LINE DANCING AT ART WAVES
No partner? No problem!
Learn new dance steps while having fun in a group setting. This class is appropriate for all levels. Please carry in a dedicated pair of dance shoes (clean, non-marking soles); no outdoor shoes are allowed into the studio. Your instructor: David Lamon is an experienced teacher and choreographer who has studied and taught a wide variety of dance forms and movement techniques. Whether he is teaching jazz, modern, improv, or ballroom, Davidโs classes are fun, engaging, and demonstrate a thoughtful attention to the foundations of each dance. Whatever the form, David believes that dance is a doorway to the synchronistic creativity of being in the moment.

BALL DANCING AT ART WAVES
This class will focus primarily on Rhumba and Salsa patterns for social dance settings at the beginner/intermediate levels.
Weโll cover basics and more complex dance patterns and partnering skills. Focus is on having fun and feeling more confident on the dance floor. Must register with a partner. Please carry in a dedicated pair of dance shoes (clean, non-marking soles); no outdoor shoes are allowed into the studio to protect the floor. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8
Artist Laure Drogoul to discuss work
BAR HARBOR โ Artist, olfactory spelunker, and cobbler of situations, Laure Drogoul explores her installations and performances with plastics, fashion, and other post-consumer goods at an artistโs talk at College of the Atlantic on Friday, Nov. 8. The talk, which is free and open to the public, takes place in McCormick Lecture Hall beginning at 4:10 p.m.
Drogoul, who lives in Baltimore, Maryland, crafts installations and performances that embrace play, humor, and horror to invite the viewer in as an active participant. Drogoulโs works explore cultural and environmental phenomena with the hope of fostering a deeper understanding of our shared world. Her work often features materials that are forever part of our environment, such as dry-cleaning bags.ย
Most recently Drogoul made sculptural work at The Creative Residency at TerraCycle, an organization whose mission is to eliminate the idea of waste. This residency is a trade-based program providing areas for art creation, materials for upcycling, and exhibition space for regional artists in exchange for work on projects.
Drogoul exhibits widely, including at The International House of Japan, Washington Project for the Arts, The Walters Art Museum, Baltimore Museum of Art, Wave Hill Public Garden and Cultural Center, SPRING/BREAK Art Show, as well as many street corners, alleys, and fallow urban spaces. She has received Maryland State Arts Council Independent Artist Awards, the Franklin Furnace FUND for Performance Art, was a recipient of a USโJapan Creative Artist Fellowship, and was honored with Baltimoreโs Janet and Walter Sondheim Art Prize. Acadia Artist-in-Residence To Teach Free Nature Poetry Workshop
NORTHEAST HARBORโ On Saturday, November 9, at 11:00 a.m. the Northeast Harbor Library will host a free writing workshop led by current Acadia National Park Artist-in-Residence Mike Bove.
Maine boasts a rich poetic tradition celebrating the natural landscape. This two-hour workshop will include an interactive reading activity featuring a selection of Maine-based nature poems, followed by a guided writing activity after a short break. Participants are asked to bring a small natural object or landscape photograph for inspiration. Register atย nehlibrary.org/eventsย or by calling 207-276-3333.
Mike Bove is the award-winning author of four books of poetry and a 2024 Artist-in-Residence at Acadia National Park. He is Professor of English at Southern Maine Community College, and lives in Portland where he was born and raised.
PRAYER SHAWL MISSION GROUP
Welcoming all knitters and would be knittersโฆand crocheters!ย The Welcome and Care Team at the Bar Harbor Congregational Church UCC is hosting a weekly Prayer Shawl Mission Group every Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon at the Bar Harbor Congregational Church UCC. The intention of the group is to create a sense of community and a flow of Prayer Shawls for distribution to those in need of comfort due to illness, loneliness, or loss. Supplies and instruction will be provided to those with skills for knitting and/or crocheting and for those with a desire to learn.
There are no costs to the participants.

Blue Star Memorial Marker Veterans Day Ceremony
BAR HARBORโThe Bar Harbor Garden Club (BHGC) is holding its annual Blue Star Memorial Marker Ceremony on Veterans Day, November 11, 2024, at 11 a.m., Route 3, Bar Harbor. The public is invited to honor Americaโs veterans for their patriotism and pay tribute to our service men and women.
Please join the BHGC at the Blue Star Memorial Marker to offer hope and healing through the remembrance of our living and fallen heroes. The program includes special readings, remarks from local veterans and an opportunity to share your personal memories. The BHGCโs Blue Star Memorial Marker was originally erected in 1972 as a tribute and an expression of thanks, respect and remembrance, to all men and women who had served, were serving, or would serve in the armed forces of the United States.
Garden Clubs nationwide believe in a living memorial, preferring to help beautify and preserve the country these men and women had fought for, rather than build stone monuments in their honor. Since World War I, a Blue Star Banner displayed in the window of a home told others that a family member was serving in the Armed Forces. Based on this legacy, the Blue Star Memorial Program began in 1944 with the planting of Dogwood trees as a living memorial to Veterans of World War II. ย
The Bar Harbor Garden Club is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Maine, New England Garden Clubs, and National Garden Clubs.

ASC Racial Justice Book Group
Are you interested in joining us? We are open to new members who want to share in the reading and the hard work that ensues as we examine the underpinnings of systemic racism and its effects on society and on each of us individually, in the ultimate hope thatย our studies can work toward change.
We have been meeting once a month on the secondย Tuesday of the month from 10:30- 12:15.
We started with the basic readings ofย How to Be an Antiracistย by Ibram X. Kendi andย The Sum of Usย by Heather McGhee.ย We then spent many months delving deeply intoย The 1619 Projectย edited by Nikole Hannah-Jones.
Since then, weโve read some James Baldwin, Colon Whitehead, Zora Neale Hurston, Eddie S. Glaude, Jr., Clint Smith and many others. We look forward in the next few months to reading some James McBride and Bryan Stevenson.ย We also share articles of interest that deal with the issues weโre facing.

Flies & Lies
BAR HARBORโDowneast Trout Unlimited is excited to announce the โFlies & Liesโ fly-tying group.
Flies & Lies is open to anyone interested in the art of fly tying and the sport of fly fishing. This group will share information about fly-tying techniques and provide teaching opportunities for the fly-tying community. The group will meet on Sundays twice per month from October to April to promote fly fishing and conservation.ย
Location: 96 Cottage Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609, Machias Savings Bank, Community Room.
