TRENTON—Shortly before midnight, Monday, July 7, Trenton firefighters put out a fire inside a large RV.
No humans or pets were injured in the fire that occurred at the Narrows Too Campground at 1150 Bar Harbor Road.
According to Trenton Fire Chief Steve Heckman, who put out a press release, “Dispatch confirmed visible smoke and started our automatic mutual aid response.”
Firefighters spotted “moderately heavy” smoke coming out of the large motorhome.
They quickly determined that all the pets and humans were out of the motor home, which had working and activated smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Once inside, firefighters found the fire in a wall cavity that was close to the motor home’s washer and dryer unit.
They accessed the wall, removed the washer and dryer, and found the fire’s source was beneath the appliances and by the hot water heater.
“Crews found heavy charring, melted electrical insulation, and fire damage,” Heckman said. “The fire was determined to have originated in the area of an electrical junction and the area involved was extinguished.”
The firefighters recommended that the motorhome stay de-energized until an electrician could determine how much electrical damage occurred.
The owners found another place to stay and Trenton business owners and workers like Billy O’Sullivan of Open Hearth and Isleview Motel and Cottages quickly offered rooms if they had not.
Firefighters left the scene by 1 a.m.

In June, the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department responded to calls that included: one structure fire, three EMS assists, three motor vehicle accidents, two smoke/odor investigations, one power line issue, and two alarms activations.
The fire department thanked departments from Ellsworth, Lamoine, and Hancock who also responded as well as Norther Light Ambulance and Versant Power.
