the Maine Turnpike Authority assisted on scene.
Fire Marshal’s Office Makes Arrest in Arson Fire in Dresden
DRESDEN—On Thursday, April 25, 2024, at approximately 7:20 a.m., a vehicle fire was discovered off the Alexander Road in Dresden. The Fire Marshal’s Office responded to investigate the fire which was intentionally set. The investigation led to the arrest of 28-year-old Stephanie Lamoreau who is unhoused. She was arrested today on Warren Avenue on charges of arson, aggravated criminal mischief, and unauthorized use of property.
Lamoreau took a vehicle from an associate of hers without that person’s permission. After her arrest, Lamoreau was transported to Two Bridges Jail in Wiscasset. Bail was set at $5,000.00 cash. The Fire Marshal’s Office was assisted throughout the investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and the Gardiner Police Department.
