MOUNT DESERT—According to the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Department’s weekly press release, on April 22, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Officer Caleb Mora responded to a complaint of a residential burglary in Mount Desert that had occurred the day prior.
Through investigation, Officer Mora was able to identify two juvenile boys from Southwest Harbor as the perpetrators.
Lt. Kevin Edgecomb stated that the juveniles made entry into the house but did not remove anything from the residence. According to the press release, the victim declined to pursue any criminal charges against the juveniles.
The juveniles’ parents were made aware of the situation, Lt. Edgecomb said.

Someone in Mount Desert reported some fraud to Officer Ted Cake who is investigating the complaint.
Officer Justin Burnett responded to a motor vehicle complaint in Bar Harbor, located the vehicle that was the subject of the complaint, but could not detect any issues.
Officer Zack Kline responded to a noise complaint in Bar Harbor, spoke with someone at the party and the group quieted down for the evening.

Officer Burnett took a motor vehicle compliant in Bar Harbor in which “no criminal conduct occurred.”
Officer Mora issued a trespass warning to a Mount Desert resident on behalf of a Mount Desert business.
Officer Kaleb Payson responded to a report of a disorderly situation in Bar Harbor and warned the people involved for disorderly conduct.

Sgt. Soren Sundberg performed taxi inspections in Bar Harbor.
MHL Tozier spoke with a Bar Harbor resident about a civil issue.
Sgt. Brundrett responded to a motor vehicle complaint on Route 3 in Bar Harbor in which the offending vehicle was alleged to have nearly struck a curb and guardrail. Sgt. Brundrett could not locate the vehicle.
Sgt. Chris Dickens and Sgt. Jerrod Hardy responded to a report of debris in the roadway on Route 102 in the area of Echo Lake. They removed a cardboard box from the roadway.
Officer Nathan Formby performed a requested well-being check in Bar Harbor. The person being checked on was subsequently taken into protective custody and transported to the hospital.

An officer is investigating a reported theft from a Mount Desert business.
Officer Shelby O’Neil took a report of harassment in Mount Desert but after investigating, deemed that no harassment had occurred.
After receiving an emergency 911 text in Mount Desert, Officer O’Neil determined that it was accidental and no emergency occurred.
Sgt. Dickens responded to a motor vehicle complaint on Route 3 in Bar Harbor and could not locate the suspect vehicle.
Officer Formby gave someone a ride to their residence in Bar Harbor from the hospital.
Sgt. Dickens documented a reported dispute between neighbors in Bar Harbor.

Someone in Bar Harbor reported an incident of fraud to Officer O’Neil. No money was lost.
Officer T. Cake stood by at a Bar Harbor residence while someone gathered some belongings.
Someone reported a man taking pictures of teenagers with a cellphone on West Street in Bar Harbor. The man was described as having a white beard and wearing jeans and a dark green or blue jacket. Officer O’Neil and other officers responded to the area and could not locate the man. There were not any additional reports of this man or behavior.
Officers assisted the Bar Harbor Fire Department, Mount Desert Fire Department, and Acadia National Park firefighters with a grass fire on Route 3 in Bar Harbor.
Officer O’Neil came across a large truck that was blocking a travel lane on Main Street in Bar Harbor. Officer O’Neil contacted the truck’s driver and had them move the truck.
Officer Kline received a call about a missing person in Bar Harbor and before he could respond, the caller called back and said that the person had been located and was all set.
Following a traffic stop in Mount Desert, Officer Payson performed a bail compliance check on a man and he was found to be in compliance.

Cesar Peralta, 42, of Trenton, was driving a 2016 Ford Focus west on the Gilbert Farm Road in Bar Harbor when he allegedly failed to maintain his lane and went off the right side of the road. The crash caused disabling damage to the front and undercarriage of the vehicle which had to be towed. There were no reported injuries. Peralta was arrested by Officer Burnett for alleged operating under the influence and charged with alleged failure to notify law enforcement of a property damage accident by quickest means. Peralta was transported to the Hancock County Jail.

Officer Burnett arrested Cory Diehl, no age given, of Ellsworth, in Bar Harbor for alleged domestic violence assault. Diehl was transported to the Hancock County Jail.

Officer Elias Burne began to investigate a reported assault that occurred in November of 2024.
Someone in Bar Harbor reported some information to Officer O’Neil.
Officer O’Neil responded to a report of a dog in a vehicle at the YMCA parking lot in Bar Harbor. The vehicle was gone upon Officer O’Neil’s arrival.
Officer O’Neil responded to a report of a loose dog in Somesville but could not locate the dog.
Officer Burne and other officers responded to a medical emergency in Bar Harbor.
Officer Troy Stanwood responded to a medical call in Bar Harbor.
Following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, Sophia Watras, 21, of Bar Harbor, was arrested by Officer Formby for alleged operating under the influence. Watras was transported to the Hancock County Jail.

