Man Reportedly Hits Coping Stone, Drives 2.5 Miles Without Wheel, Calls Tow Truck 10 Hours Later
The Bar Harbor Story is generously sponsored by Swan Agency Real Estate.
MOUNT DESERT—According to the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Department weekly press release and Officer Kevin Edgcomb’s response to clarifying questions, on June 6, at approximately 6 a.m., Acadia Towing called the Mount Desert Police Department and reported that someone had just requested a tow truck for a pickup truck.
When Officer Judson Cake arrived in the area and after some investigation, he determined that Seamus Keefe, 33, of Hobe Sound, FL, was driving a 2023 Dodge Ram on Sargeant Drive in Mount Desert when he allegedly drove the truck off the roadway and struck some coping stones.
Keefe then reportedly continued to drive the truck an additional 2.5 miles without one wheel, damaging the roadway.
Keefe never reported the crash to the police department but called Acadia Towing 10 hours after the crash apparently took place. According to Officer Edgecomb, the police department only knew about the crash because of Acadia Towing’s phone call to the police department. Keefe was summoned for alleged failure to give notice of accident by quickest means and alleged criminal mischief for the damage to the roadway.
There were no reported injuries, and the truck suffered major damage to both passenger side tires and the undercarriage.
