MOUNT DESERT—The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office and multiple police and fire agencies responded to alleged arsons Monday at two Stanley Mountain Road homes in Mount Desert. The severely damaged home was located approximately .5 miles down the narrow road. The road’s features and the incident led to multiple vehicles staging at the Route 198 end of the dead end road. Another home on the road, was also involved, but was relatively undamaged.
Police took Glenn P. Stanley, 58, of Mount Desert Island, into custody and to Hancock County Jail, after finding him at a location on the road, Monday afternoon after a brief search. Police also located his vehicle on that same road.
Though firefighters contained the blaze after approximately 2.5 hours, investigators stayed on scene until evening.
The initial dispatches for the call, shortly after 2 p.m., said that a woman saw through a home security camera that there was a man on the front porch of one of her residences on Stanley Mountain Road. He allegedly had a gas tank and a lighter. According to the scanner, the home owner could see the flame of the lighter, but the flame did not catch. This was not the same residence that burned extensively. Our original story is here.
According to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson, Shannon Moss, Stanley has been charged with arson for both homes.
