"Soaked Feet and Stunning Shots: ‘View Finders’ Explores Acadia’s Beauty"
Acadia in the Spotlight: Friends of Acadia Hosts Virtual Screening of 'View Finders' Episode
BAR HARBOR—On Monday, over 30 people joined Friends of Acadia for a special virtual screening of View Finders, a photography adventure show that turned its lens on the breathtaking beauty of Acadia National Park.
The episode captured the park’s rugged coastlines, misty mornings, and quiet ponds — all while co-creator Chris Greer shared behind-the-scenes stories and photography tips with viewers.
The views within Acadia National Park are incredible and View Finders, a show for photographers and those who love breathtaking images of nature focused one of its season three episodes on Acadia National Park.
Friends of Acadia’s special screening of the Acadia episode occurred via Zoom and professor and photographer Chris Greer joined those watching, kindly and graciously answering questions and giving ways for people to contact him in the future.
“The only national park in the Northeast,” the episode begins before Greer and Paul Daniel of the View Finders bring viewers to their images of Acadia National Park.
The episode features the haunting coast, the serene freshwater ponds, the pines, and the small mountains of Acadia National Park.
Amanda Pollock, the park’s public affairs officer, makes an appearance to help detail the park, but the shows focus and poignancy comes from the images, the captures of light, and the tiny snippets of the men interacting with the environment.
“All right, so I’m putting myself in a little bit of harm’s way here. In fact, I’ve already gotten my—ohhh—my foot soaked and my gear a little wet with salt water. Not good,” Greer says into the screen.
A moment later, he was scooping up his gear to save it from another wave.
The iconic nature of the spot on the shore in the early morning with the tide coming in was hard to resist.
“It is stunningly beautiful,” Greer says.
But also?
“My foot is soaked.”
A montage of shots shows the film speed, the aperture and lens used in glorious shot after glorious shot. So, there’s practical knowledge within all that beauty.
With bits of dialogue like “so, of course I’ve got my circular polarizer on there and then also I have my ND6,” the show is also a win for photography lovers. It focuses on adventure, education, and photography.
“There’s so many compositions. Everywhere I look is a new shot,” he says in the show, grabbing multiple portfolio shots in the morning, which he calls “ultra rare.”
Acadia is ultra-rare. Iconic. Small. Full of big vistas and tiny beauty.
“Conservation is really at the core of what we’re trying to do here at Acadia,” Pollock says.
The film highlights what the park and FOA is trying to preserve.
It chronicles Greer and Daniel’s search for locations and beauty. It’s visual. It’s melodic. It’s unscripted narrative is an upbeat and gorgeous testament to both the places they visit and the men who showcase the beauty.