A Tremont resident went into the Southwest Harbor Police Department to make a complaint regarding a cellphone tower near their residence. Officer Kristen Roulet investigated the complaint and determined that the pole in question was legally installed.
Sgt. Ryan Blakeney performed a requested well-being check on two Tremont residents and found them both to be okay.

Sgt. Blakeney took a report of an attempted scam from a Southwest Harbor resident.

Officer Roulet handled a complaint in Southwest Harbor regarding multiple juveniles form Southwest Harbor. Officer Roulet took care of the immediate complaint initially and then followed with each juvenile and their parents.
A Southwest Harbor father went to the police station to report that his teenage son was refusing to return home. Officer Graham spoke with the juvenile son and he agreed to return home with his father.
Officer Graham assisted the ambulance service on a medical call in Southwest Harbor.

Officer James Kamorski spoke with a Tremont resident about suspicious activity and was able to resolve the issue.
Officer Kamorski responded with the ambulance service to a medical call in Southwest Harbor due to the nature of the call but deemed that no crime had been committed. The person was transported to the hospital by the ambulance.

Maine State Police Arrest Man Following Firearm Incident in Benton
BENTON—On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m., troopers from the Maine State Police Central Field Troop responded to the area of Unity Road in Benton following multiple 911 calls reporting a man walking down the road and recklessly firing a pistol, including toward homes.
Troopers quickly located the individual and safely detained him without incident. The man, identified as 32-year-old Joseph Costa, who is currently unhoused, was found to be in possession of a 9mm semi-automatic handgun. Costa was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. He was later transported to the Kennebec County Jail and charged with 12 counts of aggravated reckless conduct with a firearm and one count of discharging a firearm near a dwelling.
Costa was denied bail and is awaiting his initial court appearance. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident. The investigation remains ongoing. MDEA Arrests Lewiston Man on Aggravated Drug Trafficking Charges
LEWISTON—For the past three months agents from the MDEA Western District Task Force investigated illegal drug trafficking throughout the Greater Lewiston-Auburn area by Lewiston resident, Sami-Luqman Muhammad, 38. During the three-month investigation agents were able to conduct undercover purchases of cocaine directly from Muhammad.
On Monday, April 14, 2025, MDEA agents executed two search warrants at Muhammad’s residence, 52 Webster Street, Lewiston and 260 Lisbon Street, Lewiston, The Garden of Via, a business owned by Muhammad and the location of several undercover drug purchases during the investigation.
As a result of the searches agents seized approximately 150 grams of cocaine and crack cocaine, 545 MDMA (Ecstasy) from Muhammad’s Lisbon Street business. Additional evidence of drug trafficking and $2,600 in suspected drug proceeds were seized from Muhammad’s Webster Street residence.
Muhammad was taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop after agents observed him leaving his Webster Street residence. Muhammad was charged with aggravated trafficking in schedule W drugs (cocaine) class A and aggravated trafficking in schedule W drugs (MDMA) class A. Muhammad was transported to the Androscoggin Jail where bail was set at $20,000 cash.
Additional charges are forthcoming related to the investigation. The aggravating factors of the charges is due to the amount of drugs seized.
Assisting in this investigation and search warrants were representatives from the Lewiston and Auburn Police Departments, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The MDEA stands committed to working with all federal, state, county, and local law enforcement partners in order to continue to identify and disrupt drug trafficking organizations who are attempting to distribute illicit drugs like fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine in the State of Maine.

Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating Deliberately Set Fire in Limington
LIMINGTON—The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire that destroyed a home and seriously injured one resident in Limington on Thursday morning April 24, 2025. Investigators with the FMO were requested to respond at approximately 9:37 a.m., to 41 Boothy Road to investigate the fire. One resident was injured and was transported by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland where he is serious condition. The home was a total loss.
Investigators have determined the fire was intentionally set. The investigation remains active and ongoing. No additional information is available at this time.
Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating Fatal Fire in Warren
WARREN—On Monday, April 28, 2025, at approximately 10:07 a.m., the Warren Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 259 Ridgewood Drive in Warren.
They were assisted by Warren Rescue, Waldoboro Fire Department, Union Fire Department, and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fatality within the residence.
The Warren Fire Chief requested the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office to respond and conduct an investigation. Investigators spent the day processing the scene and interviewing witnesses.
The deceased individual was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta to determine both the identity and the cause of death. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office.
