POLICE LOG: Truck Driver Changes Flat Tire of Man Who Hit His Truck
BAR HARBOR—On Monday, February 26, Stephen Mitchell, 76, of Bar Harbor was driving a 2021 GMC Canyon at Ells Pier in Bar Harbor and was attempting to go around a 2013 Peterbilt 386 that was being operated by Douglas Sargent, 46, of Hancock.
Mitchell allegedly struck the Peterbilt with his vehicle which caused damage to the front right fender and tire of his vehicle. There was no reported personal injury, and Sargent changed Mitchell’s flat tire for him.
The following incidents occurred in Bar Harbor and Mount Desert last week according to the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Department police logs, which is publicly released information.

Officer Elias Burne responded to a report of criminal mischief in Bar Harbor but determined that nothing was damaged.

Anna Vollmer, 28, of Mount Desert was driving a 2019 GMC Acadia north on Route 3 in the merge area by Steamboat Landing in Bar Harbor when a truck pulling a utility trailer passed her and the trailer allegedly struck the side of her vehicle. Vollmer’s vehicle sustained only a small scratch to the passenger’s side. There was no reported personal injury. The truck and driver did not stop and were never identified.
Officer Chris Dickens handled a repeat offender dog-at-large complaint in Bar Harbor and spoke with the owner of the dog.

Dale Carter, no age given, of Sullivan, Maine, was driving a 2022 bus and was stopped at the intersection of Ledgelawn Avenue and Mount Desert Street in Bar Harbor. Elise Frank, no age given, was driving a 2019 Audi and was stopped at the intersection of Roberts Avenue and Mount Desert Street, which is diagonally across from Ledgelawn Avenue. Both drivers allegedly attempted to make left-hand turns at the same time and collided. There was no reported personal injury. The Audi sustained minor damage to the rear driver’s side and the bus sustained minor damage to the center of the driver’s side.

Maine State Police Investigating Deaths in Milford
On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in Milford for a well-being check. Upon arrival, two deceased individuals were discovered and the deaths are considered suspicious. The deceased individuals were transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where autopsies will be performed to determine manner and cause of death. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North was called to assist the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation which is ongoing. At this time, law enforcement does not believe there to be an ongoing threat to the public. Additional information will be provided at a later time.
On Thursday, February 29, 2024, the Office of Chief Medical Examiner has determined the manner of death in both cases as suicide. Given the manner of deaths, the identities of the deceased will not be released.
