March Calls for Solidarity and Ceasefire
About 200 Assemble on Bar Harbor Village Green
BAR HARBOR—Just over 200 people peacefully marched from the College of the Atlantic to Bar Harbor’s Village Green this afternoon to show solidarity with the Palestinian people
Students from the College of the Atlantic organized the event, which included students, professors, and those not affiliated with the college. The march went from Eden Street (Route 3) up West Street, Holland Street, Cottage Street, and Rodick Street before ending at the Village Green where speakers spoke of divestiture of the college’s assets from Israel as well as solidarity with Palestinians. Speakers quoted poetry, including some by Palestinian poet and spoken word artist Rafeef Ziadah, called for awareness and empathy, to hold space for Palestine and its people, as well as singing a Back Street Boys song’s whose lyrics were changed for a call for a cease fire.
“To call for a free Palestine,” one speaker said, “is to call for a free Turtle Island.”
Speakers also mentioned the Nekba (Nakba), which was the mass expulsion of Palestinians from what is now Israel from 1947-1949.
A press release from the students involved stated, “On this anniversary students of the COA will go on strike from their work, meetings, and classes, marching through the streets of Bar Harbor to stand in solidarity with Palestine and stand against the ongoing ethnic cleansing and genocide of the Palestinian people.”
The march was organized by the Human Ecologists for the Liberation of Palestine (HELP), a student club at College of the Atlantic (COA). HELP is a student initiative that seeks to spread awareness and engage in discussions regarding the injustice the Palestinian people face today.
A fundraising fair follows the event and is also open to the public. Students had previously been encamped on the campus and expressed their desires to the college’s administration. This event, however, was also meant to involve the wider community.

If you are a CD2 voter, then please contact Rep. Jared Golden. Golden has always made
'Vote Blue No Matter Who' a challenge. But Golden has also kept the CD2 seat in the Democratic column - and the only Democrat to do so in a district which has gone big for Trump, twice. With winning a Democratic majority in the House being a top priority, we need to reelect Golden. (Must I say, helping elect the Republican would be worse on every issue?)
That said, Golden's stance on offensive military aid to the Netanyahu regime is pure AIPAC. Golden even opposes Pres. Biden's pause on offensive aid (including 2000 pound bombs which both our military and the Israeli military say are inappropriate to the situation.) And Golden chooses not to believe even our State Department and Department of Defense critical analyses of IDF actions.
I have been complaining about support for the Netanyahu regimes for decades. I have been complaining to Golden's office and campaign about his AIPAC boilerplate statements on Gaza. It was not until this week that I heard on NPR that Golden gets a lot of money from AIPAC. So please join me in trying to educate Rep. Jared Golden. Because we do have to reelect him.

I suggest checking out the Haaretz website and sending Golden information right from Israel, from those pushing back against the Netanyahu regime.

I cannot agree at all with the pro-Palestinian marchers. The people of Palestine elected Hamas as their leaders in 2007; Hamas’ only goal is the genocide of the Jewish people and the destruction of Israel. Shame on you all.
