Bar Harbor needs year round affordable residential housing priced to the wage scale of the full range of essential workers. Any permits for new hotel-type commercial enterprises must come with the requirement to build a number of affordable year round residential units equal to or exceeding the proposed commercial units. It must also come with the requirement to provide on-site housing for seasonal workers.
The poor-mouthing of rapacious real estate developers is unseemly, their projects are unsustainable.
I am surprised at the stance of Park Superintendent Schneider. The park is already past peak capacity and struggling to find solutions for excessive tourism. Schneider doesn't seem to have considered that more hotel rooms will exacerbate the problems the park administration has yet to solve.
I lived at that location for a year and a half. The driveway is not only dangerous, but treacherous. It would be interesting to hear more about how they are going to redesign the driveway to meet sight requirements.

Or they won't bother.
Their 'lawful but awful B&B' on Cottage St has odd sharp bits sticking out past the property line and over the side walk - injuries asking to happen. There should requirements for set backs.
No Cruise Ships allowed. Too many people too much pollution but another "Inn" at one of the busiest intersections in town is ok. That corner is a blind corner and just what we need are more autos coming and leaving directly into that intersection. Hey, let's put up a new traffic signal light there and really cause more traffic jams and accidents. Another traffic signal at West and Eden Streets will also be needed if this "Inn" were to be built. Now, about the additional pollution from more autos sitting there waiting for lights and traffic to move them along.........
Hi, Robert and Admin. This is Carrie from the Bar Harbor Story. Someone just sent us a message assuming that we were the Admin user responding to this message. We are not. Admin is a Substack user and not an administrator of the Substack site or our site. And they are welcome to make comments just like everyone else and all the other users who don't go by their own name. :) I just wanted to clear that up publicly. I hope you both have a great day!
Oops, sorry. I had to create this Substack account to correct the Quietside Journal's misstatements because Lincoln blocked my regular one. I am Stephen, the owner of this subject property, not Carrie, the author of this blog.
Incorrect. This proposal is allowed under either the current lodging rules OR the proposed rules on the upcoming ballot. The upcoming ballot initiative, if successful, eliminates those B&B uses.

The configuration of that intersection and the existing problem of congestion and blind curve should, alone, keep this from being approved.

Skirting the process by calling this a B and B. Time to update definitions.

No worries, Stephen! Thank you for clarifying for people though. I appreciate it a lot.
